Wow just seen your video I went and changed spark plugs 🔌 high pressure pump the whole tone up and everything.. and not once did I check the batteries. The drive train malfunction happened again on my way to Vegas at 113° weather.. ill check batteries next

Be careful folks, if your mileage is up around 80k+ it’s very possible there’s a deeper issue, especially with the timing chain and/or oil pump chains and guides assemblies. This is a serious issue with these engines, look it up. Maybe changing the battery resets the computer, but if you’ve got a failed timing chain assembly you need to get to the real problem ASAP
I agree! Got the same message on my 2013 5 series. The message goes away when the car is restarted. Needless to say, I have an appointment with the dealership this week. Better safe than sorry!
It’s a (bad ignition coil or spark plug) ignition coil can fail from oil seeping down over time from an old valve cover gasket if so get all 3 the valve cover gasket, all coil packs and spark plugs and your car will be somewhat revived and stay reliable in that area
Following up, I purchased a Duralast Platinum H8 battery at Autozone and had the shop install the battery and reprogram. Been driving for a week (400 miles) now and have not experienced the Drivetrain problem again. 2014 BMW 328i. Also, the tech checked for codes and no more error codes appeared.

Hey guys I have a 2012 f30 n20 motor and I have the drivetrain malfunction warning. They symptoms I'm experiencing is that the car starts on fine I drive it normal through 45mph streets but one I get on the highway or I step on the gas I get the same error. I get to my destination, I turn the car off and on and the error message disappeared. While that happened on the highway I lost all of my boost, the car could rev up like normal i was just not getting any boost. Eventually I plugged my obd2 scanner and I got a code p0234 stating that I had overboost. So I started to check the turbo solenoid and the wastegate and the wastegate seemed fine but the solenoid was leaking oil. Then I remembered that I had a locksmith take off the engine cover. on the 2012 f30 the cover has a hose coming out from it. so when he placed it on he connected the hoses wrong and that's why I was having oil leaks on the solenoid. So I ordered a new solenoid (which was like 80ish dollars) hopefully that will fix my problem. I hope this helped out anyone. I will edit this post once I get the new solenoid installed and tested.
This is my second time getting this error code and getting the limp mode. The first time it was the fuel pump and fuel pump sensor. It was around 3k that was paid out of my own pocket. This same incident happened today; I’ll be taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning. The manager seemed very scared and nervous.
@@alexsuero1645 vacuum pump on the back of the intake causes oil to fill the vacuum lines and not build boost. New vacuum pump needed and vacuum lines cleaned out and it will be perfect again
Just got this code, but my car is a 2011 535i with 140,000 miles. It's been very reliable, but for the past few months it has been shaking periodically during idle. I took it to mechanic, he couldn't find any codes, and told me to bring it back when it gives me a code. Well tonight it gave me the drivetrain malfunction code. In the past it also has given me the 'battery discharge' code too. So, knowing this information, do you think it could also be battery issue with my car? Or do you think with the high mileage I should go straight to plugs/ignition coils?

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones i got over 120,000 miles on my 2013 328 and I've not had one problem with it. But I do live in Chicagoland so I had to replace all the suspension components but other than that as long as I keep doing my maintenance she keeps driving just fine it probably is time for me to replace the starter though.
That warning isn’t always a bad battery, just that there is a fault bad enough with the car to put it in limp mode. For example my car had that message and I fixed it by adjusting the wastegate actuator. Other cars, especially the older 135i, 335i, 535i had major issues with fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pumps. A battery won’t fix those cars.
@@lsm4j there is an adjustment rod between the wastegate actuator and the flap. I just loosened the nuts and spun it to take up any slack, and tightened it back down. Easy, only took 2 minutes.

@@Silverqueen68 yep, go get it checked out at a dealer, or if it has a check engine light, go scan it at a local auto parts store and that will give you some sort of idea of what’s wrong with it
Thanks, my car just did this twice, once on while on the highway so it is rather scary. Anyhow I took it to a BMW shop and they also recommended a battery replacement. I thought what does that have to do with the drivetrain, but I will follow the advice. Will follow up later.
@@el_jefe1678 replaced the battery and it happened again, took back to the shop and he said it might be the fuel pump module, so he loaned me a module and it reoccurred after 4 days, I could not drive the car faster than 30mph or it would shut down, So I'm done with this car gonna' sell it not gonna waste money on shops guessing what the problem might be. I think BMW really F'd up here making your car shut down if there's a problem, leave you stranded in the middle of the highway.

