i've texted with someone from overseas and they told me you have to drop the headliner and remove the screws for the rails. Then you can lift the rails, put something underneath (to maintain the rails lifted so the glass can slide back. It doesn't matter if you can't lift the rears, once it slides back your golden). Then you can remove the torx screws and fix the rails with aftermarket parts or the cable.
I have not done it since I most likely will trade in the car. It cost like thousands of dollars to get this fixed if your out of warranty. if your handy, you drop the headliner and work it from there.
Hello, I have the same problem as you and I need to remove the glass to be able to replace the skates that slide on the rails. were you able to finally remove it? They have told me that it would be necessary to push from the inside while it opens with the button but I dare not, it is not going to be that some other piece breaks. 
I’m going to try over the weekend to use suction cups from Home Depot and lift while someone press the button. As long as I can lift to where I can get under the front tracks the screws, I can then lift the glass off and make repairs. There is no other way from what I’ve heard. Even if you bring down the liner, let’s say you get to the screws and remove the entire 2 rails, you will still have the glass attached to the rails lol.
