Guys you've got it all wrong: God devoured Father in order for Norman to have a spider boyfriend and play Minecraft together in a new reality, how sweet.
SO, here is my interpretation-- going lyric by lyric and picture by picture. To begin, the video depicts Norman (the male with the black hair and glasses) with black holes for eyes. This can indicate a lot of things, but I believe it most likely represents how Norman feels empty inside-- a shell of a person. He is or considers himself to be soulless, as eyes are the windows to the soul. As this is also a piece inspired by/about religion, I also wanna point out how a lot of people claim atheists don't have souls. The video shifts to what appears to be a sleep-deprived Norman with a praying mantis hovering over his shoulder. Everyone knows that sleep deprivation leads to both careless and reckless mistakes. You aren't of the right mind when you don't sleep enough. You aren't rational, and you tend to be highly emotional without sleep. Norman has many bags under his eyes-- as if he hasn't been sleeping right for years. This suggests that Norman is not in a logical or rational state of mind, and that he is perpetually exhausted when going through life. Now to address the bug: what/who is he, and what does he represent? To begin, I'll explain the significance of it being a praying mantis (beyond the fact that it's a pun). It is an insect known for calm stillness, and patience. The praying mantis is seen as a symbol for peace, for guidance. Relating to this, fathers (both as biological dads and priests) are figures that assist you through life. They offer advice and set the rules. So it is quite clear that this figure behind Norman (who is either a biological father or priest) has insight and wisdom, and Norman will take their word for the truth. Now, (finally) onto the lyrics. ~ _Father said that this world isn't for me._ This is significant because as I mentioned above, Norman will take the bug's word and believe him. Already, Norman probably felt he didn't fit in with the people surrounding him-- as he feels empty. And now he has someone he looks to for help and advice acknowledging those feelings as true. It is reinforcing Norman's feeling of not belonging. ~ _I tried to pray for a new reality._ Before (and possibly after being told his feelings of alienation are correct), Norman yearns to change. He doesn't want to be different, and he wants things to work out. He tried believing that things would get better. But unfortunately it didn't work. His desire for it to be different wasn't good enough. The scene shifts to a moth caught in a spider web. It offers to make things better for Norman by inviting him to join it. ~ _"So come, to me, we can change night into day."_ The irony of this is that the moth doesn't realize it is stuck within the web. It is ignorant to it's situation. Just as moths get distracted by the light-- (perhaps alluding to a person being gaslighted)-- it doesn't notice the danger. And by inviting Norman, the moth is trapping him as well. ~ _A tied up moth seemed to know a different way._ While not clear, the moth could be a potential friend of Normans'. Or it could simply be another church-goer who realized Norman's suffering. Perhaps this moth is even well meaning. But just as it is tied up, it will tie up Norman-- leave him in tangles. And unfortunately, Norman believes this moth. ~ _Don't remember it. Don't return to it._ This flashes across the screen, almost as fast as someone's thoughts. Most likely Norman's. Whatever has caused Norman to feel empty, he doesn't want to go back. He is in complete avoidance mode. That means that the problem is not being addressed. Perhaps it is trauma, and his avoidance is a coping mechanism that doesn't seem to be working as well as it once did. Next, it shows Norman and the praying mantis back to back. The father figure (most likely a priest, since this is heavily alluding to religion) has turned his back on Norman. Has given up. It shows the mantis ripping out innards from a skeleton. This could mean two things. 1: the praying mantis goes back to attending to other broken people (whether those close to death or people struggling with loss), or 2: the priest (or praying mantis) views Norman as a lost cause, already dead, and is severing their connection. ~ _Father tore out the umbilical cord._ An umbilical cord is what connects the baby to it's mother. Without it, the baby will die. An umbilical cord transfers nutrients from the mother to the baby. Father, the mantis, is cutting ties with Norman and is no longer supporting him. ~ _There's nothing left in the bottle keeping me scored._ In response, Norman resorts to alcohol to cope with the emptiness rather than go to the mantis. Perhaps this emptiness is suggesting he suffers from depression or ptsd, but it's never made clear. But now even alcohol isn't enough