F1 Saudi Arabian GP Thursday analysis by Peter Windsor

  • Fernando! The Spanish Aston driver was P1 on Thursday in Jeddah - quickest of all in the Pirelli soft tyre (one-lap) runs in FP2. It was a slightly different story when fuel was added to the cars, and teams like Aston, Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari bolted on the yellow Pirelli mediums - but there's no doubt that the Alonso-Aston combination is looking head-on at a strong weekend. George Russell was his usual ultra-spectacular self on light fuel in the oversteery Mercedes - while Max Verstappen, on the softs, was P3 but convincingly quickest with fuel on board. Peter Windsor in this video offers his thoughts on the day's proceedings.

Max his long runs were outstanding,Perez and Leclerc also looking good but i guess the Dutch anthem will be played on Saturday.For me as a long time Dutch F1 fan satisfying but for other fans i understand that it could be a boring season.I don.t look at it that way.I recognize the outstanding qualities and skills Max has.And again Peter,thanx for your very wise and professionel comments. Why cant the cars have some sort of proximity sensor that triggers a warning light or an audible warning when they are approaching another much slower car at speed? this sensor need only trigger when there is a certain speed differential within a certain distance - enough to give the driver enough lead time to make adjustment.
    Given all the technology we have today, surely this is well within electronics / engineering capabilities and such a system wouldn't add too much weight to the car?

      A measure of a driver isn’t only reflected in all-time results. The driver-team synchronicity largely rules that metric.
      What of the other greats who could be easily glossed over by such a myopic outlook? Tom Pryce, Stirling Moss and the like?
      Even with that said, Alonso’s competitive longevity is beyond question, and even going down your route, any driver with over 100 needs to be considered as a true great.

    Surely its not that difficult to have one person in the team paying total concentration to the car in front of their driver, and another maybe even for the one in front of that. It’s not like they need to do that for every race, but the idea that a team can’t give their drivers an instant headsup when something happens seems to me just incompetence.

    we all know what will happen on Sunday again - Max drives away. Only safety cars (most likely in Jeddah) will or can make it strategical and interesting race from a pitstop point of view.

      Because the British press, such as Mr Windsor here, had their lips surgically attached to LuLuBelle’s cornhole for 8 + years.

      It is nice to have a nutritionist on board. I did not realize that veganism resulted in reduction of melanin. Good to know. Thank you.
      Question: what do you actually think of the skill of the drivers? Dietary habits….cool to be sure. As for skin tone…….their is so much anger over pigmentation. Why. I, I, don’t get it.
      What do people think of the actual skill level of the drivers (+ the cars of course)? Isn’t this the point, the joy (or despair) of Formula One?
      Please help educate me.

    Early to make assumptions, but it seems to me Hamilton may be getting slower over one lap, either that or Russell is getting faster. Easy to say it's early in the weekend, but generally, if Russell starts ahead he tends to stay there. Anno Domini? Hope not.

    • @wreagfe
      @wreagfe 2 месяца назад

      Even if he gets slower, he's better. Pay attention to what Peter said. That's simply what 7-times WDC do!

      As drivers age, 1 lap speed tends to drop first. Then spatial awareness. Then physical fitness.

      @edcbabc 2 месяца назад

      @@wreagfe I do 'pay attention'. Doesn't mean I always agree with it. But, like I said it's early, he may pick up. It is just a worrying early trend. Having good race pace only goes so far, need to be up the grid to make use of it.
