Dane here! Even politians ran in to save stuff.
Brian Mikkelsen who ran in and saved one of the iconic paintings, he is in charge of Dansk Erhverv and was the minister of Culture once.
He kept running in to save more, even got there late to the press meeting bc he was checking the building out after most of the fire was put out.
I have so much respect for him bc of this

Even if you've modernized somewhat, a building like Børsen was declared to be not just preservation-worthy, but obligatorily preserved. So you can't just replace walls with more modern materials or to install fire doors or sprinkler systems. It has to be preserved as close to original as is feasible.
Considering how many historic buildings exist and are renovated regularly, the fact that it doesn't happen more frequently is honestly what you should take note of instead.

Heritage professional here! Please STOP the conspiracies! Renovations make these buildings incredibly vulnerable. The scaffolding is also a hindrance to firefighters. I have and MA specializing in protecting preserving historical buildings. In most cases, these old buildings' roofs are made of wood with metal plating as roofing. If a fire ignites in the roof the metal acts like an oven, containing the heat and the fire spreads incredibly fast. I hate that some ignorant people are using our national tragedy as an excuse to be hateful.
