      Since most other headphones have an exaggerated stereo image, perhaps not having it at all can help better…

    I haven't tried these in years but to those that say how "shrill" and "lacking low end" these are (which from memory i would agree with), maybe that's the point. If you can get it to sound good in these, they will sound good everywhere. End of the day it's about translation...or Andrew has robot years

    This is not to brag but only as an indication: Everything I do I only ever mixed on 7506s. My records (under various aliases and different genres) get airplay on radios like BBC's 1xtra and by serious club DJs. They work. I don't use big speakers.

    I've used these from 1995-2005. Used to like them until I learned better. The biggest problem is the forward upper mids. Way too shouty and makes mixing on them impossible. Spend some money and get the LCD X 2021. Huge difference maker.

    Can anyone explain what correction software is and where one can get it? Thanks

    • @AlonsoJoaquinComposer
      @AlonsoJoaquinComposer Месяц назад

      He's talking about correcring the freq response for certain headphones. Some boost lows too much, or highs, etc. For production you want them to be as flat as possible to properly judge your mixes. As for software there's no 1 specific program that's used to do this.

    Been using Sony mdr7509 hd who are similar to these basically upgraded version, i found them very hard to mix on took me a very long time to get used to , but i did get used to them , than i bought akg k701 it was like night and day i found my headphones at last , never went back to monitors i occasionally mix on Sony's when i dont have Akg with me and it takes a while to get used to the bright tone 😀 i use no software eq spatial crossfeed any of that , and my question for Andrew is do you still mix Dolby Atmos with Sony's after you upgraded your Speakers.

    Lesson from this is to use what you’re used to, because MDR 7506 are shrill metallic thin sounding as fuck- doubt most people could mix on these properly. Any beginner buying them inspired by Scheps is gonna be highly disappointed by how they sound.

    • @Bati_

      The thing is everything is about the brain. As long as you familiarize yourself with any close level of headphone, it does not matter, at the end of the day you are receiving the sound that your brain interprets not the absolute truth.

    Bought these the other day (after viewing Al's puremix vid talking w/ whatshisface). Anywho, the highs/brightness nearly cut my eardrum out! 😳🙉 Had to switch back to my trusted AKG 240s.
    Perhaps one day I'll become tuned to the SMDR7506s 🤷🏾‍♂️.

      I had the V6's years ago. Those were easier to mix on. But then I was just doing board mixes on the side while I was doing live sound at various nightclubs.
      Also did a few band demos that way, back when band demos on cassette or CDR were super common. But for anything else please give me some K240!

      If you’re younger, I feel like some of that definitely has to do with age. You hear more of those highs than someone older! Funny how our ears are better when we’re younger, but we don’t know how to use them as well in this regard.

  • @NullStaticVoid
    @NullStaticVoid 2 года назад

    I've always found them to be shrill and lacking in low end.
    They are great for live sound, but in the studio?
    I've never been able to make judgement from those.
    AKG K240M or Beyer DT770 are easier.
    I get that a lot of people are used to these.
    When I've worked in live sound, film or TV production and broadcast you are always seeing these around.
    I think they were one of the first durable, folding headphones that were widely available. There is nothing special about them. Just like the standard monitors, these are accidents of history.
    Suppose it could be said that the forward upper mids help to keep you from even thinking about pushing any EQ in that area. Which is a good habit to cultivate!

      @@middlesidetopwisethe guy with the grammys has great ears and he can be confident his mixes will translate (and there's simply no way he's not checkin in a control room), that's why he uses them, cause he doesn't trust them, he just knows what's really going on. having a nice control room that you can 100% trust is way better and faster.

    These headphones are just not good with mixing and I don’t like how it sounds anyway. No disrespect to Andrew but the DT770 and ATH M40X are the two I wouldn’t think twice in grabbing for headphones under $200.
