Going down the vinyl fence rabbit hole with SWI vids in case I get into a new house soon with a blank canvas of a yard. Very straight forward and informative of both the good and bad ways. Sometimes it’s good to know what NOT to do to avoid problems and mistakes.👍
Great video. If you don’t want the double gate having a center post, example being for a driveway gate. Are you just adding wheels to the bottom to open the gates and carry the load? I ask because I am going to build a 12ft wide double gate for my driveway
I’ve done that man! Last summer, I installed two 4’ X 6’ high walk gates. All of the components were similar except the brace. It wasn’t rectangular. Instead it was flat with a rib down the center. There was only one brace on each gate. That’s where I ran into confusion. The destruction sheet showed it being installed in extension. Everything I thought I knew about gates pointed to having the brace installed in compression. I argued with the local fence supplier and told them I wasn’t comfortable putting it in that way. They told me that I had to do it like the instructions or it would void the warranty. Although neither hat is sagging yet… After watching this… I feel vindicated. I’m going to order a second set of braces and install them the right way. Thanx for showing me the way!
@@vinylyardsolutionsinc1228that's backwards from how wood fences are built. Why do you say to build a PVC gate differently? You want the pressure of the gate to be pushing on the lower post because it's closer to the ground and more solid
@@chadr00it IS opposite, a Vinyl brace does NOT work as a compression brace simply because it just bows out in the middle as pressure is applied. Great video! I have a 7.5 foot wood gate with a wheel on it and am trying to replace with vinyl but not finding anything past 6 feet. With your system, it would look easy to extend the gate length. Why can’t this be accomplished?
Is it possible to make one of your kits work with a couple of 3.5 inch Simpson strong tie surface mounted post brackets? I have those currently right now but my pressure treated main post is bad and my gate sags.

Help..
If I want to put a wheel at the bottom of the gate, is there a metal insert I can buy so it stays solid? Would be nice to have one with a hole in it to be able to run a carriage bolt or bolt and washer through
I would like to take a section out of my vinyl fence and make a double gate out of that section, because the style is no longer available. Is this possible. Thank you if there is a solution.
So our installer put a end post in that is 1.5" out of plumb. When we pointed it out, he said it was to compensate for the weight of the gate. Any truth to that?
No. He may think that--but it's only because he doesn't know what he's doing. He's used to having gates sag so he's trying to compensate the best way he knows how. He needs a deeper hole and more concrete, with a gate with proper bracing. The end post should be perfectly plumb just like all the other posts.
don't trash the left overs....here we return it to the store that returns it to the one who made it, the can re use it by scrapping it ;) in Germany it's comon to do that even old raingutters and pipes..here in the Netherlands it's he new thing...remember in the trash it stays years and years before its gone if you burn it then it sets free hydrocyanic acid gas....
We use that exact same rail. It's 1 3/4 wide You guys make the gate the way we did 10 years ago. Theres a much better way to make it. You dont need a Diagnal no matter how wide the gate is. You use a 2x6 for the gate end routed for the 1 3/4 x 8in rail Then slide the rail in. It slaides in snug. spread it apart a little with a screw driver and squirt a dab of glue in on both sides. And do it on all 4 corners. If you do that the corners will be welded with that vinyl glue and its impossible to sag. Its super fast and easy
This is not a cosmetic concern for the majority of people. It's just a side-effect of this particular fence design. The rails have to be thicker than the pickets, and the cross brace needs to extend to the very top and bottom edges.
thats easy, now how do you build a gate that will work on a fence that is built on a slope,in other words a racked or croked gate.say a 8 inch drop in a 4 foot opening so both end posts and the gate posts line up on the top?
Did you get this figured out? Always hang your gate on the lower post. For anything over 3” the gate will need to be custom built with multiple cuts. BUT it can be done. Where are you located?
Consider this... Include a small packet of glue into the kit (to glue the caps). This would be inexpensive, and would eliminate the need for the customer to figure out (and locate and buy) what type of glue will work on vinyl. Also, securing the cross-bracing flush to the center planks introduces a bend to the cross-brace that weakens the brace (and IMO, reduces the visual appeal).
You're describing a tension brace, instead of a compression brace. This is meant to function as a compression brace. ruclips.net/video/VVKqmwlnHPc/видео.html
@SWiFence I know exactly what I'm describing, compression brace on Vinyl gates don't work properly because they just bow out in the middle as pressure (gravity) is applied . IF the brace were a "solid" or nonflexable component then it would work , but then only to the degree that it would start to slowly, over time, force the stile to push away from the rail. It's simple physics. It's why on the farm a cable , or tension brace, is used on pasture fence gates. But on "solid" gates in wood , iron or aluminum a pressure or compression brace is more effective due to the nature of the product. To prove it for yourself, hang the gate and install the brace in each application, then pull down gently on the outer stile from top and see what happens. Lemme know... actually, I already DO know 🙂. Other than that, I like the video, we build our gates pretty much the same way with a little different tweak. I've just been doing this for 30 yr and trying to help ya out. 👍
Well, the brace runs the opposite direction on the other side ruclips.net/video/bLeyPCqdnBo/видео.html so even if you disagree with the compression brace you've got a tension brace on the other side.
Thank you for your video, but If this video serves as an encouragement to purchase this product I have doubts about your success. The appraiser coming up with the price of $440 did not consider the time spent to put it together for anyone who buys it. So it becomes very expensive Item to the point I have to call it "Ridiculous Price". Perhaps a complete gate would make more sense but not a kit. It is not a kit it's"RIP"
It's all a matter of perspective. We are not in the budget fence materials market, and we don't consider this price "ridiculous" at all for quality materials that will last. The folks that purchase them from us would agree.
Informative but not the best way to build a vinyl gate. I have been doing vinyl gates for over 20 years and come up with a basic system that will not sag. Plus the weight of their gates are way heavy.
everyone's got their own way. these i'd assume aren't that heavy especially given some companies do metal inserts which i'm not a personal fan of. The only way you could really make these any lighter is swapping out those 4x4s for a 3x3 or a 2x3.
This is exactly what I need! The video put the product over the top. I'm a weekend DYI guy, and feel more than confident that I can pull this off. Thanks!!

Where do you get the kits from? I have a 6x6 gate for dumpsters at my work and repairing them

Nice but i need some bigger at least 6ft high by 12 foot wide
Why not install the gate braces the same direction on both sides the correct position (lower hinge side to upper latch side)?
This makes the gate reversible. If for any reason it needs to be hinged on one side instead of the other it's still usable.
Price to install 4ft double gate on existing fence that's up
Can you do a 3 ft wide kit?
You can absolutely cut the kit down to a smaller size.
If I want to put a wheel at the bottom of the gate, is there a metal insert I can buy so it stays solid? Would be nice to have one with a hole in it to be able to run a carriage bolt or bolt and washer through
We don't have an insert for a wheel. We pretty much avoid using wheels at all costs.
There has to be a way to get a double door without the post in the middle?
We build ours with removable middle posts.
How do I order the gate kits?

Install the cross brace inside the two rails. I agree with you Silvio, it looks better without the gap and should have the same amount of hold.

Why the center post on a double gate?
Because we have high winds up here, and we've found it much more secure. Keeps the gate closed better and prevents damage.

Rubbing alcohol and a rag, very quickly and easily removes permanent marker from vinyl if you're that worried about it..
It's a shame you dont have spacers for the diagonals so they aren't warped onto the pickets? Otherwise it looks awesome!
My man doesn't use a riving knife on the table saw
The diagonal brace should start at the top hinge and run diagonally to the lower opposite corner. Works better.
