In Ontario, Canada, you don't have to take French classes after grade 9 and I hated too but now I have my regrets of not sticking with it. It's funny how much of French I understand from seeing labels, signs, and instructions in French. Currently learning Dutch because I follow the Ajax FC and Nederlands national football team ( Soccer).
NEDERLANDS?! YASH Sorry, it’s just awesome when you find someone trying to learn your language. It’d be fun if you’d come an d visit the Netherlands sometime lol
My problem is I enjoy watching videos about how to learn languages but I don't enjoy actually learning languages, I learnt spanish for 56 days strait but then gave up.
@@Louie9000 Ahh I see, I think I started struggling with this phase. I think tbh you need to remember that language learning takes time. So your Spanish got better that's great, if you practiced consistently remember that you could be conversational I think.
I started this channel to help motivate me too. I've been uploading a video reviewing Korean sentences in Anki every day. I don't know if it will help anybody but it's more like I'm documenting my progress. I actually started it after seeing a thread on your sentence mining video where you spoke Cantonese and said you'd been learning for a month. There was A LOT of disbelievers that I don't think took into account you already spoke Mandarin. I already read a little bit about grammar and learned a handful of words with Memrise and I'm not too bad with Japanese so I have an advantage too and maybe it would take longer otherwise but I'm onto day 7 today of Anki every day and maybe in another 23 days there will be solid proof.
I agree totally that simple tech learning methods are best. Good language course books that come with audio will always be better than programs and apps. For examples, all polyglot types know Rosetta Stone is trash. Even these "spaced repitition" (Anki) while decent, are overrated. Why? Because you need to keep reviewing your course book lessons almost daily, so that automatically creates repetition without needing an app. So, good course books and much practice with native speakers will always be the best way to go. One exception is online translators (like google), those are AWESOME and way better than book dictionaries. Aside from that, studying with books and writing things out in notebooks will net much better results then tech stuff.
actually I know I would be able to speak like 3-4 languages too but I always need to feel my learning have to make sense, otherwise I quickly get the feeling it’s for nothing. I never had enough money to travel and use it so I gave it up. The tragedy is that I really soak languages in like a sponge but I have no discipline because I never can do something useful with it. Maybe it’s just laziness? I don’t know. Oh yes: of course I could have Tandem partners for practice but I have a serious phobia if it comes to people 😂
This video is funny to me because...TA-DA! I'm Brazilian! But I don't watch RUclips for the English, as I'm already fluent, but rather because of the other languages I'm trying to learn - currently, Japanese. Also, I feel a little better know because I speak more languages than this guy and he has a channel about being a polyglot lol
@@bababoozonkie5431 Oh, wow, a typo, how evil of me. How many languages do you speak to be correcting someone on the internet? There's nothing that isn't humble about my comment, confidence isn't a bad thing.
@@polarsquad7748 You know, I've tried different methods for years and nothing seemed to have worked until my latest one. For the past 2 years, I've done kanji only, no grammar, because I think it will get me through the grammar faster once I've mastered all of the writing system. When I tried studying grammar, I'd get stuck once I reached a kanji I didn't know and had to memorize it with no base to do so. In about 2 months, I'm going to finish all the kanji and then start the grammar. I'm not fluent, but it's the first time I've seen improvement :)
@@LuMichelini Yeah honestly I've figured out that learning a language naturally by content and not stuffing your brain with grammar helps because you get exposure and learn grammar naturally for the most part. It's so cool how the brain can just pick up patterns like that.