to deal with the emptiness. And so he decides to do what he does best: more avoidance. ~ _We'll abandon the scenery (Don't remember it. Don't return to it) in the rear view mirror._ He's cutting ties with his life. With his past. He is going to go to the moth. ~ _A petty line of white noise. Pack up the bags and throw out the toys._ No thoughts. Caught up, perhaps delirious. Norman essentially loses it, can't cope, and decides to disassociate from his life all together. But who is the moth, really? An invitation-- but to where? How and why is it stuck? Perhaps... this moth is a cult member recruiting an emotional distressed Norman. Moth wings swirl around Norman like a new pair of limbs. Norman is converting into a cultist. ~ _Three strikes and "Honey, I'm home."_ Norman has had enough. He tried over and over, only to keep missing, and still be out. Like baseball. Ironically, "Honey, I'm home" is such a generic and commercialized greeting-- incredibly fake, but Norman is accepting it. He is viewing the cult as his new home, regardless of the fact that it's built on superficiality. ~ _Three voices come from the gramophone._ It can be debated who these voices are. Most likely, the key leaders of the cult (God, the Spider, the Mother). Norman is listening to what is being said. ~ _A vivisection of me yielded the start of a mystery._ For those who don't know- a vivisection is a dissection on live animals for the purpose of scientific research or experimentation. So essentially, this line could be referring to how Norman is being initiated into the cult. Or being ruthlessly analyzed to the point where Norman starts to question who he is as a person. Basically brain-washed. ~ _John __3:33_ Norman believes in the cult leader, God. ~ _God returned with the moth chained to his hand. "There's so many things that you'll never understand... So come with me, we can change night into day. You'll hold my hand so you never go astray."_ Perhaps this means that the person who originally invited Norman to the cult tried to escape it. And so God, the cult leader, brought the moth back. Either way, the moth is in God's hand. This is showing that God has a tight grip on his members, and he won't let them go. Here, God is gaslighting Norman. He's telling him he doesn't understand much, and that God will help him. It makes Norman question what he really knows, and leaves him dependent on God. God follows with too-good-to-be-true promises-- promises that the moth who invited Norman made. God will hold Norman so he can't change his mind. And so, Norman is being closely watched by the cult leader. The cult leader makes amazing promises, and shows Norman that he is all-knowing. That he is powerful, and impossible to get away from. ~ _God devoured that of Father._ The cult leader has replaced Norman's original role model, the priest, or Father. Now Norman looks to God (the cult leader) for advice, support, and validation. It can also signify how the cult leader has essentially cut Norman's ties with people outside the cult. After this, we are introduced to another member of the cult (perhaps an older member, or another leader). The spider. ~ _A spider preaching with poison on it's lips. "To get out of here is to promise me a kiss."_ The spider is making the same promises, but there's an underlying threat behind the words. These promises are dangerous. It's also important to note that it is the spider, and not God, who spun the web that trapped people. The member spewing promises is the most dangerous of all, the one who will keep you within the cult with unsaid threats disguised as happy promises. ~ _The abandonment of scenery in the mind of Mother. (Don't remember it. Don't return to it.)_ Mother, the counterpart to father. A completely different belief system. More loving, more nurturing, more emotional. More capable of hurting you. Norman is cut off from his old life, in a place where emotions are manipulated dangerously. And once again, Norman is avoiding the past-- is trying to forget who he was and why he escaped in the first place. It's reinforcing him into believing that the decision to join the cult was a good one. The video returns a blank, empty Norman as the next lines play. ~ _So, with advice of the dead and a halo over my head. _*_AT LAST_*_ "Honey, I'm home."_ Norman is no longer who he was in the past before the cult. That Norman is dead. And now the new Norman, now in "heaven" (a cult being blissful, safe, ideal for Norman), has fully become a trapped moth. And now he's trying to use his story to attract more people into joining the cult. AT LAST, he can forget about what made him empty. From the rejection of Father, the priest. He is where he is supposed to be. He embraces the falseness, the familial and superficial cult. And he wants YOU to join. The spider and God are his family now, fully enveloping him and erasing his past.
