*Win the Team Associated Reflex MT14 here:* raffall.com/368131/enter-raffle-to-win-a-new-team-associated-reflex-14mt-brushless-hosted-by-beyondrc The cheap brands like Rlaarlo, MJX and HBX are winning when it comes to price and how much performance we are getting from some of their budget RC cars. If Arrma, Traxxas and all the other big brands out there could give is a truck that is comparable for a similar price then maybe the budget market wouldn't be dominated by the budget brands! For example the Arrma GROM range could have been so much better. All the hype around the GROM cars and whilst they are really durable and good looking especially the Mojave they are just a bit boring and crying out for a brushless upgrade. This video was to show that you dont always get a better deal when sticking to a big name brand. The 14MT is £80 more than the ROG1 but was it better? I dont think so.. Let me know what you think. Would you buy Big Brand over Cheap Brand and why?
I was into the hobby in the early 2000s then mid 2000s again and again 2 years ago I cannot believe how durable they have become. Early 2000s was waiting all day for a nickel metal pack to charge then it'd be getting slower after a pull or two and a donut, then 2010ish lipo's were making waves by charging quickly and delivering much more consistent power longer but the RCs would destroy themselves.. I personally feel like we're in the golden age of Remote control! Cheap readily available lipo's and nearly unbreakable RC cars makes for more fun driving and less money spent on constantly repairing stuff.
Amen to that! Not to mention these new cars look better, are more scale in appearance, and include all sorts of new features like lights, sound, equipment like winches, etc. It's a great time to be in this hobby!
I was like u I got into the hobby in the early 80’s my grandma bought me my first rc which was a tyco turbo hopper then once i started cutting grass and picking up leaves I saved up for a bandit and a fast tracks and then when I started working at 16 i bought a black foot and after that nothing because life got in the way and I had no time for the hobby and i got back into it in 2018 rc tech and battery tech sure have changed im already on my fifth rc since 2018 i don’t have any brushless rc’s yet im kinda fearful of lipo batteries because they can be dangerous while charging I’ve heard stories about them overheating while charging and catching fire and even overheating inside the vehicle so every rc i currently have uses brushed motors and nimh batteries im just terrified something might go wrong while a lipo is charging I love watching how fast these little guys are
@@jaredharris1970Just get a lipo bag to charge in and a ammo box to store them in, That’s what I do and I don’t have to worry about burning my house down lol.. Trust me once you go brushless and get a few lipo’s you will want to throw that brushed crap and those old batteries in the trash.. 😂 Lipo batteries are 10 times better than the old batteries.. I know all about that crap. Lol I raced hard core from 2000 - 2004, I have 20 - 30 old brushed motors 8 6 cell batteries 2 digital chargers and 20 - 30 tires for a 1/10 2wd in a box somewhere around here.. lol Those things suck compared to a brushed motor.. I have a 1/8 scale 4wd brushless 4S RedCat That thing is insane, It will almost do a standing backflip… You will love brushless and lipos, I guarantee it….
Kids getting into the hobby have way different priorities than us old experienced guys do. My son tried my brushed slash, before I upgraded it, and found it too slow and boring. I bought him a brushless HBX 16889 and he loved it. In my experience kids don't care about size. They want speed, looks, and battery life for a first RC.
Rlaarlo are killing it! I own the Omni Terminator, AK787, and RL14001 (though the performance on this wasn't mind blowing, the build quality compared to the WL144001 - of which it is a clone - is night and day); I've also used a ROG1 and think it is about as good as you can get in that form factor. These are all amazing quality platforms regardless of price! They're fixing to launch the XTS 1:10 rally car (which looks like a modified Terminator platform
Call it perhaps an ignorant thing to say; but I think RC cars are cheap a few injection moulded plastic parts, some aluminum tubes with springs and then some mass produced electronics. It's like airsoft in that it's super cheap, simple stuff but the market for them is so small that they need to overcharge to make the businesses viable. Rlarlo etc. are just giving customers what customers of RC cars expect RC cars to be.
Just grabbed the rlaarlo Omni Terminator carbon edition recently, this thing has every upgrade you need out the box. I haven't touched any of my 6s vehicles since
Just got into the hobby June 15 after a health scare. I’m 51 years old a little late to the game, I picked up a total of 82 RC‘s from 76 scale all the way to five scale and everything in between I posted a few videosof most of my RC’s a few shorts as well and just got another RC yesterday. I will be posting later, but yes, I went a little crazy into the hobby, but having a good time.
I honestly feel like the big brands are too concerned about the “name brand” but I think they are making a mistake marking their vehicles up. The only reason I would see going to a “name brand” for beginner vehicles would be parts availability. I think for a beginner, these Chinese companies are bringing it to the table. Awesome video man!!!
I personally love your content. I love your candor. I do feel like you give a very honest opinion straightforward to the point I like that keep up the good work.
I completely agree that the ROG1 is at the top of the list. That truck is unbelievable, and you simply can't match the price point for the level of performance.
I was going to say, brushed still has a place in this hobby! They still work great for crawlers and generally a lot less expensive than a sensored brushless setup.
