This is exactly what I have been looking for . Things I loved about this review :
1. Very natural and friendly . It didn’t have that RUclips “ over the top omg subscribe to me “ feel! 2. Excellent reviews of the products broken down into categories and multiple applications . 3. Clear and concise . 4. This is how RUclips vids should be done . Automatically had to subscribe 👍🏻🥇
So happy that you appreciate my hard work. Thanks!
Sanjay C thank you for all that you do !
So which one you choose?
Thanks to this video I purchased my first set of Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 Ohm. They sound totally amazing, your reviews were on point with this. I have been looking at reviews for weeks trying to find the right headphones and I have to say the DT770 PRO is wonderful. Again, thank you Sanjay for this video.
The DT 990 Pro’s are my favorite. They have such a great flavor that makes listening to mixes really enjoyable. I constantly go back and forth between the 990’s and my Senn HD 600’s for mixing and pleasure and then I have a pair of ATH-M50x’s for tracking.
What is tracking exactly?
This channel is severely underrated

Hey @Gab! How are you doing?
Thank you so much, Clature.exe! I really appreciate that compliment :-)

You are brilliant, SanjayC! Your review of the top studio headphones is comprehensive, unbiased, and you’ve provided a great price range. Thanks for doing all the research.

Very kind of you.

@@LabSoundRecords I'm planning on getting the beyerdynamic DT 770 the whole description of it sounded so interesting especially when he said that they can last for long sessions because I spend hours on music

@game GOD Deez nutz
i just bought the Audio Technica ATH-M50x ,fantastic ! perfect for long time mixing with not disturbing the neighbours when u wanna want to hear the base in the mix at dracula hour
6:04 Apart from the excellent airy, spacious sound they give, I've found the open backed DTs to be far less fatiguing than fully closed headphones, and the velour covered pads make them even more comfortable. This is a major plus in long sessions.
are open back headphones okay if ill be recording guitar and vocals with an xlr microphone?
DTs impedence is to high 250 ohms. You will not hear any noise, if there is any. I am happy with Audio Technica. I have 4 of them: 2x M50xBT (for playback), 1x M50x (for post production), 1x M70x (for field production - noise catcher).
The DT990 has a huge treble peak lmao, what? They’re literally one of the most fatiguing headphones you can use. I have the dt770, which have less treble then the DT990, and they’re extremely fatiguing without EQ. They’re not a good headphones for mixing because they aren’t flat at all. You need actually flat headphones for mixing, like the DT880, or the sennheiser HD600, 6XX, or HD560s. The DT770 especially is not good for mixing at all. They’re designed for monitoring. They’re completely coloured in sound signature, have way to much bass, and way to much treble. If you mix on them, your mix will probably end up sounding very mid forward.
@@enlistenmusic1719 Who are you replying to?
@@Teeb2023 Well I mean you mentioned that the open back DT headphones weren’t fatiguing, so I figured you were referring to the 990s. If you weren’t though, then that’s my bad. But if you were referring to the 990s, they’re actually very fatiguing and not great for mixing.
Finally. A true tech reviewer.. Sooo glad i found u.. I was just looking for a good over ear headphones... Wow.. U are a pro dude! Great work..
I bought the Neumann NDH-20 when I bought a Moog Grandmother. I wanted something that could handle the Moog and my other analog instruments without fatiguing my ears. They are the best headphones that I've heard in 35 years. They are near perfect in every way. My ears used to growl like a bear after listening to music for a couple of hours. Now they purr like a kitten.
I forgot the Neumann thnx for reminding me bro.
Thinking of these for editing audio(voice over). Still like them?

@Gerald, how were the Russian subtitles? Any good?
Sanjay C I have no clue. I put them on because they were there, not because I read Russian. 🤣
I watched several videos off late whilst buying Audio Interface & microphones. I'd admit, you have some of the best content out there on recording, mixing and audio instruments. You deserve more viewership - keep up excellent work!

