This was fantastic to see. Pete was right about developing a winning attitude in spring training. I thoroughly agree that a team must play winning baseball from the minute that spring training starts until the last out of the final game, no matter what. I greatly enjoyed seeing Pete's boyhood home, where he played baseball or football, and where he went to school. I enjoyed hearing from his parents and wife, Carolyn. His daughter looked a lot like him. This was just fun to see. Now that my boyhood hero has died, i hope he's able to be with his parents again. RIP Pete, your fans will always be behind you 110%.
@FlintyCobblestone I really appreciate that kind of sentiment. I was blessed to be born in 1960. My dad was a "shoe dog" at Cohen's shoes near Findlay Market. He'd take me to work with him when on a Saturday when there was a game. He'd get off at noon, we'd go eat at Izzy's and then to Crosley. There was nothing more thrilling to a boy born in Cincinnati than to walk up that passageway and then the sight of that GREEN GRASS hits you, and the smell of hot dogs, beer and cigars! Intoxicating! I'd marvel at Lee May, he'd one across over the left field fence and it would sometimes break a window in that building. When You were driving on what was then called the Mill Creek Expressway (I-75) and going to a night game, when you were going under the two tiered Western Hills Viaduct Crosley Field came quickly into view...like something out of Field of Dreams...those lights, the bleachers, everything. I'm sure that's how kids going to Great American Ball Park will someday feel when they are my age. Thanks for letting me reminisce, Flinty! GO REDS!!!
Neat stuff - I'd love to just drive Pete around the Westside of Cincinnati and hear the memories he has of different streets/stores - I guess this is as close as I'll get.
The GREATEST Red ever to put on the uniform. He set the standard so high no player will EVER have the hearts of the Cincinnati Reds fans like Peter Edward Rose.👏👏👏👏👏👏👍 FACT.
I like Rose cause he's always been the same kind of guy, never changed, he acts the same way in 2019 as he did back in 1969. On another note my gosh did he get lucky marrying the Asian girl he's married to now, I realize it helped being famous and having some money but still marrying Kiana Kim....as Charlie Sheen would say "duh ...winning"
This film was made in 1969, when the Reds still played at Crosley Field. 1969 was the first year of divisions in MLB history, and Atlanta won the first NL west title. David Bristol managed the Reds, but was replaced by Sparky Anderson after the '69 season. The New York Mets won the NL East. The AL West went to the Minnesota Twins, while Baltimore won the AL East. New York beat Baltimore in the WS.
Kind of funny how after the 1969 season the Reds fired manager Dave Bristol .......Wish there were more of these to watch from the 1960's -1970's. Learned a lot about Pete's childhood.
They revived the stripes in early 2000s but no longer where pinstripes. This season the Reds will feature 19 different uni's from the past to celebrate 150 years.
I think you are right - that looks like State St. roofs. I lived there on Lehman about 15yrs ago - but grew up on East Side. Sure looks like it would've been a good place to watch what was going on at Crosley! Not long after that filming, it was torn down of course.
The next season Cincinnati won 70 out the 1st 100 games and national league pennant but lost to the Orioles in the WS in 5 games. Pete Rose obviously belongs in the HoF as a player just put his off field controversies and betting on a separate plaque. Pete knows MLB won't put him in while he's alive as MLB is petty & grudge holding, hell shoeless Joe Jackson still isn't in!!!
Fantastic video!! Poignant, now that Pete is gone!

What I take away from this film is that I really wish I could have gone to see a game at old Crosley Field.
I made it to 2 games at Crosley, many years ago.
@@jeffreymcfadden9403 Lucky you!

He was just scratching the surface in '69. Took my Phillies to the WS also.

I dig mom's hairdo! A real B - 52!
When did the Reds lose the red pinstripes?
They revived the stripes in early 2000s but no longer where pinstripes. This season the Reds will feature 19 different uni's from the past to celebrate 150 years.
After the 1967 season.
Thanks you Pete Rose come back home to you place

Any idea where Pete is standing around 21:00 overlooking Crosley? I was thinking maybe Knob Hill off Lehman by the Cincinnati Christian University.

Smart baseball man wonder if he got to manage 30 years also
Great baseball player but character flaws like the rest of us
21:10 Pete you absolutely got your wish.
Where was the area he was at in the beginning? Looks like a great place to build condos!!!
westside of Cincy along the Ohio river...it still looks similar today.
Also, is that his dad at 20:30 who says he thinks Pete has a good shot at being put into the Hall of Fame? Interesting.
Yeah that was his dad. He said barring injury he stood a good chance. Quite a bumpy ride turns out...
4:15 His mother paid him relatively more than the Reds did.
Petes gambling problem started he was 9 years old! A dollar a touchdown! Who'd have known?
That's not gambling. It's incentive.