Crawling what’s that? Haha just joking not the biggest fan of crawling myself but yes you are right brushed motors still have their place especially with crawlers. When it comes to everyday bashers I don’t think brushed should be a thing 😬
Definitely rog1 in my opinion for the money it’s so much more i picked up the Omni for 200 and love it. Just ordered the big rock 3s think that’s a good choice for my next rc as I have all 3 of the 550 mega that I started with and you are wright I am ready for more then brushed
I have taken to deerc. I just this week took delivery of a 210E, and guess what? £92 delivered. 1/10 scale, metal drive train, brushless motor with 45A ESC AND 2 3S lithium batteries. Value for money and value for fun is insane! Had the 200E for 6 months and the 210E is the same car just with a different shell. I can’t recommend deerc enough for beginners. Perhaps look into Deerc. Side note, I just got my 4 year old Son the 300E for £52. 1/18 scale so small but 2-3S compatible and perfect for the young ones. Keep up the videos bro. 😎
It's all about bang for the buck! I've been in this hobby one way or another for about 20 years, give or take, and I'm LOVING it going after these recent cheap brands! Some of them are surprisingly good (Hyper GO Citroen anyone?), some of them just surprising, and as long as they aren't outright toy grade they can always be upgraded later. Besides, when the day comes that the car is either worn out or crashes so hard it's not worth fixing, it's not very painful getting another, or trying something new. Incidentally, if I haven't said it already, i really love the direction you're taking this channel as of late... focusing on budget cars and equipment. Just out of curiosity, what about the possibilities of expanding your channel a little bit into some other budget models and gear like tanks or construction equipment?
@@beyondRC NO... theres enough of them out there, Ive said it before, DONT change a thing... bloody tanks?? n Tonka toys?? I watch this channel for what it is....think id drift away bringing in that crap.
@@Top-Jimmy hahaha don’t worry not anytime soon. I have a list of ideas/things I may do or video ideas suggested but it’s a pretty big list and I don’t always get around to doing them all. But you are right there are a lot of channels already doing that stuff. The formula on my channel seems to be working and I won’t stray too far away from that 😉
@@beyondRC Yeah mate, youre doin great..Ive got all the big stuff, it great to see you putting these things to the test, Ive got a few MJx's and WLtoys frankensteins ...they are great to mod. Thanks bud, keep up the good work and take care too. 👍
I think most beginners should probably stick to something they can drop off at the hobby shop and be repaired. The Chinese brands are good, but hobby shops won't have those parts on hand. Not in the US at least. An 8 year old kid, I assume lots of us started the hobby young, is not gonna want to wait 2 weeks after Christmas and the hope his dad knows how to fix it.
The smaller scale Chinese stuff is fool’s gold. I’ve had both recently and there is no comparison yet. The smaller scale Chinese stuff could be good for helping someone get into the hobby though
That's okay because a child with a parent willing to teach them can learn a lot about how things go together and work. Hobby grade is for wrenching on. Honestly, it is as much fun as running them.
Rlaarlo is hard to beat. All my friends at work that are getting into RC are buying Omni Terminators and really enjoying them. I can't wait for their new 1/10 Rally car.
As an old man and a newbie, I cant believe how fast these new 3s are. It's more like driving a toy rocket than a truck. They just look like a blur flying past. I like to actually SEE the interaction between the tires and the terrain. I wont say the brand because it seems to be triggering, but for my 1st, I went with a 2s brushless 1/10. At that speed, 25ish you rarely have to repair.
I think you did a great job in your recommendations. The entire list was spot on I have loads of Arrma’s, 4 Traxxas’s, 5 Redcats, 4 1/10th scale Losi Baja Rey’s, 12 MJX’s ( 10 1/14th’s and 2 1/16th’s), 4 Rlaarlo’s (1 Omni Terminator, 1 ROG1 Gladiator, 1 1/4th scale that has a 45A ESC with heat sink and fan & a 2847 3200kv brushless motor with heat sink and fan & it has Droop screws & sway bars front and rear & it also comes with a slipper clutch & lights & 6061 alloy chassis and shock towers and this little truck runs off of 3s batteries. It also comes with a Dumbo Transmitter and receiver and I believe this Rlaarlo truck came out way before the Omni Terminator even came out and it doesn’t (at least in my bashing which was pretty severe) didn’t have any issues with the rear dog bones. It’s like this truck was the first version of the ROG1 Gladiator and if you remove the bodies to the both of them they look very similar. Anyways, I think you did a great job in your recommendations video. I think you were spot on. 👍👍👍💯💯💯💯🤷🏻♂️🙂
i love the losi mini b brushed for kids and brushless for adults! its small quick and super agile! the kids that wanna get into racing would be able to get into it way easier with a smaller more durable car! And dont even forget the brand new MICRO B!!! for just $100 you can get the same reliability on a smaller scale!
Going fast is great, but crashes get more expensive to repair the faster you go. So on a tight budget as many people are currently, it makes more sense to have a smaller cheaper car as they are also, usually, more durable. That said.. the infraction 6s hitting 100mph without upgrading anything other than the supplied speed pinion and good quality lipos. But day to day 1/14 and 1/16 are definitely easier to find places to run.