Well done. I agree this channel is underrated. Very comprehensive video. The information we get are so Pro. Quality video. Hope to see more subscribers, to give this channel good justice.
I love this video. You’re the only audio reviewer who seems to explain and describe things well. Subbed. Also, I’ll let you know how the dt 990 pros are!
Thank you so much for the kind words
I Current already have the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro’s and I am glad I got them. They sound so amazing and I wouldn’t switch back under any circumstance. It is an amazing pair of headphones and I am glad Sanjay thought so too :D
They’re 100000% recommendable
Hey Jochem! Glad you agree with my recommendation. Have you ever tried the 770s? Curious what you think of them
Hi I'm thinking of getting these as well. Do you use a amp to power them? I have a ni audio 6 and wondered if this is enough . I hear so many mixed opinions
I've ATH-50x & I respect your opinion because I've the same issue.❤️
Thanks, Saíkat. Have you tried any of the others in this list?
@@SanjayC Nope, I'll try some in future.
This is the only channel that has the most detailed explanation on buying studio headphones. Others only explain the aesthetics this and aesthetics that and no how the audio would turn out if I use the headphones on an actual audio mixing, editing, and mastering. It is so frustrating. But thank God I click your video! You are a life saver! I am now planning on buying a Sony MDR 7506 because my Marshall Major II is a POS. I have been fooled because of the brand named Marshall. Thank you very much! I gave your video a 👍
So happy I could be of help! Thanks!
@@SanjayC Yep! It sure did! I am using the 7506 now alright. And I just found out a very important reminder too! That there are dozens of counterfeits that's been selling in ebay and amazon. It'll be better if you could try mentioning the issue on your next video. You got a new subscriber in me too.
Bro, you’re goated. Especially with the chapters feature. Thank you
I appreciate that :-)
Thank you for this video. I have Sony mdr’s now and I can’t ever go back🙏🏽👍🏽
Great to hear!
There’s a subset of people who swear that the current M40x’s beat the M50x’s and are lighter/more comfortable and are cheaper. You should do a head-to-head
Good idea!
On top of the weight/comfort/price benefit mentioned above, the main selling point of interest to readers of this channel would be the more neutral sound of the M40x which makes them good for mixing. I also find them great for casual music listening. Overall, I think these are a great value pick.
I'm also interested. Haven't listened to the m50x, but I own the m40x.
They have a pretty neutral sound with sweet mids. Not a flat sound, rather a balanced sound between detailed listening and fun. These headphones are also great for on the go.
bought the DT 990 Pro and i loooooove them
thank you
I know I’ve commented this before on his other videos, but Sanjay seems so nice, both on RUclips and irl. His content is so helpful and wholesome. keep up the great work! :)
Thanks a ton
I sold some gear and bought the Neumann headphones. I am traveling away from home for an extended time and in my effort to bring the most compact recording setup I needed headphones that could do double duty - tracking and mixing. The sound stage on the Neumann's are amazing! I have the Sonorworks software too so hopefully I will be able to get accurate mixes with these. We will see. My previous mixing headphones I bought a bazillion years ago, the AKG Q701. I hate headphones so I don't use them that often, but now that I won't have a speaker options I thought better headphones were in order.
not sure how I managed to miss this gold mine of a channel but I subbed before the intro ended. Very excited to see your other videos. thanks for the great quality and detail!:)
@SanjayC this! 🙌🏾💕
🤔Which one is your favorite? Comment below!
I use the Beyerdynamic 80 ohm version and Audio Technica M50x with my Komplete Audio 2. Absolutely love both of them.
@Krogan, Nice combo!
I like the 770's alot. I also own the 880 pro which many reviewers recommended over the 990's because its more neutral. The high's are a bit much. But still realistic to my ears.
Bro you should have checked Samson sr850 .. they are open back for just 30$ and has very good reviews .. better than oneaudio .. significantly.. do check it brother...
LOVE AKG! I have 'ks' headphones, cheap but fantastic only problem is you can wear them for more than 3 hours. (due to uncomfort)
BEST VIDEO EVER! Thank you SanjayC! I can finally pick a pair of headphones 😃
Thanks! Glad it helped you!
I own the audio technica ath-m50x and i absolutely love them! They are so comfy and i didn’t have to charge them for a month! The sound quality is great aswell.
Nice choice!
I have a DT770 pro 250 ohms and it works just fine with my iPhone and android at medium volume levels. If u want high volume then amp is definitely needed which I eventually got.
Not only did this video help me choose my next set of headphones, but it mos def educated me on so many aspects from different headphones! Thank you!
So happy to hear that!
one minute into the video, thumbs up, professionally done!!!
