As much as I love the crazy brews and the it almost works style decks there is definitely something to watching a very solid tier deck played by one of the best players out there.
+Peter Larson I had to go back into the video and max my volume out for it to be very noticeable. Are your headphones surgically inserted in your ears?
Thanks for doing these, I've always wanted to build GBx in some form but haven't worked up the nerve to pick up the more expensive mainstays, so I live vicariously through your videos. Good learning tools as well, especially for using discard spells.
I was actually just talking to my testing buddies about how I think Abzan is in a better place than Jund because of the access to Stony Silence. Crazy being on the same wavelink. Glad to see you in another video to. Always look forward to your gameplay and commentary!
Thanks Reid! Love all your modern content and especially that GWx goodness (GBw is close enough) Fun humans note: at 45:06 our life gets a lot harder if opponent takes the Fatal Push rather than the Path to Exile. Kinda goes against intuition, but I wonder how the game would have gone if they had put us in that position. Crazy game either way. It’s cool to see that the best “1-drop, 2-drop, 3-drop” aggro deck in modern creates such decision-intense games.
I think your opponent made a mistake, if he took Push instead of Path, that would have made him use the Path on the Freebooter or use it on the Rider, thin his deck and he would have at least had an air threat for a bit longer.
I'm an old player looking to get back in Magic, and I might invest in a Modern deck. If I do it will probably be Abzan. Some of my favorite colors, I like the play style, and this deck shares a lot of cards with Jund which could be nice if I wanted to go change it up in the future.
I think he wants the CMC to be as low to the ground as humanly possible. Another thing to note is Knight is GW. He has less green mana than black, and his white is kind of a splash color, with the only maindeck white spell being "lingering souls." I think it would throw off his mana consistency a bit to have a selesnya spell in his primarily BG deck. Lastly, I think Tireless Tracker (which also doesn't make the cut) would probably be better here than Reliquary if you wanted a grindy, ever growing threat.
At 29:20 I'm wondering if it would have been better to play Liliana first even though you could not activate it. That puts the opponent in a position to use mana for mutavault activation and an attack with both their creatures means you could eat one and keep Lili at 1 loyalty. Or they would simply disregard it and you have more flexibility with Pulse the following turn. Would leave to hear your thoughts on this alternative. Edit: I know getting the spyglass into the yard makes Goyf bigger right away and with the way the game played out the play I described would have been terrible; but I'm still interested to hear your thoughts.
Idk, tracker is way slower. Comes down a turn later and requires 5 total mana before you see your first extra card. It has some upside in grindier matchups for sure, but I feel like the deck already grinds super well.
M2 G2 against Humans any thought about blocking the lieutenant with Grim Flayer triggering revolt on Push to kill Staticaster? Then reload with Confidant
G2 against Storm... I think that a viable play would've been to pop Spellbomb in response to the manamorphose, as that would throw them off their momentum for the Ascension. And opponent missed the opportunity to go Manamorphose > Remand on it with an active Ascension.
Wonder how this deck is with Assassin's trophie. That card and Tarmogoyf are actually very good friends + it's kinda like playing with a sideboard card in the main board.
I think fatal push pretty much murdered 4 drops. I know "dies to doomblade" is a bad argument but considering push is the most played removal in the format, skipping 4 and going straight to 5+ for your beefy creatures (Tasigur, Angler, etc) seems way better as it blanks a lot of mainboard removal.
I love tracker, but I just think it's redundant and a bit too slow. I think modern is a bit too fast rn. You have to draw your 4th land, and also commit at least 5 mana total before you see your first card. The diff between 2 mana and 3 for turn sequencing is insane too. Idk, Tireless Tracker is one of my fave cards, and I always want to jam it into any green deck, but I can see why it's not included here.
Good video. I was skeptical that losing BBE, Kolaghans Command, Lightning bolt would be made up for by white cards. I'd like to see some more UW control matches with this deck. Also, Hissing Quagmire might be slightly better against everything except Burn than the Shambling Vent, the deathtouch could take down other goyfs, gurmags, big deaths shadows, big humans, etc. Lifegain from vent never seemed to matter.
