I've always felt that Tommy Shaw is largely ignored when they talk about People Who have Contributed Musical Talent to this Era, and My Generation. The Man is a a Lyrical Genius, and He's also pretty damn good on a guitar.
To say nothing of his voice, which is consistently one of the best in rock, even in 2018. He still hits all the notes in full voice in the original key and never bails - he just crushes it every single time. That puts him in the company of Ann Wilson, Paul Rodgers and Glenn Hughes. Not too shabby, I’d say!
They had some really good stuff, really deep, meaningful songs. Tommy really brought an added dimension to the group. Dennis and JY, well, they were the heart of the band. Styx is still good today, slightly differently, but still good.
I had chance to open for Tommy during a stop on his Girls With Guns tour. He is just as genuine off stage as he is in these videos. Even though we were local shmoes that were going no where beyond being slightly larger than medium fish in our slightly smaller than medium pond, and were fine with that, and could do nothing for him professionally, he still allowed us to ahve a meet and greet and to get a chance to meet him and hang out for a few... of course, the fact that we didn't get all googlely and step all over ourselves, and mostly talked music and equipment, might have helped lol I do have to say that it was a nice change from when I met him during the Kilroy tour and he was, most assuredly not amused with Mr. DeYoung, and was not in the mood to be friendly. The crime about Tommy is that he never makes the list of the top musicians. The man plays it all, and does it all......
@styxtoury. I found your channel today again after a few years. Your dedication and extensive library is bar none the best! You're the go to person on STYX and Tommy and some of the rarest and most interesting saved. I thank you!
The Scorpions put up a good fight, but their sting wasn't enough to defeat the blue-collar might of Chicago's veteran rock renegades. With nearly 66 percent of the vote. Styx have officially been inducted into the Ultimate Classic Rock of Fame 🎸 February the 3rd. 2014. And Tommy I seen you and the rest of the band in the early 80's at the Omni in Atlanta. Man you all Rocked 🎸
I love Tommy Shaw/styx.. who ever does not like him/them have no taste I ignore the ignorant ones who say anything negative about Tommy or Styx... Tommy you rock your an awesome man!!
Tommy is the best vocalist/guitar guy in the business - other front men would have begged off this song in that setting - no support, just an acoustic guitar.
there still around..where have u been...with out Dennis DeYoung though.......Deyoung is off doing Styx material with symphony orchestras around the country....actually pretty good
I think Tommy said he wrote this song when he was on the road opening for the band Kansas, and eventually everything started to become so repetitive and repeating itself out there on the road, that he just felt alone and wondered who he really was. I'm not sure but I think that's what this song is about.
From what I have heard in interviews, it was a combination of two things. The first was that Tommy's brother served in Vietnam. So it was party inspired by him. The second thing the song is about was about Tommy feeling kind of lost and alone the first time he was on the road for a long time on his first big tour with Styx.
His voice is killer. And it still is today. Watch him on Daryl’s House. Unreal.
Daryl was lost
He is the package! Handsome, witty, musical, friendly, fun and unfiltered!
This dude is pure talent but then again he comes from a time when you had to be a musician unlike the crap served up today.
sooooo true
Man's that's the damn truth!!!
One of my favorite guitarists from our time. I have loved their music from my teenage years

I met Tommy back in 2004. What a genuinely good soul. And way beyond talented.

wow what a great song the man can sing when this song came out and how can i get this DVD?
@wwfoleyfan cold war was awesome too
I've often wondered if the 1st Jehramia Johnson Movie (Man in the Wilderness) .. (1970) had anything to do with it.Id like to ask him.
David Spade is so freekin' talented
Anybody knows what year this is
Brian Gingras I think 1997.
Dude is almost as talented as Bustin Jeiber.
You get a camera and play and sing it yourself and lets see how it turns out.
Can anyone describe what this song was about ???
It's about a man in the wilderness.

He actually said in 1978 that "If you've ever been surrounded by water, but have nothing to drink." Awesome song.