This channel is the jewel in rough. Subscribed for more.
Many thanks!
Great reviews! A few months ago I picked up the Beyerdynamic 770’s based upon your recommendation. They are phenomenal! Super comfortable and you can hear a pin drop. They are great. Thank you......
Thanks! Glad you like the DT 770s! Still my favorite!
I'm using the st-80 right now and boy is it good!!!! like wow!!! really helps me when i'm mastering music in FL studio.
Thank you. I got the Beyerdynamic DT990 250 ohm. You have once again steered me towards a product choice.
Also, I would throw in the Philips SHP9500 for a budget option, and for a more upscale open back, the Sennheiser HD 598s are very good. I use both of these for A/B'ing, and gaming. They're both very good, very comfortable, and the sound sate is excellent!
I love this video! You present loads of useful information in a polished presentation. You present flawlessly and in a pleasant, friendly manner. Great job! I also appreciate your summarizing at the end all this information!
13:41 I thought you were gonna say, these headphones sound closer to my wife's beautiful voice talking... whispering into my ears.
Haha. No headphones will compare to the real thing.
Well done!!!!
I'm plugged in directly to my laptop so I'm sending the 80 ohm back and getting the 32 ohm. I also ordered the Sony MDR-7506 today too.
I bought the Neumann NDH20s last year (2019) in April and am absolutely glad I did! These closed back headphones have some of the best sound I have ever had with some headphones and I use them for just about everything except gaming. The church where I work sound and media systems has a separate room where work. We get some "visitors" who will occasionally get loud and bring up children who cried on occasion. I had the Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones and they DID NOT block out that sound very well. After getting my Neumann NDH20s I was really surprised at what I had been missing from the sound, and because they are so good, I occasionally had to take some forks to my ears due to the "out-of-tune-ness" of the singing for the music. Yeah, they did that. My bottom line for them is if your budget allows it, get the Neumann NDH20s because they are worth it. I did and I'm glad I did. Thanks for sharing Sanjay! Your honest openness is refreshing!
Thanks for sharing. Its amazing what good quality gear does to your studio environment. And you don't know until you get it. I totally agree.
I stumbled on some 250ohm 880 pros and was blown away with the price to performance of the BDs. They make some great cheap headphones that often outperform ones costing 2-3x more. They also have high end ones but I haven’t tried them... sure they’re good
Had the 990s for over a year now and love em.. Especially for gaming
such a great video, so helpful. thank you for that!
This man is helping me build my studio he is a genius thanks man 👍
Of all the headphones that I've tried during the years I've settled with the Sennheiser HD650, the AKG K702, the Beyerdynamic DT-150 with DT-100 velour pads; those 3 I use for mixing and mastering. And I mainly use IEMs or the KRK KNS 8400 for tracking.
Dude your channel is amazing! I’m currently mixing wit a pair of Beats Solo HD’s and just ordered a pair of Sony’s due to this review.
Thank you Dj SoFlo!
Is there a big difference mixing with the sonys compared to the beats? I have the Sony's 900N bluetooth headphones which are not monitor headphones(I got them just for listening) but I was wondering if I connect them with wire to my audio interface if they would be as good as monitor headphones
Omg I had to get rid of my Beats... Terrible. After a little trip to guitar center and the tech was cool enough to allow me to listen to my mixes of a couple of track I mixed with Beats headphones The mixes were lacking terribly all beats headphones have a color more suited to consumer sound to them not flat. Love my Samson Sr 950s
I've had the Cb1's for about 3 years using them daily. lol i'm actually using them right now. They are great for the price!! I loaned them to a friend who had the M40x and he was blown away by the sound quality. Very comfortable too. Unfortunately the build quality is not that great. The "leather' from the ear cups has stripped completely and I had to use my sewing skills to patch them up because they totally fell off. The hinges on each ear broke and they are both being held together with super glue. Still sounds great after 3 years though. If you want something comfortable, with great sound then the Cb1 is a good buy, but if you are looking for durability.. get something else.
P.s. Don't get the OneOdio if you care anything about sound quality. You will regret it. A friend of mine bought a pair and it sounds terrible. Save a little and get something better
Thanks for the advice!
Had my M50x for about 8 years now, still going strong
The terms you use I this video is very layman friendly. As a serious Karaoke singer, your video help me select a proper headphone for my singing practice.👌👏😍😘🐷
Wow this is one of the best tech reviews I've seen on youtube. Well structured, informative and super engaging! I'm looking into getting a pair of new headphones so this helped a lot thanks! :)

