I have great memories of riding in the 80's, seemed back then 1 out of every 4 kids had either dirt bikes or three wheelers. I had a mini bike in 1979, then in 1980 I bought a brand new Kawasaki KDX 80, after that I bought a 1983 Yamaha IT 175, then a 1987 KX 125, then a 1989 RM 125.

people say the new 450s are "faster" but the truth is there just easier to ride the 500s will always be the most powerful and anyone that has ridden one can agree 😂

Anyone that knows doesn’t say that. I never rode a cr500, but did ride a kx500 a couple times and it scared the living shit out of me and I spent my days on a cr250 back then. They are the only dirt bike ever made to humble everyone.

@@Seveneleven44 yes ik 500 2 strokes are beasts the 250 2 strokes have all the power you'll ever need

@@Seveneleven44 I have a 2002 CR500E (street legal 500 in Australia) and I've spent so much time on it that it doesn't feel scary or fast. I happily keep that throttle pinned anywhere. The only time I feel humbled is when I take a prolonged break from riding. I once took a year long hiatus and after swinging the leg over it I couldn't believe I hadn't killed myself on this bike earlier. It's amazing how you get used to things but also dangerous.

@@dune7824 u sound like a bit of bloody durungo, mate!you'd best aquire a bit of Foster's lager and go on a walkabout! Maybe box a red kangaroo, kick a dingo.i.d.k. joking.really, street legal cr500?that's cool.possibly detuned,? Or quieter exhaust than the "r" model?I ride a yz250 2 stroke and on dirt if I'm on the pipe,I can't keep the font end on the ground even in 5th.,with loose traction.i can't imagine the 500cc on pavement would be any easier...have a good day.

@@conservativerealist It's all true mate. The 500e or enduro model they sold here was a ploy to move the last of the 500 stock. They were seriously restricted from the factory and the road legal kit was an afterthought. A 125 would probably have given it a run for its money. Good thing it only took a few minutes to remove the butt plug and rabbit in the airbox and it's back to 450 smoking performance. I sold the front wheel as it never got any use.

it feels like we went backwards in tech with these four stroke bikes. i bet a 300CC two stroke would smoke that 4 joke

They're amazing bikes and to think these 500 engines are in a very mild state of tune compared to the 450's. You can pull an extra 10hp from the 500 and still have a reliable engine.

What most people don't know is that a CR-500 has 27% more torque then modern day 450's have ! Look up the extensive dyno testing that Ken Kaplan has done comparing the two engines ! Used to race these bigbore two-stroke beasts back in the 80's and early 90's on a 83CR480 and a 87CR-500 mastering throttle control is a absolute must on a CR-500 💪😎