I think maybe the turn against Steel Overseer and Walking Ballista you could downtick Liliana. Liliana trades but you get to keep your two Spirit tokens, or opponent uses it and loses both creatures, but you still have your target removal
Hello Reid, gratz for your great Richmond GP, I was watching you the whole event, deserved the Top 8 for sure, next time, you're the best. Please, if it's possible, me and some friends wan¡t you to play Bant aggro, we need your list and your mastery here with Bant, thanks a lot, have a nice weekend.
I think it was right to slam confidant on T2 in that 3rd match. At worst, he played a steel overseer. Then you get to decay the overseer and start drawing cards. I also think it was incorrect to pulse the Karn. To me, the correct line was play push on hangarback, then pulse the tokens. He probably activates overseer in response to push to get another thopter, and you get to kill karn as a result. Just my two cents.
Your line is way worse. If he activates overseer in response when he knows about the pulse our Confidant revealed he's punting. Assuming he doesn't punt there isn't enough damage to guarantee a Karn kill, and letting the opponent untap with Karn seems like an awful idea.
Reid! You said you hate path to exile in grindy, resource denial decks running LOTV, inquisition, dark confidant, fulminator mage etc.. What changed? Is it because path is so good against humans and they don't care about lands? Also, grim flayer without investment into mishra's bauble/street wraith type cantrips seems way too weak on its own.
Been working on a decklist that I think has some serious potential (needs a bit of tweaking though), that also fits your play style perfectly, wondered what your/anyone elses thoughts were: manastack.com/deck/5-colour-jund
Malestorm Pulse was MVP. I like the deck. But it has 10 cards that like the graveyeard, not counting last hope and lingering souls. Is that not a lot vs gravyeard hate? My heavy gravyeard decks always suffer.
With Goyfs they gotta blow up both graveyards to shrink it to useless status. (Which is slightly less common.) With Flayer, at least when it gets in you get to basically scry 3. Not ideal, but it doesn't become completely worthless. Hopefully if they drop a Rest in Peace, you can get a couple scavenging ooze activations in response for some counters. Although I do think something like a RIP would make murderous cut pretty worthless. I don't think GY hate hurts this deck as bad as something like Mardu Pyromancer (which also isn't 100% GY reliant, but definitely gets hurt much worse.)
I think the idea behind the flayer, over tracker, is to make the deck a bit more aggressive. I'm guessing that's why you don't see things like siege rhino or tracker.
The deck's already very grindy, and needs to have a faster clock vs KCI, Storm, and Tron. The difference between 2 and 3 cmc is huge when it comes to things like casting multiple spells a turn too. You're a lot more likely to be able to flayer + pulse or lili in a turn than to tracker + 3 drop.
Reid, I love your videos and you're one of my favorite content creators but man in a large portion of your videos it sounds like your roommate is building Ikea furniture or preparing a 3 course meal. Surely there is a room you can record your videos in or a time when you can do it such that your roommates / gf aren't home. It's incredibly distracting/annoying. Or even to get a headset with a mic that doesn't pick up all the noise in your home. Either way, thanks for the content. The community appreciates it.
Channel Reid truly is my favorite channel
Hardened Scales pilot is no ordinary player. He's PT Champion Shaun McLaren.
>Reid
>midrange
YES
I really enjoy how you explain your choices in detail when playing. You're the most instructive payer on CFB.
As much as I love the crazy brews and the it almost works style decks there is definitely something to watching a very solid tier deck played by one of the best players out there.
Somebody donate a 4th Future Sight Tarmogoyf to Reid.
Was about to say the same thing. Also if he'd sell the other one he'd probably have to spend 5 bucks MAX to buy the other one!
He has one. He just chooses not to play it lol.
Or some better audio equipment. That hum is killing me! Otherwise I love Reid’s videos
+Peter Larson I had to go back into the video and max my volume out for it to be very noticeable. Are your headphones surgically inserted in your ears?
ktrizzle I can hear it very clearly through my phone speaker
playing against shaun mclaren in match 3. that was sweet!