@@20firebird Thank you so much! The story and song really struck me, so I felt I'd take on an analysis. I really love GHOST's songs because of the intricate symbolism behind everything. Unfortunately I haven't even covered everything that the video dipicted. Such as the red women witnessing Norman's vivisection. These women are members of the cult, indistinguishable from each other, no personality, no past. They lost their identities by joining the cult. There's so much more I could probably touch upon but I won't take up anymore of your time. But thank you so much for acknowledging the work it took to write this.
Oh my god wow that made everything make so much more sense! I’ve seen a few other explanations but yours really went the extra mile to look deeper and tie together every loose end this helped so much
For anyone confused and curious about the meaning of the song, here is what I got: There are three main characters here, Norman(the first guy) aka the moth, God and Charon(the spider guy with multiple arms). Norman's father was convinced that life was a sort of nightmare and that you could escape it by dying, which is why he kills his wife out of "mercy". Growing up with this mindset Norman naturally questioned if the world was even real, and eventually came to the conclusion of it being a sort of simulation, this is basically what "a tied up moth seemed to know a different way" means (he himself is building different theories). This is when he meets God, who says he can save him and basically confirms his doubts. God eating father is symbolic of him taking his place as a mentor for Norman, and the moth tied up on god's right hand is symbolic of blind trust. Norman also meets Charon, who offers him an easy way out, as simply kissing him will kill him and therefore "wake him up". Unfortunately, turns out God isn't that nice of a guy after all, upon waking up Norman finds out that his real body is tied up and being used for live dissection in order to entertain a large group of angels watching him. Creepy as fuck
And I headcanon that that one Angel that we got a close-up on was Norman’s mother (norman’s dad’s wife that he killed) and that’s why she looks so shookith
My phone was glitching and I was listening to this song while waiting for it to stop. I put the headphones on my phone while this song blasted from them. No joke. My phone literally just went back to normal Moral of the story; My phone likes industrial Catholic bugcore
Vivisection -surgery conducted for experimental purposes on a living organism, typically animals with a central nervous system, to view living internal structure. Human vivisection, such as live organ harvesting, has been perpetrated as a form of torture. (Taken from Wikipedia cause I was curious)
My Engineering teacher had this 'playlist paper' where each person would write down a song and immediately after I suggested Reckless Battery Burns someone else apparently put Perfect Nothing right under it I have no idea who it was but they're the fucking GOAT
does anyone else get a cult-like feeling from this song or is it just me? Edit: So, since this is one of my most popular comments, imma explain my theory: I think his dad may have been apart of the cult, and was saying how it wasn’t for his son. Though, the son was deeply connected with his mother, so, he would go against his wishes. Soon enough, The father decided to completely abandon the cult and run away with his son. But, in this, it’s the son’s perspective. So he always just thought that his father was a cruel man, seeing him as a praying mantis. Soon enough, though, he re-meets “God”. The cult leader, and he hears the son’s troubles and offers to help. The cult may be resorting to cannibalism, or at least, God is a cannibal. Since being a cannibal can cause malnourishment. Hence why he looks like SCP-096 except you can look at his face without dying in 2 seconds flat. And, well, God eats the son’s father. Soon enough, he rejoins the cult once more. Oh, and why do we hear “DONT REMEMBER IT, DONT RETURN TO IT.”? Simple: Manipulation. His mind was practically rewired to not recall the past and only recall the present. So, he is going against “God” by retelling past memories. Either that, or trauma. Probably both, now that I think of it. And, of course, eager to join the cult, he allows himself to be initiated via vivisection. (Vivisection is basically surgery. Cutting open someone who is alive, Dissection is when you cut open someone or something that’s/who’s dead.) Though, once it’s over and done with, he winds up regretting everything in the end. But, at least he rejoined his mother,, right? Right?… Also, “Father took out the umbilical cord” could be referring to how the father was trying to teach his son the dangers of the cult. Since this metaphor is usually used as a term of teaching a child “Life isn’t fair. And you have to deal with that.” And vice versa, we can safely assume he was talking about this in regards to the cult; saying how it was dangerous and they needed to leave despite the son never fully knowing why. So yeah, that’s my theory! I had it more planned out than this before but eh,, now it’s here for the world to see! :D
@@MagentaRodent can’t remember for sure where I read it but I remember reading somewhere that Norman (mc) was confirmed by ghost to be gay, so there’s probably a similar metaphor somewhere in this
I just realized that the "3 voices" may refer to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Norman's father, Charon/Norman, and 'god'). This theory is actually backed up further now that we know that Norman actually *lives* in a simulated world created by God and Charon.
