      Thanks Ben, I'll take the complement about the quiet delivery, but Ken Read is another league of commentator altogether!

    Knowledgeable detail of maneuvers and *** at 11minutes and the finale 12min+. Revealing views compared to “from the deck of LawConnect” and the official race coverage. Exciting season. Great recap of that finish so close after so many miles! Thanks everyone! Northern hemisphere appreciates you!

    What a nail-biting finish. Back and forth to the end. Oh, one late unfurl or it could have been even closer.

    • @crosbielorimer3918
      @crosbielorimer3918  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, that slow last unfurl on Comanche was the only one from either boat under high pressure, but as it happened the breeze dropped out for her at that moment, so she had no momentum at all.

    Law Connect is just a little less handicapped by design in these conditions with a narrower hull and less drag. Amazing finish

    • @crosbielorimer3918
      @crosbielorimer3918  7 месяцев назад +1

      Correct Brian, as I found out in the interview I did with LawConnect's navigator Chris Lewis. LawConncet is substantially heavier than andoo Comanche, but her hull shape at the waterline is such that she will carry some momentum even as the breeze drops to 3 knots or below. That's when Comanche's wide strength sticks like glue. That said, it's been amazing to watch how well the Winning family has adapted their dinghy sailing technique to improve Comanche's light weather performance.

    Great vidéo! Not to make this a rules discussion, but at 1:54 Comanche tries to establish an overlap to leeward of LC. It is incorrect to state that comanche has luffing rights and could luff LC into the wind. Comanche is bound by rule 17 and must sail her proper course.

    Does the race committee bear responsibility for poor management of the race course and allowing a spectator boat to intrude on the winward side of the finish line? Where are the course contol boats?

    • @jb243wp
      @jb243wp 7 месяцев назад +3

      I think they were asleep..
      It's not like the yachts were travelling at great speed, so surely at least one official must have noticed a spectator vessel drifting within the off-limits restricted area.
      Pretty poor organisation.

    The fastest mono on Mother Earth hamstrung by deplorable tactics pertaining to respective wind strengths ... the navigator on Law Connect was peerless with his decision making... perhaps it was apathy by the Skipper that the mighty Comanche could not be defeated?!

    Comanche should have keep on … not trying to force a luff contest .. poor tactics from a professional

    • @crosbielorimer3918
      @crosbielorimer3918  7 месяцев назад

      From where I saw it Scott, Andoo Comanche was already heading into a lighter patch when LawConnect found new breeze down the west shore. Andoo Comanche headed that way to try and get into that breeze and to try and cover LawConnect.

  • @joeconway878
    @joeconway878 7 месяцев назад

    At 1.45 you talk about Andoo Comanche having luffing rights. Under rule 17 Andoo Comanche can't sail above her proper course as she established an overlap from less than 2 boat lengths to leeward, so can't luff. Or am I missing something?

    • @crosbielorimer3918
      @crosbielorimer3918  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the correction, Joe, point taken.My grasp of the racing rules is not all it might be these days, so I don't doubt I made more than a few slips here that those better informed would pick up on. In the end my main goal for a very wide audience of experience is to convey the atmosphere and the broad thrust of what's going on on both boats; so hopefully those in the know of the details will cut me some slack for the errors here and there!

      @@crosbielorimer3918 This is such an easy mistake to make when your match racing brain kicks in, since Rule 17 is deleted for match racing.

      These racing yachts have an apparent wind so far forward that the manoeuvre can look more like a tack than a gybe in terms of how the sails are set but the wind is coming from behind the camera.