Reid! Always some of the most satisfying content on CFB! Thanks for the content, folks!
Thanks for doing these, I've always wanted to build GBx in some form but haven't worked up the nerve to pick up the more expensive mainstays, so I live vicariously through your videos. Good learning tools as well, especially for using discard spells.
Most fun player to watch and listen to! Reid you rock!
God, Lingering Souls is such a great card.
Could you please move the CFB logo somewhere else? I really like seeing how kind you are to your opponent in the chat.
I was actually just talking to my testing buddies about how I think Abzan is in a better place than Jund because of the access to Stony Silence. Crazy being on the same wavelink. Glad to see you in another video to. Always look forward to your gameplay and commentary!

A day with a new Reid Duke video is always a good day.
I'm sad with no Siege Rhino. I get why, but still sad about it.
I've been sad about it since 4 drops stopped being great in modern.
Agreed. Best card you can't play in modern. I try so hard with Abzan Rites :(
canlander ;)
I'm a big fan of reed. I think I watched every recorded match of his on this channel. I just wanted to thank you. Jund isð very dear to me too
I think your opponent made a mistake, if he took Push instead of Path, that would have made him use the Path on the Freebooter or use it on the Rider, thin his deck and he would have at least had an air threat for a bit longer.
Reid is the boss. I met him at gp Orlando coolest guy ever.
Really love these long videos with Reid !
Great vid! Reids content never fails to entertain and educate ☺️
Reid didn't even realize he was playing against Shaun McLaren, who was streaming that day =) It's fun to see the game from the other side's view
the videos are so much better when the pilot knows what they are doing
We love you Reid!
Every time I’m about to go sleep
liked this video before i started watching. watched the video. Need to be able to like a video again.
You provide the best content for this channel
Thanks again for the abzan video Duke!
2 dark confidants dug him through 6 lands......Oh myyyyyyy Gaaaaawd! value.
Love your content Reid! Man that humans players scooped fast, they still had outs both games
I'm an old player looking to get back in Magic, and I might invest in a Modern deck. If I do it will probably be Abzan. Some of my favorite colors, I like the play style, and this deck shares a lot of cards with Jund which could be nice if I wanted to go change it up in the future.
Abzan: done
Jund: done
Still BG rock/midrange to do please!
Yes pls
Don't forget my secret dream of sultai
That last opponent summarized all the unspoken things we all know to be true.
I don't know what would get cut, but is there any reason in particular that Knight of the Reliquary doesn't make the cut?
I think he wants the CMC to be as low to the ground as humanly possible. Another thing to note is Knight is GW. He has less green mana than black, and his white is kind of a splash color, with the only maindeck white spell being "lingering souls." Lastly, I think Tireless Tracker (which also doesn't make the cut) would probably be better here than Reliquary if you wanted a grindy, ever growing threat.
Thanks for the content! At 39:00 you were side boarding and said on the draw you want to go down to 3 bob and 3 Lilly’s, why is that?
That's not how you spell JUND
At 29:20 I'm wondering if it would have been better to play Liliana first even though you could not activate it. That puts the opponent in a position to use mana for mutavault activation and an attack with both their creatures means you could eat one and keep Lili at 1 loyalty. Is abzan without confidant worth trying out? Is tracker better, and like to take less damage, also enabling you to play 1 or 2 tasigurs?
Idk, tracker is way slower. Comes down a turn later and requires 5 total mana before you see your first extra card. It has some upside in grindier matchups for sure, but I feel like the deck already grinds super well.
M2 G2 against Humans any thought about blocking the lieutenant with Grim Flayer triggering revolt on Push to kill Staticaster? Then reload with Confidant
Hi Reid, great video! What is your point of view of Abzan instead of Jund in the actual metagame? Could you play it in a next GP for instance?
G2 against Storm...
I think that a viable play would've been to pop Spellbomb in response to the manamorphose, as that would throw them off their momentum for the Ascension.