i don't listen to pretty much any vocaloid anymore, but shit, this video has reminded me why i ever started listening to it in the first place. you don't get this kind of wonderfully dark and strange stuff in mainstream music. you do creepy themes and haunting lyrics really well. it's absolutely beautiful. maybe i'll start listening to this stuff more often.

me with other confusing vocaloid songs: oh, you didn't get the story? here's my long ass comment that is filled with explanation of metaphors and time stamps added to prove my theory! me with GHOST songs: i- *uhh* *god ate his dad?*
Funny. I actually understand these the best. To put it simply, the boy's dad was part of a "church". He found out what they were actually doing and ran off to get out of it. They get caught and "god"(the leader) kills and eats his father or sacrifices him. They knock out the kid and put him in a room with a preacher. He is speaking their gospel and tells the boy that the only way to live is to join the cult. He agrees, and "god" does the ritual to bring him in.
Am I the only one that thinks the spider is adorable? Like, in the "A vivisection of me, done by God for all to see' part, he's just chilling on the side and he looks so cute like omg I wanna give him all my love ❤
I like how so many people interpret the story with symbolism and underlying themes but in reality norman's dad really just is a massive praying mantis and god really did have him for dinner
This was and always will be my favorite song. I really love all your songs (I set the "perfect nothing" one as my alarm clock :3) I still remember when during the pandemic I listened to your songs until dawn I really love them ❤️
I, personally, feel as if this song is about converting to another more horrifyingly unknown religion. One characterized by morbid, disturbing rituals in order to pray and worship the God. At first, the main character senses a feeling of lacking in his own system of beliefs, and attempts to pray for a different reality. He is unhappy, for that religion brings him no feeling nor interest anymore. The moth represents where his mind strays at for religious thinking- wherever the creature is ‘tied up’, (the spiderweb, then the new God) that will be where Norman’s (the main character) new belief in religion and worship-ways stay. It was first tied to the web, and once Norman freed the vagarious creature inside himself, it found another, more ‘satisfactory’ choice in a god. The spiderweb is delicate. Many things stronger than a moth would have torn it apart, demonstrating how thin Norman’s beliefs in his previous religion were. Yet, when he found happiness in another train of thought, the moth was chained to a firm, powerful deity with a near human look. Now, his faith is stronger. He won’t escape it as easily as he did with his own. The God, whether psychologically imagined or not (by any chance), tempts Norman into a new, foreign divinity. However, his own father refuses to allow him. Because Norman’s mother (the lady drawn in red shown near the end of the video) had followed that path before, which resulted in her untimely demise befalling. Some religious acts of gratitude and praying and/or a ritual went wrong, and the mother faced a horrible, punitive death- or maybe a mere disappearance. That is why ‘Don’t remember it, don’t return to it’ is repeated so often in the narrative. It’s the pleading of the father, because the belief is subtly ingrained in Norman, due to him being their offspring, which is why he could ‘return to it’ though he has not seen nor endorsed it yet. The doctrine may have also tantalized the family on several occasions before. Whether a relative is known to it, or a multitude of disappearances strived from this religion as the core point of why, the father would have been begging Norman not to look that way. For he knows what happened to the others, he is not naive. Soon enough, though, the father fails to reach Norman in time. His attempts are all in vain, as the God metaphorically ‘eats’ the father, yielding him as nothing more than he was, for not supporting the new religion. If his opinions are not worth noting, than he is not worth existing in Norman’s mind. He could either have been killed in reality by a cult, or dismissed of forever by Norman’s mental choice. Speaking of a cult! I think the ‘spider’ is meant to be a cult member/leader in this story. While the God is not ‘real’ in our realms, a cult