You can get a haiboxing 2997a or a 2996a for around $150 it's 3s, almost indestructible, and does 45mph out of the box it's also almost the same exact size as the rlaarlo Omni terminator.
good video, i think 1/14th is ideal for a budget basher, but also depends what kind of playground you have access to, if there is a good pump track 5 mins from home maybe a big basher is fun
For sure I just wish there was more budget friendly higher performance 1/10 trucks. Only really have the mjx 10208 and the quantum 2 flux at the moment.
I got the ZD Racint MT-16 which is kind of the twin sibling of the ROG1. Price was EUR 110 (USD 120) including all taxes and shipping, so I couldn't resist. It's a real fun car, instant acceleration, doesn''t flip too easily and even then mostly lands on all fours, plus really stable in driving. Otherwise, I only have bigger cars (mini 1:10 Terminator, standard 1:10 Team Magic) so I don't have a comparison to other small-size beginner cars, but the ROG1 is definitely a winner.
The Rlaalo Omni Terminator, Rog 1, as well as the Arrma Grom’s are all good low $ trucks. I will say the Grom’s parts are expensive though. I almost think it’s better to wait and save to get something like the Corally Kagama 4. That thing is a Tank and is pretty much ready to roll right out of the box. There are a couple things I’ve seen as far as flaws go but one of them is a hinge pin that comes loose. The good thing is it’s super durable has decent-good electronics, can run with speed, can bash and ramp. The real downside is service and parts just because they’re harder to get in the US but have steadily been getting better. Just my opinion as someone who’s still fairly new to the hobby.
Your last few videos really made me think, you make alot of great points. I built a 12s kraton 3 months into the hobby. I realized i dont live with a great area to run its 100mph. A 2500 usd truck thats used less them my armma granite. I never though about real life environments and portability, someone is more likely gonna enjoy the smaller rc than the 12s kraton. . Id rather a dozen RRLARLOS THEN my kraton😅
After a 100 packs of jumping or more my granite esc red wire finally cracked . Glad I have a solder pen but I’m concerned about soldering so close to the electronics . I’m gonna try for sure . I use a damp cloth to cool the wires down . Should be all good . I can do this 👍
14MT is a very high quality mini and I like it-but it’s slow…Groms were and are a disappointment… MJX HyperGo h14bm is a beast and was my go to mini basher…until the ROG1 came home! Brushed are a waste of time. I bought a 2nd brushed Vortek and converted to a 3s brushless because I wanted a 2wd to power up. Brushed it was a 🐢 turtle! Great video!
Brushed motors usually have better modulation throughout the power band. Brushless motors tend to ramp up to full speed rather quickly. Great for speed but not for precision control. I’ve done races with my Grasshopper on a stock 380 brushed motor. Sure, it’s slow at drag racing but I can usually beat a brushless vehicle when running small laps where precision steering and throttle accuracy is more important. The brushless vehicles accelerate too fast. They miss the tight tuns and can’t stay on the sidewalk. Give me a Tamiya and a well balanced brushed system and I’m happy. Brushless systems certainly have their advantages. They have a lot more power and are quite efficient. Larger vehicles and monster trucks pretty much need to be brushless because of their driving capabilities.
The cost of living has gone up so much for everyone since COVID, its no wonder people are far more cost averse, unless youre right into the hobby. I'm one of those people, and have to save up to buy any new truck. Having kids, especially with one who is in the hobby, gets very expensive!! I tend to look for 2nd hand cars, and repair and restore them, if i want an expensive car. If you want to be a snob and avoid the Chinese brands, youre missing out. I have a few, and apart from friction shocks on some, i have very little to criticise with them! 👍🏻
Mugen Seiki is a bit of a big brand but it is small due to it being reliable but not parts necessarily but it is reliable than Traxxas Nitro Cars or any Cheap Nitro, the brand is pretty small and not known but it is a bit, their MTX Series is worth looking at, I have the MTX-2 which is cheap but good in its design, you do not want to get battery receivers, they can do a runaway by the batteries coming out, having a Touring Nitromethane Car is a Luxury to me, those cheap nitro’s with the worst radio box placements isn’t good on those, it’s or nothing but you get a nitro that can sell almost $300 or $400 depending on condition… Mugen Seiki is a bit of a Luxury Japanese RC Brand due to it being expensive to buy nitro’s from them being listed on every rc website or website, they are reliable in price point but value is pretty good… I will keep my MTX-2 and wait for the price to rocket up and hopefully get it to run… That little truck is reminiscent from a Losi but cheaper…
I also forgot to mention that my 4th Rlaarlo is the 1/18th scale that came brushed with friction shocks so I immediately converted it to 3s brushless and put oil shocks in it. It runs like a champ.🤷🏻♂️👍💯🙂
I love High speed and Low price as much as the next guy but when Wltoys or Rlaarlo Shocks start leaking, or diffs cant hold fluid its a deal breaker for me. am I racing a 1/14 MT? No, but i do laps on my backyard track so the racing DNA of the Reflex 14T is perfect for what i need. I've never been able to overheat the "tiny" 2440 motor, its not built for WOT in an open field until the battery dies that's for sure
I'm sure I'm gonna catch hell for this but the legendary thunder 1/10 scale brushless is an awesome beginner platform for the price point which is usually around $119. Don't give me wrong it has its weak points like the CBD's and dog bones buteasily upgradable and just a really fun car that will not break your heart if you end up breaking it.
