I got my vice from Amazon here: amzn.to/38iQqlx
Check out our website: woodworkhubby.com
I recently needed a new vise for my workshop and since I already had a woodworking vise, I decided to go for an Irwin vice for holding metal objects. I am very happy with it so far and the fact that the vise swivels are a great feature.
Have you seen the great articles on our web site? Check it out at woodworkhubby.com
I got this vise for $108. Also plan on bolting it down to my workbench. Word of advice for anyone that does not know - make sure to bolt down at distance from edge of work table such that your back jaw (the non movable jaw) is off the edge. Reason being is that if you swivel vise head down, you can still have something clamped and not interfere with work table.
Good point - Thanks for adding that. Mounting position for any vise definitely needs some thought.
Thanks Derek for the video. Woodwork Wifey here. I've just make a new workbench. Based on your very informative video I'll be buying one of these vises.
Lol. No worries
had this vice on my workbench in my garage for a year. definitely top notch.
Yes it is working well for me also. I’m glad I purchased it
Hi, looking in from the UK! Great concise review, yet you managed to demonstrate all the features, which is just what I wanted to see. I like the way you narrated over the speeded-up video. I'm looking at this model as a poor man's Yost 750, looks like it should do the job well. Thanks!
Hi Stephen. I’m glad it helped somewhat. Good luck with your vise.
Thanks Derek, now AUD183.00 at Bunnings, found a brand new one on gumtree for AUD120.00, still wrapped and in the box, fantastic.
Great review, made choosing easy.
Regarding locking off the shaft, I checked this, pretty good feature, however I would recommend always locking it off on larger jobs to keep the job from swinging around when the jaws are loosened 😃
Keep up the good work.
best regards from South Oz
Thank you. No problems. Yes prices just keep rising unfortunately
I just bought the most expensive vise Ace Hardware had. Actually, it was the only one they had. $130. It too is an Irwin 6" jaws, but it doesn't rotate. Swivels, but no rotate. It weighs 31.4 lbs. (14.2 Kgs or 2.24 Stones). My old one weighed about 5 lbs ( 2.2 Kgs or 0.35 Stones). It was just a small one and served me well with most things but it finally snapped at the base ( it was a screw clamp type and iron I believe) Irwin is headquartered in Maryland but these are "Made in China" according to the retail box. Everything's made in China. I think I'll start a company making Chinese handcuffs and print "Made in USA" on them.
Haha. Yes I think everything is made in China. I have had good results with this vise so far.
This is strange Pony make exactly same vise!!! Im looking at my mine right now! I wonder if they order them on small factory.. lol
I got the same vice from my local Bunnings
Bloody good vice 👍
Do ya no what the other features are ?
I was wondering about the Dimond shape
Dose anyone no ❓
The diamond shape on the other side is for holding pipe or other round objects
Thanks Mate.
You're welcome!
Bought this in england for £70 it is a versatile vice and a handy thing but be under no illusions its for lite work only any heavy work will fuck it up real quick .
Many thanks for your vice advice. I'm just wondering why so many are mounted on the LEFT side of the bench ??? Are most workshop folks left-handed ? Anything to do with political persuasion ? Surely it's neither of these. Is it more practical in some way on the left ? Mine is like yours, but mounted at the RIGHT hand corner of the bench. It has a swivel base like yours, BUT I'm so envious that yours also has vertical swivel.
I don't know why they mount them on the left side. Seems odd. The vertical swivel is definitely handy.
looks a great vice, is it the same as the 'clarke Swivel 140' ? Also why do so many youtubers measure ''for square'' after the cut in this case after the four drill holes have been committed to the bench! Not much you can do after
Hi there. Yes the Clarke swivel 140 is basically exactly the same vice as this one. I’m not sure why they measure for square but I guess it’s because they want the vice to be installed straight but as you suggested, this will only work if they drilled the holes right to begin with. Chat soon! Derek
Hi Derek, what size coach screws did you use for this? Thanks for the upload
I used 75mm coach screws that go down into the main beam of my workbench
@@woodworkhubby721 Thank you!
What width?
$101 here in the state's. Things are too damn pricey abroad!?
Hope it lasts you a good long time!!
Yes $150 where I am but well worth it in my opinion.
Mine didn’t come with the screws
Same
Hi is this a six or four inch need something small for a van?
Hi there. This vice is a 6 inch
Okay thanks hope the 4 inch is a bit smaller.
No worries.
Same exact vice different name for $75 bucks from Harbor Freight
🤣 Cheap SOB
@@ThatCleanMT I got the harbor freight one. Works great!
Irwin record.... Chinese shite, it will rust rather quickly