member certainly can be. Norman joins this cult, and though the God is not with them in reality, he is with them in their thoughts. This is the same cult where his mother could have died in. A vivisection is performed, which could have been a gruesome ritual in order to convert the boy fully. Once it is done, he is, of course, dead. Facing the same fate as his mother, he acquires a halo on his head, and is thrust into the dark afterlife. Or, perhaps, given a chance of barely another life as a ghost upon the world. Lost and lonely, forever weeping black tears pooling around his eyes. The shell of his former existence, the realm between dead and living for which he is stuck in forever, is the result of his new religion. Those were the promises given to him, and now that he took it, he lost what he took for granted before. For he is unable to pass on, and accursed to this void of reality where his mother met the same fate. (bY THE WAY, Ghost!! *wonderful* song. I adore how eerie and creepy the visuals, instrumentals, and lyrics are. thats something I hardly ever got from VOCALOID these days!! AND well done on the art, I see so much improvement all around- in Norman, in the God figure(s), and especially the mantis!!! I can’t believe how far you’ve come.. it’s amazing, really. Good job. I hope you’ll know how stellar you are- you are, after all, one of my biggest inspirations.)
Wow this is genius. I bet you that's exactly what the song is about. It makes total sense.. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure this out, all I could figure out on my own was that a) Norman is dead and trapped in a dark, lonely place b) he abandoned his old religion This song is so deep I love it, thanks again for sharing your awesome theory! Which again, you've solved it, I swear :D
While I usually get the gist of songs, I love to read longer, in-depth comments like this which unravel more than the basic meaning. It really helps me understand the song better, which helps me enjoy it better. Thank you for helping me enjoy the song!
rainbow Oh, ah.. thank you so much for that-! It’s just a little theory of mine, and I’m so happy that you enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you for your kindness.
Heyo ghost can you explain that "industrial catholic bugcore" in the description like right now thaank Edit: yall, chill, I asked before the premier I know know that I've heard the song jeez Edit 2: heyo again ghost is this song just about Traitor Lord from Hollow Knight cause it seems to line up pretty spot on
Fun fact: From when the song starts to where the song ends 0:05 - 3:37 is actually 3:33 minutes in song total. This not counting the Patreon and warning at the beginning. This is also concluded on the topic version of the song where it says 3:33 in length as well. And coincidently the Bibles word from John in this video has the same numbers 3:33. If this wasn't intentional, I don't know what is.
Completely uncalled for theory no one asked for: The main character is being abused by a church minister. They repress the memories - "Don't remember it, don't return to it" and eventually turn to alcohol to cope but find it doesn't work - "There's nothing left in the bottle keeping me scored." They eventually leave their town "We'll abandon the scenery in the rear-view mirror" and meet someone- the moth. The moth introduces the character to drugs, perhaps cocaine - "a petty line of white noise"? Under the influence of drugs, the character meets "God.” The moth passes away due to complications from drugs, and the next time the character gets high, the moth is “chained to the hand of God,” who shows the character a way to fix their problems. The character returns to their previous town to kill their abuser. Their psyche can’t handle the weight of murder, and they develop a delusion that they are an angel sent down from heaven to serve divine justice - “So, with advice of the dead, and a halo over my head.” Their next target is another minister- “a spider preaching with poison on its lips.” This spider sexually preys on younger members of the congregation. The character fulfills their mission, but they are beginning to hear the voices of the people they have killed. This eventually drives them to commit suicide. In the afterlife, they come face to face with God once again, but this time he isn’t so welcoming. As punishment for their crimes, God vivisects the character in front of a crowd of onlookers.