Thank you, Alex! We will grow slow and steady :-)
Happy to see you getting the recognition you deserve Sanjay!
Hey Ez Beats! Thank you so much
i still have my HD 280 Pro you mentioned these are 30 plus years old.yes you read that right! . yes they have been made that long. they are well broken in and i mix with them all the time, for decades. I find them compared to others very good clear separation and a true mix which is the important thing . They are for mixing engineers and where used by top guys on some of the most famous albums so if you cant get a good final mix on these somethings wrong.
The channel’s content is amazingly helpful!!!
This was such a detailed review! Awesome job, definitely gonna look through the rest of your videos for advice!
Thanks Prabhu!
Superlux HD681, less than 30$, a tiny little grainy highs but best (of all) in terms of frequency response. A very very good sounding one for the purpose of your review.
I agree with ALMOST everything said in this review. My one nitpick is that the DT770's and DT990's do not sound the same in my opinion. I use both extensively and the DT990's are undoubtedly brighter and glassier than the 770's. And that's important because the 770's are already on the slightly brighter side of the spectrum, so the 990's are more fatiguing after a long session. I have to admit, I definitely reach for the 770's more often (which are actually slightly more comfortable as well in my opinion).
I purchased the DT990 250 ohms version used it with Focusrite 8i6 and they sounded terrible. I mean as soon as you turn the music up the sound gets distorted. Have you experienced the same thing? At first it seemed like the music with slightly louder bass was sounding distorted but later anything that is higher slightly in the middle started sounding distorted and I returned the headphones. I searched on the internet if anyone else had the same issue and turns out a few people have made a complaint of the same issue. Have you ever experienced anything like that with your DT990?
@@Blackbloodroyals wow, no, definitely never had that issue luckily... They sound extremely clean when they are working properly ;)

