Welcome back to the house, I'm glad to finally making some progress again. In this video I do something I would not normally recommend and do my own concrete work. Using bags of 80 pound quickcrete mix, I pour a basement floor.

there is now a simplisafe uk, does your code work over here
Lol while watching your simplisafe ad, a news bulletin came across my phone about how your security camera can help solve crimes😁
Congratulations on the reason for your tiredness. Blue or pink?
I love following this house! Why didn't you lay a vapor barrier? Sorry, I had audio off while watching.
@@stephendallasdraws2929 Vapour barrier goes on interior walls to prevent water vapour penetrating the walls and condensing in the insulation leading to rot. Damp-proof membrane goes under your concrete to prevent ground moisture penetrating through the concrete (and presumably becoming water vapour inside the house).
Vapour barrier and dpm are not the same, and you cannot correctly use one for the other.
However, we are told that if there any gaps, tears, un-taped joins in the dpm, it is useless. So if you are only patching a part of your floor, and the rest does not have dpm, there is really no point putting plastic under one part.
In a job like this one, it makes sense to get the concrete down, then seal the whole floor and walls with water seal.
"I think we have just enough concrete, or a tad too much, or not enough." This is me on any job estimating materials lol
Me tooo. Haha. My husband is all professional and precise, and I'm like looks good ok let's do this. He is lime🤦♂️😄🤷♀️
I really chuckled at that little funny. 🤣
me when i’m cooking lmao
Me when trying to figure out how much mortar I'll need for a stone wall/patio 😂
Same. I always say stuff like this or I'll make sure to add "I think" just to make sure no one holds me being wrong against me
Blocky will never be able to dig his way out through that concrete layer. RIP Blocky. 🇬🇧
He got the Jimmy Hoffa treatment and no mistake.
I still think a marker or monument to Blockie is in order. 🤔 🤣
😂
LOL!
That block has given me anxiety, screw that block!
This guy: "I should have watched a video before I did this."
Also this guy: (makes the perfect concrete floor)...
I'm so glad we whined enough. I'm emotionally invested in this home
Right? About time. Plus he will make much more revenue off of these house videos.
Chi I be so upset not getting updates. And please don't let me get the update while at work about "our " $9,000 house.... I'm upset I can't watch it until I get off.
Same
Me to !!!
It's 8pm. I'm halfway through a 24h shift. I'm watching this. Right now. I'm calling this my lunch break.
Love this guy. He works night and day for his family. 100 percent self made. It’s great to watch. Keep up the content brother!!
Just wanted to leave a note of appreciation for the music you've chosen.
Yes just the right 👍choice on the music!!
I get quite saddened when there's no music..or its weird music :)
Friend of mine had this saying..."that's another job, that I will NEVER do again!!" Seems like the right thing to say after a job such as that concrete floor. Still, better job than I could have done, so hats off to you!
The sort of job that, if you knew then what you know now, you might not have undertaken it.
He's alive!!!!
Just a little word of encouragement. I started flipping houses at 18 while working full time. If it got done on the house, I was the one that did it. Once I FINALLY broke into the income level to get some help on them I shifted to buying fixing and renting. I'm now 37 and have 150 units and feel bad about not working much anymore, but I am able to be so involved with my wife and kids now. I felt that look on your face in my soul. I know that "tired all the time" feeling. It isn't so much physical as it is mental. Stay with it bud. You are making moves in life right now that you cant really see until a few years down the road but when they come they will be so worth it.
He buries the remains of his one true enemy in respect, but also to keep the enemy forever entombed deep below the confides of his house.
Thats how we do it in the good ol' USA
Can you imagine being haunted by a concrete block :D
Congrats on the new addition! The floor looks awesome. I was wondering how you were going to flow the different levels in the basement. Projects will always be there. Littles are only little for a short time. And wife needs the support. Family is why you are doing this, take care of yourselves first.
I'm imagining the future tenets playing beer pong in that room and one kid saying, "My landlord buried his enemy under this floor."
Haha if you’re alluding to having a kid as the reason to being so tired all the time, congrats man! I know first hand how hard it gets to accomplish day to day things let along bigger projects such as this!
I'm pretty sure he already had one kid, maybe a new one? haha
@Seth love your picture of you and your daughter ❤️
@@Jasonoid Yes, he's got a daughter, who appears to be 3-4 y.o. We've seen her (well, her little hand anyway) in a couple videos.
How did you know that I was whining about not having new videos from you?
Seriously, I absolutely love watching you problem solve and restore these old houses.
If you decide that you are too tired to fix up these old houses, I don't know what I will do.
I might have to get a life!!!!
Thanks for the video. See you in two weeks.
