    We watch each and every one of your episodes. what Brand wood treatment preservative are you using on the bottom portion of your exterior wood? I built my own 3500 sq ft house back when I was in my forties. We did every bit of the work ourselves except drilling the 31 bell bottom piers for the foundation. We did the all the concrete slab, framing, stucco, spanish clay tile roof, plumbing, electrical, and cabinets from scratch. We even made all our own trim moulding with a Craftman planer moulder. I'll be 70 in a few days and I am trying to slow down a bit. I blame This Old House and New Yankee Workshop for making do all that.

    I am in the process of redoing ONE room in my apartment... I have always been in awe of how much energy you're putting into this... now even more so. I've been obnoxious about how Americans build their houses but I must say remodeling a house on the level you're doing on a house built like the one I live in is... well not impossible but certainly an order of magnitude harder on a body and the wallet.
    So I appreciate the building style more now. It may not be as... sturdy? as I'm used to but it's for sure a whole lot more flexible.

    • @StefanMalic
      @StefanMalic 4 года назад

      A friend is remodeling his apartment currently. For the bathroom, he had to use an impact drill and drill the tiles off, as well as parts of walls and the floor to expose the pipes as he needs access to them. The amount of dust was unreal. Luckily he's in shape, so his body held up, but it was taxing on the body nonetheless. So in times like these, I envy the Americans for their style of building.

    I think you did a great job on the balance of the railings. It looks very good. Sometimes when you overdo the trim out it never looks good. You definitely struck the right balance. Try to save those bushes. Trim them back a bit and fertilize. i think you should consider a trim color to set off some of the trim. A nice forest green over white might look good. I really like the slanted steps, sort of enchanting. Keep up the good work. I learn from each of your videos.

People don't realize how hard a remodel is! I have 2 rental properties and I'm thinking about selling them. and also the house I live in. I own 3 acres from where i live its 6 miles down the road. And its a secluded property, One I look forward to building for myself and my daughter. I'm divorced and I've taken care of my daughter since she was 2. I can't wait to build a stick built cabin. I think there is a reason you very rarely see HD or Lowes sponsor RUclipsrs. For one thing, it's not really needed for them since HD and Lowes are a lot of people's only options. Additionally, a lot of RUclipsrs, including this one, don't do everything exactly as it "should" be and I don't think they would want to deal with any issues that come from that.

    Nice to see quality building on these hand rails. Our old house I leaned on the rail one night and it collapsed sending me ass over tea kettle into a rose bush. My dad looked the next day and the rail was built with nothing but small nails. No screws or anything except what was holding it to the posts. I just happened to be the first unlucky sap to lean on it.

    Really appreciated seeing your process for the hand rails. Looks great! One suggestion for the balusters would've been to create a roundover profile on the corners, although I can appreciate keeping it simple. Curious to know how long treating the ends with that stuff will last. I've had to repair all three of my patio post bottoms from rot (same style you took out - rotted only on the front sides from rain). To make it more bulletproof, I cut out the sections containing the rot, patched with treated lumber and coated the bottom end grain with epoxy before installing. Probably overkill but I don't want to have to do it again. :)

    haha "90210" as the zip in Policy Genius promo. Great video as usual - watching you is just kind of relaxing. Glad to see these coming out more regularly again.

    You can always paint the railing neon yellow then it would really pop against a white house.

    I primed all my railing components before assembling. It made painting a little bit easier.

    Great video. It is nice to stay on one topic and learn something. Also the lack of music and just work sounds makes the video more relaxing to watch somehow. It reminds me of the earlier 12k house videos.

    i also agree on ripping out the bushes, and vote to stain the wood a very dark color to contrast the white, would look like a nice modern farmhouse.