had it for a few months and now trying to get rid of it, wayyy to uncomfortable probably because im wearing glasses.
Finally! That's the last confirmation, I'll go with the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro
I think you'll be happy :-D What headphones do you use now?
I have the DT990 Pro, the only advice I could give: make sure you also invest in something like Sonarworks Reference, otherwise the highs will really hurt your ears!
Thanks, Peter...I have to try that out for sure. Did it make a difference for your monitors as well?
Sanjay C I only have the headphone version currently, which does wonders! It also seems very good for monitors but I need to buy their calibrated mic first, which I haven’t done yet. But that’s something for somewhere in 2020 😁
Ah sounds good! I'm gonna try it for sure. Thanks for the tips, Peter!

For a well mixed edm like Hardwell , Nicky Romero ... Which headphone will give you the most pleasure like you are in the club ? ...I have sony xb900n and it miserably failed to enjoy me as it gives vibration in the name of bass , don't have sub bass ... Kick are not punchy as real😪 I bought from yT reviews ...
Excellent! A great video, this guy makes good reviews. Regards from a new subscriber from Mexico!
The ath-m50x are amazing for mixing and creation when you can't use monitors. Translates very well when I do jump on my speakers. The soundstage isn't all that wide but it handles everything else quite nice. Was a major recent upgrade (last year) from my 7506's I used for over a decade. Beyers were too bright for my tastes. I also find the Senns HD-25s are great secondary phones. I watch movies, tv and game with Phillips x2hr.
Great vid. Focals?
Oh I wish I could try the Focal Utopia!! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Wonderful review! I love how you summarised your findings at the end, and packed so much useful information into the description, including timings that allow us to easily navigate the video to specific items. Very helpful. Thank you so much for making this! EDIT: Wait a minute ... not to mention the 14 subtitles you added for different languages. Dude, what ARE you??
Hi Ethan. I really appreciate your comment. It takes a lot of work to do everything for these videos so when someone notices, it really makes it worth my while. Thank you. You made my day! :-)
@@SanjayC You're welcome, man! I know how hard it can be, so I personally gave up on subtitles for the time being, but you went the extra mile.
I’ve been using the ATH-M50x for 3 years now, and I love their sound for recording and producing. At the beginning they were not comfortable to wear, they gave me headaches because of how tight they were. However, after wearing them for about a year, they got super comfortable.
I am glad hear that.caz i bought 2 days ago from amazon. Soon as soon i will get :)

Too much hyped bass as the reviewer states here. The bass overrides the mids
@@vidsforsquids The M40X's are flat. It seems Audio Technica wanted to grab the consumer market with the M50x and above
sir i am starting music production so i need headphones for mixing in budget which one will be best the sony or Beyerdynamic?
Just throwing this out there, I've had the ATH M50X for 6-7 years now. Used them a lot. I just picked up a new pair because I wanted more headphones for tracking, and the new pair sounds the same as the old
I've got so hype about the M50x but after I get it, it was very uncomfortable for me. But I still use it for 3 years now, I bought another decent cheap headphone that is comfortable, and use it for everything except when I need to master the track, I put the m50x on.
I can sort of relate, having m50x myself. My previous headphones were HyperX Cloud 2, and coming from them the m50x at first were noticably less comfortable, especially for longer periods of time. But after about a month or so, I got perfectly used to M50x, and I can wear them for many hours barely noticing any uncomfortableness (idk if that's a word even) ... so I guess you just kinda get used to over time.
You could have just changed the ear foam pads...
@@joashbritto i changed it too bro. Because it is also wear out easily I changed it soon but it still feel the same pressure onto my ear more or less.
10:10 i bought these n i am a beginner... I made kind of like good mixes in it!! So. I would suggest them to others on a tight budget and just wanna start!
Nice. Thanks for sharing your good experience with them.
Solid review. Accurate based on my own experience, as well. I prefer the Sony to the Beyers (easier to drive and more neutral, but less bass and less fun to listen to for casual listening).
You're.. sooo.. sooo Good Man. You Made this So Easy And Clear.

Thank you so much Lokesh
I have the M50X and they're a great pair of headphones but I've tried those 770s and I think I'd go with those. Great video! Can you do a comparison on the headphones you like to use for listening in general? I'm looking at the Bose 700 and would like to hear your take.
I think you'll love the 770s. Good choice. For listening in general, I typically buy headphones that have excellent noise cancelling - Bose has been great. But recently loving the Airpod Pros
Perfect now I will become the best musician of all time.
I can’t wait to see it
Thanks
Your channel is next level! Keep up with it!

@@SanjayC :) A question, I'm thinking of investing in some DT 770 PRO 250 ohm. However, I'll probably need an amp/AI right to power them, right? What would you recommend? (I have budget on $150 amp/ai). Will an amp/ai be able to power within that price range? Or should I go for the 80 ohms? :))
Do I need an amp for dt 770 pro 250 or will the headphone jack on focusrite scarlett solo audio interface be sufficient?
I find that the scarlett powers the 250 ohm headphones adequately for me. Give it a try. It may be good enough for you too. But I did like using an amp with all these headphones. Just sounded better for all. I used this one: amzn.to/2GQV6kM