Had a boy for two and a half years now and can totally relate. Especially the beginning can be hard. Wish you and your family the best and thank you for your great videos.
I have two boys, 3 and 7. Still bloody hard 😂
Congrats on the new edition!! No excuses needed family first!!
Must admit, I am *slightly* ashamed of how loud I shouted YAAAAAAS when I saw this in my sub box.
Only slightly though. Great job on the concrete,
I think the concrete floor looks good! I am impressed, again, at how many things you can do and how well you can do them! Thanks for showing us!
Glad to see your videos again. Congrats on the "life event". I remember those days.
My favourite channel. I love his get up and go attitude, and his sense of humour of course! : )
This looks so much better than a rough dirt floor! “Bye” forever old chimney stump!!!😉
“But that’s a fool talking” 🤣 But seriously, no fool here. You are truly amazing! 🥰
Great job on the floor!
I've seen Many videos of concrete pros making everything look easy. But I Really appreciate seeing a non-pro, without all the proper tools and expertise, work concrete. Gives me a better idea of what to expect if I were to ever attempt this myself.
I'm so glad that you are working again on this house, I really enjoy this videos, I do understand you have other more important priorities, please take care.
Where you been? Thought you
Gave up on us. Glad to see you & your handywork. Thanks 🌟
As an aircraft structural mechanic I would like to observe that their is nothing more relaxing than watching someone else do the dirty work. Well, unless their effing it up, then my anxiety level pegs out. Love your work and am always following, and the music is great!
Congratulations on you and your wife’s new life event!!!
This is like something I'd do. Invest in the tools and buy all the cement and spend countless hours breaking my back on it. Rather than calling up a concrete guy who shows up with a truck and is done in 4 hours. But at least we've got the memories, right!?
That and you've saved a ton of money.
we all do it, don't worry
@@theropesofrenovation9352 bag mix concrete is more expensive per yard.
@@beechw9133 Not when you add the cost of labor on top of it.
This has a word for it. It's called a man.
Wow! This was certainly a labor of love. I know you mentioned you are feeling burnt out by this house by my goodness you are resilient. So excited to watch this video today! GREAT WORK!
Also, congrats! As a father of four (7, 5, 2, and 6 months) I agree, I’m tired all the time. 😅
The admixture you're thinking of are plasticizers. They're great, because they increase the slump while the concrete is wet, but don't decrease the strength. Fly ash also does great for that while diverting a waste stream.
nerd
@@BlackJesus8463 Guilty as charged.
"Just enough concrete, or a tad too much, or not enough." 😎🤩 Was kinda sad to see the last of that cement column, but it's doing a much better job now than it did before! You have made this basement into clean, bright, USABLE space. So important for storage, workspace, train set - you name it.
Love how humble you are and your willingness to share your insight. Congratulations on the addition to your family. Have a great day!!
Thanks for this latest video. Not sure why exactly, but watching you do your thing is not only enjoyable but also is a sign of positive activity. Your good personality is also a plus, and transforming a wreck of a place into a nice functional environment is totally refreshing. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, and for the inspiration. Keep up the good work, and take all the time you need to refresh yourself, stay balanced, and have a happy life with your loved ones. Kudos
Like an old construction worker, looking forward to your videos every time. I have often had to work with the same problems and it always comes down to more and heavier work than you thought in the beginning. Man you're doing it perfectly I'm already looking forward to the next one, pay a little more attention to yourself.
Sounds like you and your wife had another baby? If so, congratulations. Wishing you well.
I have watched you work on some mind numbing, back breaking projects. This beats drywall finishing to the “get the professionals in” post. God bless you for giving it a go!
"A haunting reminder of what happened down here!"
You got that right. The vision of the carnage still haunts my dreams.
The sledgehammer.
The relentless pounding... pounding... pounding...
Then buried beneath the earth!
@@StainSocial You know, it's going to haunt the house. :-)
the telltale block.
My favorite was the sledge descending from the ceiling for a few whacks. 😂
That was an epic battle, to be sure!
always amazed at how hard you work, picks, shovels, etc...like the energizer bunny
I have been watching these videos on the $9,000 house since the very first one, and I can now truly appreciate how hard working you are, the range of skills and ingenuity that you have, and your ability to invent solutions to a wide range of challenges. It must have taken thousands of hours, plus all the taping and editing. At first the inside just seemed like a forest of timber, but as the work has gone on, I keep thinking of the family who will live here because what you are really creating is a home that is safe and sound, functional and attractive. Great job.
Yay, you're back. So glad to see an update on your 9,000 dollar house.
