I'm going to be doing this gate setup in the spring or summer, would it possible to put an aluminum sleeve in the vertical slat that holds the latch? I plan on putting a wheel on the bottom of each gate to support the weight if they make one for vinyl.
@@dr.figvideos3303 We hired a fence company who offered it. The aluminum posts were designed to go in the vinyl posts, looking down into the post the aluminum looks like a “H”. They also put concrete at the base which sealed the vinyl and aluminum posts together
The fence gate hardware (alignment screws/ nuts) is on the outside. Shouldn't you put it on the inside so someone can't take it apart? Or does it matter?
If you want the gate to open to the other side, backyard swing in this case you would put the hardware on the other side. If someone wants or needs to get through the gate they will be able to without dismantling the hardware
Can you put a vinyl post over an existing wood post? The wood post that we have are in good shape and they are secure. Any suggestions will help. Thanks
If you are using brackest to hang the panels. Yes. Otherwise if the post are slotted you will run into problems as the rails (top & bottom) will be obstructed by the 4x4. What I did was I cut it as far down as possible to prevent this problem.
The hinges seem to not be strong enough to close the 5 foot double gates. What do I do then ? It won’t pass inspection for Pool. Do I add another pair of hinges ? Or what ?
Thanks for the video. Is the 10' 3" gap measured center to center or edge to edge of the end posts? The gates we are using measure 58" across (each) so not sure if I still need the extra 3". Thank you.
Great video. I have a similar situation. in order to maintain a flat top, did you cut the bottom of the pickets to an angle equal to the slope of the ground?
1:03 Did you say "still" or "steel"? I assume you are talking about the metal inserts that go inside the gate posts; mine are aluminum. What kind of screws did you use? Do you have to use aluminum screws?
I'm in the middle of built for inground pool. Inspection is requesting that my 10ft gate(like in the video) have to be self closing and one gate opens towards the outside of the house. Now both doors swing towards inside the house. Is this doable?
I have a Vinyl Fence installed in my Backyard last year in November and I love it. The only thing is..... I am kinda OCD In some ways unlike you guys out there, and I just don’t like the SPACE GAPS between the gate and the vinyl fence....i know it cannot be avoided because of the hinges and the Gate Locks, but I wish there was a way to cover the space between the hinges of the fence and the swing gate.....other than that, I love Vinyl Fences......i had to ask my contractor 5 panels so I can stake them in front of those gaps of the two gates i had installed ....I have to unstake them everytime yard guys come to cut the grass so I could open the gate for them.....too much work for me especially now that summer is near.....my husband is okay with the gaps, but definitely not for me.....is there any other way I could cover these gaps?
I'm NOT a vinyl fence installation person but I was wondering the same thing. Maybe take extra slats from the fence sections, cut them to length and use construction adhesive to apply them like you would a trim piece to the side that swings out so the gap would be covered? You'd have to pay attention to make sure it's straight and you're applying it to the correct side for sure though and not sure how you'd finish the ends of the pieces.
Something we've done is cut a post down the length into " L " shaped pieces. Cut to the height of the gate and then screw to the post inside the edge of the gate opposite the hinge side of gate . Do the same on the strike post.
@@robertbutler8004 How long have you done fencing? With my limited 30 years of actual experience I have found that post settle and move with time, if you have a 1/4" gap you will for sure regret it down the road.

Can you put a 4x4 wood post inside the vinyl post for added strength?
Yes
We did aluminum posts inside
@@NicoleHope7424 How does an aluminum pole support a vinyl post (since it is much thinner)? Thanks!

Ok. But how would you install a 4’ tall double gate on top of existing concrete? Is there a way to do it without cutting the concrete?
You have two choices. 1) Cut or drill the concrete post holes OR 2) use post bases & drill 4 concrete anchors (per base) into the cement.

When you set the posts how much do you leave put of the ground? For 6' fence panels

Edge to edge. As the extra 3" is for the gaps for hinges and such
Thanks.
Good video but the gaps opening are to wide. Is there a way to put something better than that?
Use different hinges.

Where can I find the drop rod holder?
What’s the reader (laser) you’re using ? Where can I get it and what’s the name of it ? Thanks!
Will I be able to screw in a lattice so no small animals can get in thru the underneath open space, if so what kind of screw will i use?
I was wondering the same thing! I dog sit so I have to make sure the little guys can't sneak under it :)
Use a self tapping screw, you can pick it up at any hardware store.
Are the gate posts longer than the end posts since the post stiffiner is longer than a standard post?
Not typically,

Absolutely, you will need self closing hinges and alternate the side of post your gate hinges from.

@@amos616 thats exactly what you would do.
What does this cost?
Awesome video. Thank for your vinyl fence and gate tutorials.
do you sell the steel inserts? or do you have a place you recommend for buying it from?
we sell them but you can get them from home depot I believe.
What kind of screws are you using?
self tapping, 3/8" head, 1" long.
If I have a 8' long gate can I reduce it to 6'long gate
absolutely
Why is there a huge gap between the two gates? Was that intentional?
Yes it was. 1” per gap
toomanycats305 the gap did not need to be one inch at all I have seen many double gates where the gap is nowhere near one inch.
@@robertbutler8004 We installed ours with a much smaller gap and it looks great!

@Wudadnoiz Yes, you can cut a piece a vinyl from a post or rail and create a cover so you can't see through the gaps.
I was under the impression no one uses metal hinges and latches on vinyl fences?
They're likely painted stainless steel, in addition there are literally dozens of options for vinyl fence hinges...
Do you install Vinyl Fences or just sell the materials for DIY?
We install in Pocatello Idaho but we distribute through 43 facilities through out the US.

Pretty sure these are going to sag after some months, no?
They are still level and strong.
Why couldn't you rack(angle down) that fence section with the slope? That left side panel looks HORRIBLE!!
horrible gap on the middle...no privacy...
