Learning to accentuate and articulate the snare in any genre of music makes an interesting and diverse difference in drum beats. Church Drumming really hits close to home for me haha. Always appreciate what you have to offer and teach!
Legit have been playing church drums since high school and didn’t even realize how common that second beat is! Legit used in so many songs. I used Gabe’s ideas and developed them on my last church drum serving using the beats, fills and how to adjust the sounds of the kit mentioned on the course and my church drumming sounds way more better! #smallvictory for me I guess
I love this Gabe! There is definitely more types of church music than just the contemporary style, which you know. My church uses an orchestra but we're blended, so we do half and half of high anthem orchestra music and contemporary. But also contemporary music nowadays is often orchestrated for churches who have an orchestra, so we do that as well sometimes. The beats still help either way for any situation, thanks a lot!
Great video and I appreciate what you are doing. To be honest its crazy that you would have to learn this stuff and pass a test just to play in a church group. You want good musicians of course, but to be so rigid in the requirements to praise God is limiting IMO. I would practice with songs and make it mine in my own way. Those guys I played with really enjoyed my playing because I played with FEEL and DYNAMICS not excellent technique and copying the song. I understand that certain places want perfection over feel, I get it, especially if you are getting paid. And honestly I never wanted to get paid for getting to do something I TRULY loved. And I am in no way bashing anyone or anything. But God gives us all gifts of expression, we dont have to copy others to be doing it right. Thats one thing about Christian music that I really dis-like, you hear one song, you've heard them all. I would love to hear ALL styles of music used to express these songs in Church and get the play that the "normal" Christian music has. Love what you are doing brother keep it up!!
Hey, I just picked up an electronic kit about a month and a half ago, and want to get better (obviously). I want to take lessons, but IRL lessons are really expensive, so I'm considering joining DBO academy. What exactly is included in the subscription if I decide to join?
Personally, I think it’s totally worth it. You get a series of 5 tiers to progress through with skill levels ranging from a total beginner to extremely advanced. Each tier level is comprised of 6-8 series where Gabe breaks down a topic relevant to the skill level a player is currently on. Within each series is about 7 videos where Gabe takes you through step by step the concept he’s trying to get you to learn. It’s gotten to the point where I spend days trying to perfect a technique from 1 video alone, so I definitely think the content is worth the bang for your buck.

Absolutely! Snare rolls can be used as beats AND fills in a multitude of different genres which makes them incredibly versatile!