Watching you on this video reminds me of how arduous cement work is, even with truck delivery, and how a body suffers from it. I don't miss it one bit! And I'm thinking you're probably very glad to have that particular project done!
I just did a 5'x4' section of concrete on my patio after a contractor left me high and dry. It took 12 80lbs bags of concrete and 6 50lbs bags of gravel. I felt you when you said lifting it onto the cart, lifting it into your vehicle, lifting it out of your vehicle, lifting it into the mixer, and moving it with the wheel barrow. That's 1200lbs+ being lifted 5 times. It was very hard work, but it felt very rewarding after it was done. I cannot believe how much work goes into such a small patch of concrete. Yours was probably 6x the size of my job.
I adore your videos of this house! What a fantastic series. Thank you so much for sharing yet another milestone here. I can't wait for the finale, but please take your time on your list; it's easy to get burnt out on projects, even when they are ones that we love and enjoy working on... Good vibes to you and your kin, Homemade Home!!!!
Great job mate. Best of all, I love your accent. You are an hard working person and your knowledge is extensive. Well done. Keep it up.
We have missed your videos, and we're delighted to watch whatever project you're working on. However, you do have a life... and that is your first priority... understandably so. By the way, you did a great job on that concrete. Take care, and God be with you.
I know all too well what it's like to burn out!! I take my tired butt out to the woods where there is a nice creek going through...I sit there and recharge...i do this for 2 days...then i feel good again. Don't forget to take time out for you. Wish you well.
I remember doing concrete that way. That is a workout for sure. But getting it done ✔ 👌
For not being an expert on concrete, you sure did nice work!! Congrats...sounds like God has the blessed you with more children/ growing your family!! 👶👨👩👧👦❤
Double the views in 4 days compared to the recent house build videos. Stick to what we all came here for. Watching you doing your renovation magic.
Good to see you back in action
Looking forward to the sheet-rock transformation of the interior spaces... the kitchen ... the floors. The transformation is the thing!
Wondering why no vapor barrier under the concrete! Here in south Louisiana, it'd be so necessary to keep water from weeping up through the concrete.
Thanks for your channel.
I have almost no expertise here except for paying attention to the water around my house, but the $9,000 house is on a steep hill, which might help a lot with drainage and water levels. Could still have problems though, depending on grading, gutters, and drainage.
Yeah, the hill site helps with drainage, no doubt. Also, depending on the area, it could be that a vapor barrier simply isn't needed.
If you're in southern Louisiana, you have a very high water table, while also sporting a very hot and humid climate, causing indoor concrete to sweat a lot if it has no vapor barrier (or below-slab insulation, which hardly no one down there thinks about for some reason). For this house-and I think it's in Kentucky (?)-the water table isn't nearly as high, and it doesn't get as hot and humid as Louisiana does.
That was so therapeutic to watch, smoothing that concrete, the lovely music...perfect. And you did a great job. You DO look exhausted, congratulations on the new baby, they grow fast but don't sleep through fast enough! Thanks for the video when you could have had some sleep instead.
The reverent music while filling the stump hole in...... classic.
Dude that floor looks amazing you never give yourself enough credit you do everything you do to perfection Ive been watching for a long time
Well worth the effort you put into every episode of this house and the other houses! Thank you! Amazing to watching you DIY this one, extremely impressed!!
This was so satisfying to watch! You did great job, it looks thousand miles better.
I was just wondering when you were going to post again. I started rewatching the last video. Lol great timing and great job on the floor. We poured our barn in 3 sections. It was rough but better than a huge pour all at once.
Great work. Can't wait for the paint. Everything will look spit spot. Blessings to you and your family.
Looks like you learned how to do concrete by trowel and error!
that was funny Sam.
@@homemadehome5575 it’s good to have you back, Grant!
Fall is here and he's back in Git-er-done mode. Nice to see you friend.
A vapour barrier under the slab is a missed opportunity. Quick, cheap and easy. Stellar work and kudos for tackling the project!
Really miss these videos being a regular thing.
I respect such a hard worker. Thank you for sharing!
Those floors were crazy looking!! Great job putting this house back together piece by piece 👏🏼
GREAT seeing you again! This house is going to look fabulous when you're done with it! Don't know how you'll be able to top it!
I feel like I haven’t seen your videos come up in a hot min - have to catch up now :)
Enjoy
@F. A. That's a RUclips thing, not the channel.
@F. A. Okay. So you are saying that the RUclips provided ads are not from RUclips? There was a SimpliSafe that he did in the middle, but you aren't talking about that, are you?
@F. A., That said, he’s never been shy about the fact that RUclips is also a way to make money for him. You know he’s all about the side hustle. So I’m not surprised if he did choose to add multiple ads. The number of people who will still watch his content with ads is worth it even if he loses a few viewers who don’t want to sit through the ads.
