In Episode 21 I avoid the Corona virus by keeping my nose to the grindstone. To distract myself from the end of the world, I decide to tear up the side porch on the house, replacing the roof and foundation. This renovation has clearly gone far, much further than I wanted but that seems to be the pattern for me.

"Tear it off and replace it with a simple, open deck/porch" is exactly what I was thinking. But what you got done is a big improvement. Getting the bushes out of there helps a lot, too.

I agree. I would, however, add a little stoop with steps, pulling out the old cement steps. It's hard to open a door when you can't back up except to go back down the stairs. If you're carrying groceries, etc., in, this can be a hassle. But he's doing a great job!!

I would still build a roof over the deck, but extend it a couple, feet beyond the lines of the sidewall.I have successfully. built wood steps right around crummy old concrete steps like that .

Your videos on the $9,000.00 house are great. I didn't follow much of your last house remodel. But, I saw enough of it. You are inspiring. I feel guilty that I have not even begun a remodel of my present house & home. I'm retired in Virginia. However, when I was a little younger, I did a remodel of our house in London, England. That was very satisfying. It was a mess when I began the project. But it was a Show Home, once I had finished. That was many years ago and three wives back. I left it for my British wife and two kids. I went back to work in America, after taking a year to remodel the house.

Different part of the country folks. In his area, there is no frost heaving. I live in the Deep South...and my water lines are 18 INCHES down. No need for anything deeper. It doesn't freeze here often, and the ground simply doesn't freeze deeper than about 6"-8" in any given year. He set it in clay soil. It's dense, heavy and does not move.Essentially, he set it on brick clay. BTW, my water lines have held with no issues for over 30 years. They're PVC, so you know that I should have had issues...but I haven't.

Please don't put carpet on the patio! just use a wood laminate or something! That kinda space is a pain to vacuum and would be easier if you could just sweep.

Nice that the weather is good for you to actually be out and do some of this stuff. Keep up the good work.

You are doing an awesome job with this house. Under that porch would be a nice place to put garden tools or lawnmower. Extra storage.