And opponent missed the opportunity to go Manamorphose > Remand on it with an active Ascension.
Would co. Brutality mainboardable ?
2:01:50 I think you should use the spellbomb to stop the Ascension.
Yeah, I get wanting to save it for PiF, but I was yelling at my screen not popping it in response to Manamorphose with no mana left.
Wonder how this deck is with Assassin's trophie. That card and Tarmogoyf are actually very good friends + it's kinda like playing with a sideboard card in the main board.
Which lands does Reid use, Zendikar?
Why doesn’t no one put siege rhino in the deck?
When did Seige Rhino fall out of Modern and why? I know Abzan was king for at least a few months after Rhino's printing. What pushed it out?
It's too expensive. If bloodbraid elf is sometimes too slow, then siege rhino is definitely too slow. Shame though, as it is a really fun card.
I think fatal push pretty much murdered 4 drops. I know "dies to doomblade" is a bad argument but considering push is the most played removal in the format, skipping 4 and going straight to 5+ for your beefy creatures (Tasigur, Angler, etc) seems way better as it blanks a lot of mainboard removal.
woot woot abzan back!
When you drew the second Confidant against Humans I really feel the play should have easily been to jam it into the Staticaster to get Delerium.
For sure! He even mentions it in the video.
18:50 if you push the other seer can you cast the other push that you get back from exile on the other seer immediately ?
I'm amazed he missed that play
you dont get the card back from seer, you draw a card.
Curious why no tieless tracker in the 75, I’ve been finding it more impressive than dark confidant recently
At 25:00 couldn't you have blocked and sacked before damage?
could yes, but the opponent could have cast a TKS or smasher with a SSG that turn so its better to take out the sol land immediately.
Dremin2009 the white mana did matter tho
Obviously you would have to swap another GB land to a WB one to keep the mana ratios consistant
I think maybe the turn against Steel Overseer and Walking Ballista you could downtick Liliana. Liliana trades but you get to keep your two Spirit tokens, or opponent uses it and loses both creatures, but you still have your target removal
Can you believe people are disliking Ried’s vids
Last hope is really good against eldrazi stompy! you need a way to beat Eternal Scourge and she lets you continuously target it.
Is it completely ridiculous to think that storm could absolutely get away with a copy of banefire?
The first Stony vs Humans isn't terrible. You can get situations where 1 Stony is shutting off multiple Vials.
I believe shaun mclaren was your third opponent
I think it was right to slam confidant on T2 in that 3rd match. At worst, he played a steel overseer. Then you get to decay the overseer and start drawing cards. lingering souls will always beat bolt. Abzan forever!
This seems like a deck that would like to have a brimaz somewhere on the 75
Fatal push could have killed reflector mage because it bounced your confidant, that's interesting
Fun to watch your decks log through humans; Scavenging Ooze seems really good against that deck. Not sure about Dark Confidant
Reid! You said you hate path to exile in grindy, resource denial decks running LOTV, inquisition, dark confidant, fulminator mage etc.. What changed? Nice!
WOOHOO reid is the fucking GOAT
13 midrolls guys?
I see reid duke, i click
i am an abzan og all the way back to seige rhino
1:04:03 Opponent really should've send the 2nd freebooter to Liliana. That would've taken 1 counter off it and leave him in a much better situation.
There's no seige rhino i disapprove lol
Do another Mardu Pyromancer video, Reid!
yay reid!
I liked it better when it was called Junk or Rock
see Reid press Like
Keanu Reid
lol whats for dinner?????
tireless tracker > grim flayer
I think the idea behind the flayer, over tracker, is to make the deck a bit more aggressive. I'm guessing that's why you don't see things like siege rhino or tracker.

Tracker might be a good in sideboard. Hard to tell where it fits considering the curve Reid is using.
Should have made him sacrifice a creature with Lily not discard
Someone forgot to add Siege Rhinos to the deck.
Repost again? Plz no!

Someone donate this man a new computer, I can hear it crying in the background.