@F. A. I just take my phone in the kitchen in the beginning to get something to snack on Then settle down in my chair to watch, Your younger than me I can tell. Relax man.
Welcome back. Been wondering how things were, but figured you'd been busy, as many of us have been this time of year.
Finally, I love these videos! You're great at making these DIY videos!
Glad to see you're back at producing content! Hope everything is going smoothly for you.
I’m impressed on the cement work you did. I know what you mean about being tired all the time. I have a different yet similar kind of busy helping my parents with their properties and keeping my own afloat. Can be tricky sometimes. Let me just say, I appreciate the videos whenever you find the time. Best wishes!
My husband's a UPS driver. what you described at 22:10 is his every day.
Keep your content going and the good work! I love what you do and your explanations along. This video reminds me when I helped my dad over 25years ago when casting a concrete slab in an over 200 years + stone farm house in France. Thank you.
Yes!! I’ve been waiting!
👏👏👏👏 this video made my day! I am up right now in the middle of the night with our own little bundle of joy. 😄
I can relate! From experience, I've found it helps to schedule a concrete specialist to review the job before pouring, and let them decide how to proceed. For example, you mentioned you could have poured the concrete down the truck's chute and finished the job much faster.
Concrete truck drivers are typically very experienced and skilled with metering the amount of concrete that reaches the chute. And, gravity is a major factor to consider, and harness if possible.
We invited several neighbors to help with a new basement floor, and the pumper man ended up doing a superb job all by himself + the concrete truck driver. The pumper man had simply instructed me to snap a chalk line, to define the final elevation of the finished floor. None of the neighbors was needed.
DIY newcomers very often underestimate the amount of physical work that is required to transport concrete any distance, as you mentioned at the end. You look like a very healthy and strong man, and yet you ended up "tired all the time". Not good, especially because prolonged fatigue can induce poor decision making.
Bottom Line: BEST WAY is knowing when to hire specialists to do what they already know how to do best. This is particularly important whenever Code/permit inspectors must be satisfied.
After a bit of a rough day you have no idea how nice it was to see this video pop up in my notifications.
Nice job! Your jack of all trades skills are impressive.
ITS WRONG WRONG ITS ALL WRONG!!!! .... I guess i should watch the video now ... hey nice to see you back... you need to set up some winter projects it will be here soon.
Omg I was thinking about this series today and now here it is ❤️
Wow! Glad to see an update! Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you! Missed these videos
Welcome back, missed your vids about this house.
Great job again
Can’t wait to see how it turns out
Sleep deprivation.. those were the days!
Have fun. As they say.. the days are long, but the years are short!
I know the new project is far more exciting for you right now but I am so happy to be back with you in this house. As someone who wants to one day work on her own renovations and homeowning: it feels like I'm following my uncle and learning all the necessary info on proper (and inproper) skills. Thank you so much for the new video! :)
Awesome job on the concrete, so smooooth!
I have said it before and will again "you sir, are a one man construction crew". Your work ethic is simply astounding.
One comment I have, do you not need a gravel base and vapor barrier first? Before rebar and cement.
That was a lot of work ! Looks great !
That floor looks fantastic now!! I love your sarcasm in this. I hope you get more rest in the coming future. You are a force to be reckoned with, more power to you. Will you patch some on the walls down there before you paint again? The new floor takes the "creepy feel" out of the basement now. Great job. Peace and Good Fortune and Good Health to you and your family.
You are such a hard worker! You have done wonders with this house--I have enjoyed all your videos and have even learned quite a bit from them all--thank you!!!
So glad to see you back here. Much better!
Great job, thanks for the videos .
floor turned out juuus fine!
congratulations on your new exhaustion. when you turn around & see how fast it went, watch out for that damn throat lump...
God bless.
I'm glad 9000 is back, it's my emotional support home renovation project
I can’t believe how awesome you did at that saying you didn’t think you’d be able to get it smooth and not really done it before looks really good ! Glad to have the vids back hopefully another one soon for this project !!
Hello, so nice to see you back.. Thank you for making the time and congratulations on the new bundle of mischief.
LOVE the music. Totally not distracting. Beautiful, too.
Looks really good....great improvement
Congratulations on your life event! How amazing you could make a concrete floor at the same time. Not all hero's wear capes. Take it easy 🤩
It's great to see a renovation video again. I do enjoy the content on your new build, but I enjoy this more as you've always served as a bit of an inspiration for me during my current, mostly solo, DIY full renovation. Keep up the awesome work, and the down to earth discussion around it.
Looks great buddy