I think you should have compared the gladiator to the LC Racing Emb mth. That would have been a better comparison, in my opinion. They're more similar and parts support for the lc is good in the UK.
I like Rlaarlo. I got the 14th scale buggy, and it was an absolute rocket, but the esc died, and I've tried putting in different ones but they all cog weird, they don't run right. The lack of aftermarket support really kills the chinese stuff.
Make sure nothing is binding when you roll the car on the ground. It should roll smoothly. Also get a decent ESC, not those unnamed China ESCs. It should not cog at all with a decent ESC. I would personally use castle SW4, Cobra10, Mamba X, or even a Hobby Wing 10BL120 will do. They're all small enough to tuck under the body shell and powerful. If you know how to make your own small custom parts such as MOD1 gearing and shafts to go with it, these Chinese RCs are unstoppable IMO. I have 7 or 8 rlaarlo/wltoys now. Truggies, buggies, speedrun all fitted with 3650-3674 brushless motors mated to MOD1 gears. Super fun and fast. I do however, purchase many spare parts in advance.
I also have about 6 rlarloo and wltoys all 1/14 scales with either 60 or 120 hobbywing combos. 2 of them are with mod 1 gearing which makes a big difference. I agree you do need a decent esc and make sure the motor kv is adequate with your gearing.
The maverick is a great truck for the money and when you think its only £24 more than the 14MT featured in this video! Crazy! the mjx 10208 v2 which is coming soon is also another really affordable 1/10 which is high performing. Big brands need to take note and start releasing some better budget options..
Name brands cars & parts support along with things that Fly, i like & im still very impressed , with inexpensive MJX hiper gos. Smalls vehicles are cute, inexpensive to fix & can be run just about anywheres . Hard to do with two 80 mph Arrmas, and time dont allow it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't UK buyers have to pay Customs Duty on anything 'worth' over £135 plus 20% VAT on top of that for any products imported from outside the UK. When bought direct from Rlaarlo (shipped from China) this makes the ROG1 somewhat less of a bargain depending on whether UK Customs deem it to be 'worth' the full retail price of $199 or the current sale price of $159. Worst/best case is that the customer pays an extra £36/£26 on top of the £122($159) sale price. That's £158/£148 worst/best case total cost excluding $9.99 shipping ... plus possible customs delays if the buyer has to settle duty/tax before the item is released. That said it would STILL be cheaper than UK street prices (if the ROG1 was actually in stock in the UK). For reference the base Rlaarlo AMX-12 Amoril Carbon 1/12th package is £189 in the UK comopared £158/£148 direct from Rlaarlo so it's about a £30-40 (16-21%) saving, excl shipping. What's your experience of getting caught by UK Customs & Excise authorities?
I have a few smaller rc's I think if just for in the garden brushed is better than brushless because it doesn't have the punch of brushless. But I think all the smaller scale should come with oil filled shocks instead of them nasty friction ones
"Budget friendly, High performance, 1/10th scale truck"...... enter the HPI Jumpshot SC flux! I loved mine so much, and they were so reasonable, I bought another one in a different body scheme. Over 40mph, tough, good looking, easy to maintain 2WD, and only 200 quid.
I have the 14mt, just a motor/esc change and some gearing I have got it to 54mph on 3s, the esc can do 4s but not the motor, 3s is about it for the 1007 Castle 6350kv motor. I stay away from those china junk ones, sure you can get spares/upgrades but can take 3-12 weeks and can order the 14mt parts in a few hours to 3 days max.
That new Traxxas Mini Max is a crazy price at £279 in the UK, for a 30mph truck, getting to around £400 if you start adding a few upgrades. Not for me im afraid.
this is the problem. Great idea, parts will be easy to get but something that does 30mph for close to £300 when you have trucks like the 1/10 maverick quantum 2 flux which is also 3s ready and the mjx 10208 which is a 4s beast it really starts to show that actually for traxxas 279 is considered cheap but is it going to be an all round better truck than a lot of the cheaper options.
I was so impressed I did a video… 2nd video was an epic fail… the ROG1 broke a lower suspension pin on its first sissy jump.😮 the pin broke from both ends, the control arm is perfect. 40 yrs in the hobby and never broke a pin at both ends.
Mate, just look at them, the Rlaarlo looks far better. Jerry cans in the back, roof skid bars, light bar (not a couple of spots), 3S capable, Rlaarlo wins. And the Rlaarlo self rights when you turtle it, I didn't see any flips for the MT Reflex 14 either. And price, win win win. Sorry Associated, I do like your gear from what I've seen, but it's not worth it or better. I've a few Rlaarlo's and will get more, the rally car looks promising. The new Traxxas appears slow from what little I've seen already, they'll need to up their game. And yes, Arrma missed a chance going brushed. I'm in New Zealand, I wait for parts whatever I buy so no issue there for me.