I always interpreted this song as a person who is an alcoholic being kicked out by his religious father because of his drinking. Cut off the umbilical cord could mean stop supporting, and the father is a praying mantis which suggest he's religious. The son meets a “prophet” and pretty soon joins a cult, which gets him to stop his drinking but makes him cut out his old family. God devoured that of Father could mean his religious beliefs made him cut his dad out of his life. When he sings the chorus, he's celebrating that he's a changed man because of the cult he joined. A vivisection of me could mean God is cutting him up and using him as a prophet for his cause and improving his life.
@@sardonicsardonyx359 I like that idea a lot, especially if this song was taken as a metaphor. But in my opinion, I think that it is mostly literal, especially with Insecta Apostate coming out, which suggests that this is a story. But I really think that either meaning can be taken from this song. Art is subjective and this sure is some great art. (Just wanted to say that that theory is cool, though).
@@YellowJelly13 It means of course (as you probably already knew) "the practice of performing operations on live animals for the purpose of experimentation or scientific research (used only by opponents of such work)" And it is shown "literally" in the video but it ALSO means "ruthlessly sharp and detailed criticism or analysis." So, in that case "a vivisection of me" would mean that.

YEAAAAA NORMAN X CHARON FOR LIIIIIFE!
@@PartyBeetlefan Hell yeah!

@@Foeslayer958-y3iTHERS A SHIP NAME?
~ _Father said that this world isn't for me._
This is significant because as I mentioned above, Norman will take the bug's word and believe him. Already, Norman probably felt he didn't fit in with the people surrounding him-- as he feels empty. And now he has someone he looks to for help and advice acknowledging those feelings as true. It is reinforcing Norman's feeling of not belonging.
~ _I tried to pray for a new reality._
Before (and possibly after being told his feelings of alienation are correct), Norman yearns to change. He doesn't want to be different, and he wants things to work out. He tried believing that things would get better. But unfortunately it didn't work. His desire for it to be different wasn't good enough.
The scene shifts to a moth caught in a spider web. It offers to make things better for Norman by inviting him to join it.
~ _"So come, to me, we can change night into day."_
The irony of this is that the moth doesn't realize it is stuck within the web. It is ignorant to it's situation. Just as moths get distracted by the light-- (perhaps alluding to a person being gaslighted)-- it doesn't notice the danger. And by inviting Norman, the moth is trapping him as well.
~ _A tied up moth seemed to know a different way._
While not clear, the moth could be a potential friend of Normans'. Or it could simply be another church-goer who realized Norman's suffering. Perhaps this moth is even well meaning. But just as it is tied up, it will tie up Norman-- leave him in tangles. And unfortunately, Norman believes this moth.
~ _Don't remember it. Don't return to it._
This flashes across the screen, almost as fast as someone's thoughts.
~ _Father tore out the umbilical cord._
An umbilical cord is what connects the baby to it's mother. Without it, the baby will die. An umbilical cord transfers nutrients from the mother to the baby. Father, the mantis, is cutting ties with Norman and is no longer supporting him.
~ _There's nothing left in the bottle keeping me scored._
In response, Norman resorts to alcohol to cope with the emptiness rather than go to the mantis. Perhaps this emptiness is suggesting he suffers from depression or ptsd, but it's never made clear. But now even alcohol isn't enough to deal with the emptiness. And so he decides to do what he does best: more avoidance.