This is my second time around with this error. First error was around 2-3 months ago. Ended up bein my fuel pump and fuel pump sensor. This is the second time that this happened, my car started shaking as in losing power, then turned off. No alert was projected the first time. I turned it off and on and ran normal, then about 10mins of driving, my car turned off while on the road. I’m headed to the dealer ship and contacted the manager there. He seemed very concerned and very disappointed on his part for sounding like if it were the same problem as the first time. Hopefully they’ll give me something on their part and fix it ASAP. I’ll let you guys know what happens tomorrow.

Cracked my 19’ M rims , insurance is covering but still a hassle and inconvenience I’m occurring. I’ve also changed fuel pumps, high and low pressure on my older bmws , which causes drive train malfunction and shoots you to regular drive.

După cum descri problema se pare ca nu merg toate pistoanele deci are legătură cu bujiile și cablurile de conectare, încearcă sa verifici înainte sa schimbi ceva Te poți duce la masina și sa desurubezi o bujie dacă ști și te poți uita dacă bujia e consumata
Hello Cernat, Please help, my vehicle 2012, 328i sedan @95,000 miles: I have the same problem as you got the "Drivertrain malfunction" on screen, few minutes later I got check engine light pops up as well (check engine light is P1290 translated to "123401/123432 Electric wastegate limit learning limit stop"). I replaced 4 spark plugs, ignition coil, transmission fluid and filter. The error still came up. How did you concluded that your battery was the problem? did you get any symptom that indicate your battery is bad? Please advise.... this car has the original battery since 2012, I do not have any battery system. Thank you so much

I really want to hope it's just the battery. My car stalled and then would turn off after that. It wanted to stop running while driving and then I turned it off then back on and it wouldn't crank anymore

If your car is shaking it's definitely not your battery, your having a misfire so change your ignition coils and spark plugs you can thank me later

Ai schimbat bujiile sau fișele?
Eu am schimbat bujiile o data si tot am primit error pentru ca nu erau originale
Masina are 124000 km, nu am schimbat bujii, nu stiu ce sunt alea fise😊
La 124.000 km ar trebui sa schimbi bujiile si cablurile care se conectează la bujii sau cel puțin le poți verifica dacă mai sunt bune
Deci sfatul tau Claudiu, este sa verific bujiile la service? Si daca e necesar sa le schimb? Din cauza asta poate aparea eroarea? Eu am observat ca atunci cand pornesc masina la rece si apare eroare parca isi pierde motorul din putere si da sa moara si chiar daca nu apare eroarea cand apas pe start engine parca nu o ia imediat, parca se chinuie putin si apoi o ia... bujiile pot fi? Sau bobinele de inductie? Ce mai citisem pe net... problema e ca cand pune mecanicul tester... nu apare nici.o eroare... era o eroare legata de airbag parca... cv de genul.. numai tin minte exact
După cum descri problema se pare ca nu merg toate pistoanele deci are legătură cu bujiile și cablurile de conectare, încearcă sa verifici înainte sa schimbi ceva
Te poți duce la masina și sa desurubezi o bujie dacă ști și te poți uita dacă bujia e consumata

Please help, my vehicle 2012, 328i sedan @95,000 miles: I have the same problem as you got the "Drivertrain malfunction" on screen, few minutes later I got check engine light pops up as well (check engine light is P1290 translated to "123401/123432 Electric wastegate limit learning limit stop"). I replaced 4 spark plugs, ignition coil, transmission fluid and filter. The error still came up. How did you concluded that your battery was the problem? did you get any symptom that indicate your battery is bad? Please advise.... this car has the original battery since 2012, I do not have any battery system. Thank you so much
Check engine light i recomand you to see a mechanic
@@cicclaus25 Cernat, Thanks for the help. I just came back from AutoZone for battery tested and alternator are both good. I hate to tell you, I think it's the "23401/123432 Electric wastegate limit learning limit stop" The Electric Wastegate needs to be replace. Again thank you!

Ya mins was shaking also they said I have transmission and engine problems so I'm pretty sure it's going to cost me thosands of dollars.

me it happen after changing my alternator cause first its said CHARGING MALFUNCTION. 3 thing to inspect the belt the alternator and battery . after all that inspection it was my alternator. i change it work fine drive for 30 to 40min around on the street and after i hit the highway. the DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION appear my heart went straight down in the sink hole . if you said is the battery . i gonna check that check my video ruclips.net/video/ugVY9qboxLs/видео.html

P126b is caused by a faulty wastegate actuator

I really want to hope it's just the battery. My car stalled and then would turn off after that. It wanted to stop running while driving and then I turned it off then back on and it wouldn't crank anymore

BMW is not shit. Yeah, some models are hit or miss, but mine has been very reliable...So has my dad’s. Not every BMW is “unreliable”.