They're pretty peppy for being 3s bashers aren't they... My outcast 4s is ridiculous but they aren't fun on 2s you gotta have that high voltage for the real experience
I was thinking of one of these for my son for his next truck but for the extra money I think I’ll get him same as me a mt10. Only one car type to get spares for them
I think it's fairly easy to see that cheap stuff sells better than expensive stuff. Don't need a finance degree to figure that out. But long-term it seems to me that buying major brands saves me time and money, when I compare to friends with WL and Rlaarlo stuff. Of course in the USA, where quite a few major brands are located, probably makes prices closer.
Definitely, since in this topic, I often forget that brands, especially big brands like arrma traxxas etc., the costs are different in different countries, so much so that quality per price rating (and all other considerations to be had, like spare parts), changes the conversation.
heard a lot about this truck and for the money looks like good value. the only thing with blackzon im not sure they are available in many places. Will certainly look into this.
Also I just wanted to bring out an important issue that a lot of people have been thinking about and that is parts availability? The current thought is that is easier to get parts for the bigger brands then it is for the Chinese brands? But is that really true? Because although that should be the case but it really isn’t because I have 2 Arrma Mojave Groms and I’ve had to wait 3 weeks for diffs and CVDs to be in stock because they are constantly sold out and that’s not including the time it’ll take to get shipped to you? And this seems to be a consistent issue with bigger name brands versus getting parts for Chinese brands you’ll find the parts you need immediately and they’ll get to your address within 2 weeks? So the parts availability issue for the big brands really doesn’t hold up much for the bigger brands? So honestly I’d have to go with Rlaarlo and MJX and now another contender to the Chinese brands is the Hosim 1:8th scale VICTORY 3s truggy. Don’t get me wrong I do love my Losi’s and Arrma’s but Rlaarlo and MJX are just perfect for not only a beginner but for people that have been in this hobby for years. I think what should happen is that these big budget brands have to start taking a look at what these foreign (not really foreign because we all know where they’re coming from) companies are doing and get off their high horse and start producing good quality, high performance, robust, good looking vehicles at a reasonable price. Beyond RC is as real and true as it can get. Love your videos Brother.👍👍👍💯💯💯🙂🙂
Exactly the point I was making in this vid. They need to make good, affordable high performance budget models not stupid slow brushed models like the Grom range then demand silly prices of $150+ or they can continue but people will still go for cars like Rog1/hyper go etc
First, thank you for this video...not for myself, but for the countless others who are wondering why companies like Rlaarlo are doing so well. Second, a brief comment on the use of the word 'cheap'. Honestly, I which people would stop using the word 'cheap' when it comes to companies like Rlaarlo. 'Cheap' gives a connotation of "low quality"...and, as anyone who's purchased any of their recently-released vehicles (ie. the AK-917, and all vehicles released after that) knows, Rlaarlo is anything but "low quality". Tried be told, the quality of Rlaarlo's parts is equal to, in not better than, Traxxas, Arrma, and Associated. So, when referring to Rlaarlo, or any other companies producing low-cost, but high-quality, products, how about using the word 'inexpensive'? 😄 Getting to the primary subject at hand, I think I've already touched on why Rlaarlo RCs are a great choice...not only for beginners, but also for those with lots of RC experience. Rlaarlo might only be a 3 year-old company...but, in that short time, they've shown they can produce high-quality vehicles & parts, and do so at a low price. It's true that, in the beginning, everything they sold was just rebranded products manufactured by other cheap Chinese companies...and, that's when Edison (the founder & CEO of Rlaarlo) decided he wanted to do better. The company started designing vehicles & parts in-house, purchased equipment to manufacture the great majority of parts in-house, and cared more about producing high-quality products than high profits. Since then, customer service has greatly improved, the ability to obtain replacement & upgrade parts had greatly improved, and the quality of the parts has improved. I've had numerous live conversations with Edison, and he really cares about not only furthering improvements within Rlaarlo, but also in helping to make the overall RC hobby more accessable (ie. meaning, more affordable). Not only does he have some big plans for the future, but he is also planning bigger vehicles (I can't say any more than that). The point is, Rlaarlo is producing RVs that are just as good, if not better than, vehicles manufactured by the "big names", and the have the ability to offer them at prices much lower than those other companies.
50 doesnt seem like much more to spend for the new mini max and having hobby shop part availability...150 sale price for the Rlaarlo seems like it should actually be the maximum retail for it. 200 is not a good deal when you have other higher quality options out there for about the same or not much more. LC racing for instance has been around for years and they are great.. pretty much what the rog1 is roughly based off of as well. Id rather have a brushed arrma grom over the rog1 personally
I've got 9 wltoys myself. Lol. Caught the bug when they came out and decided for the price of parts and how easy they are to work on I'd buy more lmao.