~ _We'll abandon the scenery (Don't remember it. Don't return to it) in the rear view mirror._
He's cutting ties with his life. With his past. He is going to go to the moth.
~ _A petty line of white noise. Pack up the bags and throw out the toys._
No thoughts.
~ _Three strikes and "Honey, I'm home."_
Norman has had enough.
~ _Three voices come from the gramophone._
It can be debated who these voices are. Most likely, the key leaders of the cult (God, the Spider, the Mother). Norman is listening to what is being said.
~ _A vivisection of me yielded the start of a mystery._
For those who don't know- a vivisection is a dissection on live animals for the purpose of scientific research or experimentation. So essentially, this line could be referring to how Norman is being initiated into the cult. Or being ruthlessly analyzed to the point where Norman starts to question who he is as a person. Basically brain-washed.
~ _John __3:33_
Norman believes in the cult leader, God.
~ _God returned with the moth chained to his hand. "There's so many things that you'll never understand... So come with me, we can change night into day. You'll hold my hand so you never go astray."_
Perhaps this means that the person who originally invited Norman to the cult tried to escape it.
~ _God devoured that of Father._
The cult leader has replaced Norman's original role model, the priest, or Father.
"To get out of here is to promise me a kiss."_
The spider is making the same promises, but there's an underlying threat behind the words.
Don't return to it.)_
Mother, the counterpart to father.
_*_AT LAST_*_ "Honey, I'm home."_
Norman is no longer who he was in the past before the cult. The spider and God are his family now, fully enveloping him and erasing his past.
holy SHIT. kudos for the depth of your analysis!!

For anyone confused and curious about the meaning of the song, here is what I got:
There are three main characters here, Norman(the first guy) aka the moth, God and Charon(the spider guy with multiple arms).
This is the creepiest theory on the song in my opinion, great job lmao

does anyone else get a cult-like feeling from this song or is it just me?
Edit: So, since this is one of my most popular comments, imma explain my theory:
I think his dad may have been apart of the cult, and was saying how it wasn’t for his son.
Right?…
Also, “Father took out the umbilical cord” could be referring to how the father was trying to teach his son the dangers of the cult.
Nope not just you
Definitely.
Oh please honey, first time listening to cult like music? :3

I just realized that the "3 voices" may refer to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Norman's father, Charon/Norman, and 'god').
This theory is actually backed up further now that we know that Norman actually *lives* in a simulated world created by God and Charon.

Wow this is genius. I bet you that's exactly what the song is about. It makes total sense.. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure this out, all I could figure out on my own was that a) Norman is dead and trapped in a dark, lonely place b) he abandoned his old religion

@@MOVED924 I think so-
Jesus rose on the third day and was crucified alongside two other people (3 in total) but that's kinda reaching 💀💀
Completely uncalled for theory no one asked for:
The main character is being abused by a church minister.
Their psyche can’t handle the weight of murder, and they develop a delusion that they are an angel sent down from heaven to serve divine justice - “So, with advice of the dead, and a halo over my head.”
Their next target is another minister- “a spider preaching with poison on its lips.” This spider sexually preys on younger members of the congregation.
What does the vivisection actually mean though? It surely can't be literal.
@@YellowJelly13 I mean, this is Ghost, I wouldn't be that surprised.
@@YellowJelly13 It means of course (as you probably already knew) "the practice of performing operations on live animals for the purpose of experimentation or scientific research (used only by opponents of such work)"
And it is shown "literally" in the video but it ALSO means "ruthlessly sharp and detailed criticism or analysis." So, in that case "a vivisection of me" would mean that.
I was listening to a playlist with this song after the song “Below the Surface” so it literally jumped scared me after the whisper of “exotic butter” and then it just went loudly “DUH DUH” (because I was playing the playlist loudly) and it started the living fnck out of me for a second lol😭
