- The 1966 comedy starring the English beat rock band, Herman's Hermits, as they travel to America for the first time. One of their stops is the (now defunct) Pacific Ocean Park (aka P.O.P.). Although some of the roller coaster scenes use a projection screen, there are plenty of great scenes of the coaster as well as various rides throughout the park.

This movie was never even nominated for an academy award . Why I shall never know .
I loved POP, my dad scared me so bad at 8 or 9 years old. The roller coaster 🎢 there was huge and went next to or over the ocean 🌊, my dad got the roller coaster attendant to let us go a second time around, because the 1st time scared me so bad, I was terrified, but then I calmed down and became a roller coaster enthusiast.❤
Awesome special effects
The real thing was heavenly before they let go down and upkeep
Am so grateful to live by POP every day♥️❣⚘🌹 👍🤗👍😆❣⚘🌹The good old days, we thought they'd never end. Bob Nelson if your out there....👍🌹⚘❣♥️👍
Used to go to P.O.P as a kid! Almost as fun as Disneyland. It was really fun riding the coaster out over the ocean!
Wow, first time I've seen a movie with POP in it I was lucky enough to live in this area of the country when this park was thriving. I was only out there for 3 years and went to not only POP, but Knotts Berry Farm and for my 7th birthday Disneyland! Thanks for posting a movie I'm sure I've seen but have forgotten about.
We lived in Venice when POP opened. I was about your age when we first went. Some of my best most innocent memories were of that place at that time. It was a magical place for a little boy. You could go in a booth and make a record of your voices which was cool.
One of the last episodes of The Fugitive was filmed here , also I think The Invaders was done here , also .
Mr Mitchell from Dennis the menace
Yes, that is Herbert Anderson. Also Bernard Fox, "Dr. Bombay" from "Bewitched".
If you look closely, the decay and rust are apparent in the sequence at the opening of this clip. It's too bad they could never make a go of it. Visible at 00:40 is a sign showing the 99-cent admission price - way too low if they wanted to keep the place up properly. [At the time, adult admission to Disneyland was $5.50.] The whole thing was shut down for good in 1967.
Love this scene from Hold On it cracks me up.
I have heard (and read) about this park (it shut down before I was old enough to remember it); looks like fun.
Like you could really take an ice cream cone on a roller coaster, LOL!
I got my mom on that rollercoaster , I couldn't get her to take me on it again.
Dennis the menace's father looks like he enjoyed himself lol.
I suppose all that fabulous modern architecture is gone now.
Gone like it never existed.
It was a nice park at one time. Excellent dark rides with clever designs when it first opened but it all went into disrepair quickly. Dark rides became dysfunctional dark rooms.
Stupenda
That should be "long defunct," not "now defunct." Pacific Ocean Park was shut down in 1967, after being in operation for nine years(1958); it simply couldn't compete with Disneyland, which was the huge money-maker in Southern California since 1955, the year Disneyland opened.
They had plenty of business , it was located in downtown Santa Monica, which led to street crimes and drug sells overflowing into the park. Long Beach Pike would remain open for 12 more years after this place closed down. And it thrived even with Disneyland and Knott's Berry farm and Magic Mountain close by. Beach carnivals have a much different vibe than the mega theme parks and they still do good today. The Santa Cruz Boardwalk is still going strong decades later and they still pack them in even during the Covid era.
I have the vinyl LP- never saw it. I remember there was a " film" compiling The Beatles and Hermans Hermits and others titled Go Go Mania in the 60s- repeated on US TV early 70s . Is the film " Hold On" cause Peter is riding the roller coaster lol?
(showing my age here ) OMG, that totally looks like Marion Ross in the back seat of the roller coaster (Richies Mom on Happy Days). I really think it is her. Wow. (and I didn't spoil anything, see how nice I am?) :)
haaaa....you might be right.
I googled her and 1966, and now I have doubts. Oh well, feeling relieved that another old guy gets and understands me. :)
Either way, happy days are found in the back seat of a Miller
You must still be addicted to LSD if you think that! Stupid Baby Boomer moron! 😠
It's funny how the guys in the band are wearing suits at an amusement park!
@Teremi Nándor 66
His hat must be on real tight lol
2:35 Just a thought here. Shelley Fabares is one hot hottie and I am wondering what she is doing at the park all by herself?
Damn That Walt Disney
wait, this guy had his lap bar on like the other people, how did he do that?? there is lap bars, and how the girl not fly off to since is lap bar was opened??
How come she’s worn a suit it must be 80° out I won’t wear a suit