I think T.A messed up big time with the mt10 price increase. Lost my sale. I've been begging Arrma to offer a Gorgon roller for $90 to $100 or a blx version for $190 to $200 but they aren't listening. By the time I upgrade the Gorgon to brushless, buy the wheelie bar, buy a sevo saver, buy a fan, get a durable body , I'm over $300 !!!! F that , I'll get a 1/10 scale 4s from Redcat or MJX. You know what I mean
That’s the problem I’m so against arrmas current business practices it’s a joke. If a company like rlaarlo can give us a 48mph rocket which also looks good and is durable for 159.. and then we get the groms for the same price and they are powered by slow brushed systems and boring as hell to drive.. makes me wonder what they are thinking. They clearly want people to spend a load of money on upgrades but by the time you make them brushless and upgrade relevant parts you could have got a full size 3s blx!!
Is it possible to buy two wltoys 124008 differentials and 2 sets of cvd drive shafts and put them into a wltoys 124017 to have larger axels that are less likely to bend? Think the diff cups that hold the axels in are the only difference between the 2 differentials? Or is that wrong
Name brands like Traxxas and Arrma have to R&D their own products. Afterward, they have to markup list prices to make LHS’s viable, just like 1:1 automakers and dealerships. Compare that to the Chinese brands that often either rebrand products (for example the Rlaarlo Gladiator you mention) or in other cases simply clone another design, and then, sell directly online or through online marketplaces with no meaningful product support. Cheap brands have their place, especially as an entry point into the hobby, but their “winning” would come at a severe cost to the overall hobby.
whilst i agree i also think there is an element of greed with name brands. The GROM range from Arrma is a brilliant example. For the money they could have easily been brushless. Brushless power systems are incredibly cheap these days. The upgrades for the grom cars and some of the parts are also incredibly expensive. Making those little cars brushless and fun takes the budget close to 300 if no more. Thats 1/10 territory depending on brand. Not a fan of their current business practices in all honesty.
Oh please. These are little plastic toy cars, most of which were designed ages ago and frequently share parts. They also get their electrical components from the same places as their Chinese cousins do. Compared to a real car, the R&D involved is miniscule. The markup on something like an XMAXX has to be insane. That car was designed ages ago and is entirely made from cheap plastic and equally cheap cold-pressed steel bits. You aren't even afforded a decent steering servo for your €1200. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying the car is bad here. Just saying it's most likely dirt cheap to manufacture.
@@JustFun-ho6qy “These little plastic toy cars” are usually blends of multiple types of composite plastics, aluminum, and steel and are generally capable of 40-60mph+ out of the box and surprisingly impact survivable. Improvements in material science and engineering made that possible, not lazy magical thinking. Yes, parts are shared across platforms because tooling factories for production isn’t cheap or quick. And yes, if a model is popular it stays in production. Capitalism 101. The XMaxx is overpriced IMO, but nobody is forcing me to buy one….and so you won’t find me bitching about it. I can practically guarantee though, if your favorite Chinese brand starts offering serious tech support and marking up prices to cover brick and mortar shops, their products won’t be much if any cheaper than the “expensive” brands.
I've always thought Team Associated was a race winning company, they don't have any reason to be in the novice entry level bashing market except to make profit. That's why they offer brushed systems.
these brands might win in initial sales, on paper these values sounds great, and buyer might be happy, till something breaks and you cant get parts "localy" I wouldnt recomend these to beginers at all. Buy cheapest traxxas (i dont even like the brand) and you can get parts everywhere. so unless you have some experience and unless you are willing to tinker with these, avoid them
@@beyondRC it depens, talking numbers, it isnt. Talking value for beginner? I believe most of the beginners would like to be able to get the parts by number they found in their manual, not by guessing what that part is drowned on aliexpress. In my country - Slash 1:16 is around 200€ thats not a lot. Rustler 1:10 is less than 250€
Whether you can get parts anywhere or not depends quite a bit on where you live. Hobby shops aren't really a thing here in Germany. Sure, there are some, but they are so far away from where I live I might as well order stuff online anyways. And when you consider how ridiculously fast stuff gets delivered from China now these days, waiting for, let's say, rlaarlo spare parts really isn't much more inconvenient than waiting for traxxas parts.
@@beyondRC I know what you mean, I did the same: lowering gearing, kv😌. But the difference between brushed/sensored and sensorless is huge. After 5 years of rc "experimentations" 🤭I found almost all RC cars and truck with sensorless systems were sitting on the shelf after couple runs))) HPI Wheely King was the only exception (I don't know what was that magic, but I barely feel "cogging" on sensorless in WK). So I can easily swap sensorless to brushed or sensored. It would be cool if there would be only two options: RTR brushed or RTR sensored brushless. C'mon, it's 2024 already))))😉
Not available in the uk 🇬🇧 I can’t recommend something I haven’t tested and HBX won’t send me one as it’s not available in all locations 👍 even the cars located elsewhere on Amazon won’t ship to the uk. I really need to get one on the channel as so many are saying its good
@@beyondRC also yes. but still, vintage 2wd are fun and not that really expensive. also new ARRMA 2wd platform is way better than most of the cheap stuff.
