Nice video. You did a great job on that custom gate. I’m in the process of buying a 6x8 fence panel as the gate I have to build will just be 4x6. May I ask you as I have no clue on how to do these builds would a gate kit2 come with reinforced panels as you did with your custom build with the wood inserts? Also would any vinyl panel be compatible with any gate kit?
I got the 109$ gate kit from Home Depot for my weatherables gate because it had the slim side pieces but I couldn’t decide what to put in the ends to cover the openings. But looks better than a 5x5. I was going to cut out some azac maybe but all set now. Cool video!!!
The vertical slats on your door have the U-channel on it so it looks nice. What did you do with the edge openings of the horizontal rails? Did you fill them with something? I notice the center has a wood block in it. But what about the upper section? And what did you use for the 45deg bar that runs across?
Yes, you can fill up the hollow space with something soft (eg. paper cardboard) before chaulking. The 45 degree cross bar is to support the door frame so that it wouldn't skew one side. I hope it helps. Good luck with your project!
I bought 55ft and 3 gates kits. Any ideas on how to stop the post from moving when the gate swings? any Solid overkill ideas? Because the fence needs to use the space inside for horizontal beams I can't do a pressure treated 4x4 inside. I am thinking concrete + rebar inside. or support post.
Good question! I attached the post to another 4x4 post next to it. Alternatively, you can also consider this support beam: www.lowes.com/pd/Freedom-Metal-Fence-Post-Insert-Vinyl-Fence/3955859 I hope that helps.
Picture a really really long staple. Now take rebar and bend, or cut and weld it, to make a staple that is as long as the fence post and make it just wide enough to slip down into the post from the top, and go across one corner over to the other far corner. This will clear the horizontal beams and yet you can drop a little sack crete inside the post to anchor the rebar before the horizontal beams are installed.
I’m trying to come up with an alternative for the pricey gate kit. I have the 6ft privacy 3 rail pre assembled panels by freedom. My first attempt failed, couldn’t handle the wind and buckled. I refuse to buy the gate kit for the ridiculous price.
This is genius! I have a similar vinyl fence from menards, but the mods can be done to it. Do you have a description of the tools you used? I am wanting to get a hole auger bit that attaches to a drill like the one you used. Where can I find this at?
I modify a 4" auger bit which I bought from Amazon. So that it fits into SDS rotary hammer drill. Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/UwW0tVbX1PE/видео.html&ab_channel=Father%26SonHandySkills
I know. If you do some research on the price, you will realize why there are so many people looking for creative ways to custom make the gate on their own.
Looks good but the end is open and exposed. I don't think customers will be happy with the open end. Not a finish professional look. Peace-meal to save a couple of bucks, works for the homeowner I guess.

Where do they sell those hinges on the door?
Amazon. Different brand.
Is the post that hold the gate empty? Or do u filled with something?
Smart building a custom gate .👍
That saved some 💰 .
Good video.
Thanks! Are you working on the same project right now?
@@enderchoo yes.
A 36 ft run with 5ft wide gate.
Just trying to double check to make sure I do it right. 😁🙏👍✌
@@lionfan9518 Way to go! 👍👍 Looking forward to your video!
The panel install was good this gate install you have to use a steel insert in the hinge post to resist the sage and bear the load of the hinges

@@enderchoo I-beam I am getting them. I found it on another Video. Thank you for these 2 videos and the reply!

Wish you good luck in creating your own!

How do you lock in the pickets so they don't try to slide out of the rails?
Just install the fence gate with a diagonal metal bar. Put one tiny screws to secure the picket at the edge. I hope this helps!
Thr fence looks really high. How tall are you?
The fence is 6.5 ft high.
They make a gate kit you just cut the rails to the length, even comes with a latch and hinges with covers

Is it expensive how much do you save doing it this way buying the panel and kit from Home Depot is like 180-200
Why are you wearing Crocks at a job site?
Nice Sandles

This guy is wearing sandles while working on gravel...must like the feel of rocks in your shoes which is very annoying.
you put the brace on backwards. It goes from the bottom on the hinge side to the top at the latch side
Thanks for your response! This door's opening is facing the street. Therefore, the installation has to be different from what the manual instructed.