@@n00b247 i dont agree. the Arrma 2wd cars are slow and boring at times, not fun to drive. By the time you upgrade them its cheaper to just buy one of their 3s blx cars. A good starting point for a child maybe but not an adult.
never had an issue with mine. Some channels who tested at skateparks broke theirs but of course any RC car can break when being landed on concrete. Skateparks have and never will be a good test for an RC car :)
@@beyondRC I don't want to hate this model because it's really amazing, but this problem really disgusts me, I only did a speed test and it was enough for the pins from the front CvD and rear dog bone to lose
The speed rubbish is a load of bollox, seeing people buying an off road car and doing top speed runs with it and moaning how slow it is makes me speechless. If you want speed buy a road car 🤦🏻♂️
lol the thinking of people is more speed = more fun that’s the problem. People are looking to spend the least amount possible with the most performance in mind 😂 difficult crowd these days mate at times
While the ttheme Why are rc manufacturers so lame lazy cheapish. Those cars cold be evolved more basad pn time we in and automotive is and has all so then why rc so behind. Traxxas exa.slash same 20 yrs i get it kinda works why change it. Really makes bad for hobby
@beyondRC on the wltoys 124019 (purple brushed one) rc came with the m2r controller with silver steering wheel. What I'm wondering is what the button right beside the power switch on the controller is. Has numbers 1234 and says mode. Noticed it while waiting 4 batteries to charge so I can test out one of the 124017s and 124019 at the same time to make sure they don't interfere with each other. Plan is to eventually has 2 stock 124017s a single 124019 and a full metal chassis built with 124017 parts and controller all running at the same time. Really hoping I don't have controller interference between any of the models so I can make that work for family racing.

The cheap brands like Rlaarlo, MJX and HBX are winning when it comes to price and how much performance we are getting from some of their budget RC cars.
If Rlaarlo can get stuff to Americans in 7 days they should be able to do the same in the UK.
I can fully agree with that 100%
Rlaarlo are killing it!
Call it perhaps an ignorant thing to say; but I think RC cars are cheap
a few injection moulded plastic parts, some aluminum tubes with springs and then some mass produced electronics.
I appreciate that!
Wtf is candor
I completely agree that the ROG1 is at the top of the list. That truck is unbelievable, and you simply can't match the price point for the level of performance.
I would like to get in the hobby eventually. And i'll say HyperGo has my full attention!
Can’t go wrong 👍
Your right portability comes before the price. I like to put on my backpack and go.
Yeah that Amazon deal for $212 was the deal . I paid almost $300 .
Nice video. Might have convinced me to give rlaarlo a try one day.
Side note, I just got my 4 year old
Son the 300E for £52. 1/18 scale so small but 2-3S compatible and perfect for the young ones.
Keep up the videos bro. 😎
Omni Terminator carbon #1
Highly possible will look into it. Appreciate you like the more budget approach on my channel 👍
Yeah these throw away RCs are pennywise and pound foolish. I am still running Traxxas stuff from the 90s and the parts are at my local shop.
Brushed power shouldn't be an out of the box thing anymore in 2024...."AMAIN!"
You can get a haiboxing 2997a or a 2996a for around $150 it's 3s, almost indestructible, and does 45mph out of the box it's also almost the same exact size as the rlaarlo Omni terminator.
I think the Omni Terminator should have been number one. Or the mjx hyper go 10208....
good video, i think 1/14th is ideal for a budget basher, but also depends what kind of playground you have access to, if there is a good pump track 5 mins from home maybe a big basher is fun
I'll swap ya my entire fleet of MJX's for your Kraton.
HBX has been very good to me. I dont have any problem recommending them to anyone.
For me, the biggest advantage of the 14 to 18 scale cars is how little damage they cause on my backyard track
It all matters where you are going to run your rc car. I built a small rc track and the best rcs for my track are 550 brushed powered.
Exactly the point I was trying to prove in the video 👍👍
Never tried one might have to get one
@beyondRC I think you'll like it. Lc racing products are very very good quality
I like Rlaarlo. I got the 14th scale buggy, and it was an absolute rocket, but the esc died, and I've tried putting in different ones but they all cog weird, they don't run right. The lack of aftermarket support really kills the chinese stuff.
That’s one of the biggest issues. Price/performance they are unmatched as we see in this vid with the 14mt.
I had to order a stock one from rlaarlo. Tried a surpass and hobbywing esc and it cogged like crazy. Put a stock one in and it was fine. On am d12
People like bigger for cheaper, i just got the Maverick quantum plus for 224 pounds. I love it going to buy another
The maverick is a great truck for the money and when you think its only £24 more than the 14MT featured in this video! Crazy! the mjx 10208 v2 which is coming soon is also another really affordable 1/10 which is high performing. Big brands need to take note and start releasing some better budget options..
I@beyondRC I am waiting for the mjx v2 10208, but it's meant to be not in the bugit range
I watched one video on the v2 in America and it doesn't look much different, the ride hight looks the same wich was a problem! But it looked wider
Now that I fully agree with
"Budget friendly, High performance, 1/10th scale truck"...... enter the HPI Jumpshot SC flux!
100%
I have a Arrma senton with a 3s brushless setup, and a brushed 2s setups. In the street 3s is to crazy. When i go to the beache i use the 3s setup
Only one car type to get spares for them
not a bad idea
I think it's fairly easy to see that cheap stuff sells better than expensive stuff. Don't need a finance degree to figure that out.
But long-term it seems to me that buying major brands saves me time and money, when I compare to friends with WL and Rlaarlo stuff. Of course in the USA, where quite a few major brands are located, probably makes prices closer.
Definitely, since in this topic, I often forget that brands, especially big brands like arrma traxxas etc., the costs are different in different countries, so much so that quality per price rating (and all other considerations to be had, like spare parts), changes the conversation.
very underwhelming truck to be honest..... great video mate very informative as usual :)
Thanks 👍
mate you need to try 12th scale blackzon smyter turbo 3s...129.99
heard a lot about this truck and for the money looks like good value. the only thing with blackzon im not sure they are available in many places. Will certainly look into this.
They just give you what you want power, speed and good pricing.
I agree It makes me cringe to see brushed systems in this day and age 🙄
Getting to the primary subject at hand, I think I've already touched on why Rlaarlo RCs are a great choice...not only for beginners, but also for those with lots of RC experience.
The point is, Rlaarlo is producing RVs that are just as good, if not better than, vehicles manufactured by the "big names", and the have the ability to offer them at prices much lower than those other companies.
really good write up. Some very good points!
Id rather have a brushed arrma grom over the rog1 personally
totally entitled to your opinion :)
Sure the 1/14 are great but give the laegendary thunder a try great for beginners sand parts are easy to get
Would the rog1 be a big improvement on my hbx 16889a pro? Or not worth it to buy it then.
i would say so yes. Much nicer build quality.
I´m a WLtoys man myself. There´s too many brands out there, too many trucks to choose from....
I've got 9 wltoys myself. Lol. Caught the bug when they came out and decided for the price of parts and how easy they are to work on I'd buy more lmao.
Because they are all made in the same factory and these offbrands don't need as much profit as the "big Brands"
Amen to that.
Is it possible to buy two wltoys 124008 differentials and 2 sets of cvd drive shafts and put them into a wltoys 124017 to have larger axels that are less likely to bend? Think the diff cups that hold the axels in are the only difference between the 2 differentials? Or is that wrong
Uggghhh I wish arrma was actually easy for me to get but it's just not. No local rc shop and arrma site is only setup for USA sales :-(
Name brands like Traxxas and Arrma have to R&D their own products.
That's why they offer brushed systems.
these brands might win in initial sales, on paper these values sounds great, and buyer might be happy, till something breaks and you cant get parts "localy"
I wouldnt recomend these to beginers at all. Buy cheapest traxxas (i dont even like the brand) and you can get parts everywhere. so unless you have some experience and unless you are willing to tinker with these, avoid them
Even the Cheapest traxxas isn’t really cheap though that’s the problem 😔
Sensorless brushless 🤢🤮
better just brushed🥰. This "cogging" on start up is so annoying.
For me only brushed or sensored brushless.
Highly dependent on gearing. I have ran sensorless brushless systems for years with zero cogging if geared correctly. 👍
What about the 2997A? Not mentioned
Not available in the uk 🇬🇧 I can’t recommend something I haven’t tested and HBX won’t send me one as it’s not available in all locations 👍 even the cars located elsewhere on Amazon won’t ship to the uk. I really need to get one on the channel as so many are saying its good
It seems that people choose small scale... Me and my 5 cars is 1:10 😂😂😂😂😂
The largest is the Redcat Wendigo
I think you are adjusting your throttle dual rate incorrectly. Your sposeda break that knob off! Hit me up if you need help!
Hahaha!! 😝 you got a v2 10208 yet? Sorry just see you do will take a look at that vid later
@@beyondRC haha no not yet, that's just old clickbait. I'm over here waiting with the rest of the normies....
@@VoltUpRC I’ve seen some footage looks the same in all honesty I see the upgrade kits include a lot of the same parts 😂 or am I making that up.. 😂
What’s the difference between this and omni terminator??
ROG1 is 1:14 scale, Omni Terminator is (a small-ish) 1:10 scale. Very similar set-up though, it's like someone put a Terminator in the oven. 🤏
@@matvander5928 lol I’m going to get both at some point
I would never buy brushed
Cheap RC brands are selling and that's a bad thing. Im gonna stay with good old classics.
maybe its time for big brands to give us some better/cheaper options :)
Is this sarcasm?
Rlaarlo rog1 have very big problem dog bone and cvd
never had an issue with mine. Some channels who tested at skateparks broke theirs but of course any RC car can break when being landed on concrete. Skateparks have and never will be a good test for an RC car :)
@@beyondRC you don't drive much
@@jakubaugustyn9817 sure thing :)
@@beyondRC I don't want to hate this model because it's really amazing, but this problem really disgusts me, I only did a speed test and it was enough for the pins from the front CvD and rear dog bone to lose
Bigger more expensive cars usually need more estate , to enjoy . Always buy cars that compliment your scenery.
Very true!
@ I know tell me about it, I’d go back in time in a heart beat when people weren’t twits 😂.
While the ttheme
Why are rc manufacturers so lame lazy cheapish.
