I'm sure many people have cried "sell out", but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was done just because somebody thought it would be funny.
If I was a game developer, and a fast food company like Arby's came to me for this, I'd do it just because it's hilarious. Internet loves this type of stuff, so it's good advertising too.

Plague Knight’s called “Doctor Knight” on the toys. I mean, I get why they’d want to avoid using the word plague, but it just makes him sound like the bootleg version of Plague Knight. Doctor Knight, the professor of Malificent’s Knights of No Goodness, and enemy to Spade Warrior!
Spade Warrior could be his JJBA Localization Name, tbh.

I've never played Shovel Knight, so this will be my first experience.
I have never eaten at Arbys, but I love Shovel Knight.

They're probably the best platformer games ever, and I'm saying that as someone who's been playing games since the 80s.So you're in for a great time.
It's strange because the DLC is arguably even better than the original game, how often does that happen? It's technically 4 games in one (or 5 in one if you count the Joustus card game as one)
Probably Spectre Knight is my favourite, with all the wall climbing and stringing combos of jumps together to pass large chasms etc, it feels so natural and its a lot of fun. Plague Knight might also be my favourite, it's the hardest to get used to because the controls are arguably kinda strange (like you don't really jump to get anywhere high up or far away, you propel yourself into the air with bombs instead). But man once you get used to the gameplay, Plague Knight is so much fun, flinging yourself everywhere. It doesn't take that long to become a pro at it and then it just is so satisfying when you pull off a big jump or something.

Dont think so. Pretty sure Treasure Trove was already free if you bought the original game. I guess except on steam and switch. I got it on ps4 and all the dlc was free.

So...you get a DLC from a kids meal, and there's no actual in-game crossover of any kind, and you must own the game to use the DLC?
What on earth is a "launcher token"? Those two words together say, to me, "a token to launch the game", but I'm guessing that's not it.

You need to own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove to use the codes. Basically, when you enter a name at the beginning of a game, you'll enter the code on the back of the toy instead. It'll say you entered a code, and you can enter your name again. Then the game becomes... meatier in some way.
The token is a plastic coin, and it comes with something to shoot the coin. The coin launches out of the thing that shoots, so it is called a Launcher. It just also comes with dlc

Parents buy kids meals for their kids all the time...pretend you got kids, they don't know the truth.
It should honestly be a thing you get in every meal, or if you order specific sandwiches. Pretty weird since the main audience are people in their 20s or 30s, sure, it's a PG game and I can deffinetly see kids enjoying it but such a weird choice.

These aren't really DLC. It's extremely misleading. They're new cheats that came in an update, you literally don't have to visit Arby's at all to use them.

It's gotten to the point where Shovel Knight is known for his cameo in everything instead of his weapon of choice
So a lot of people have been confused about those "DLC codes".
Simply put: they are cheat codes you enter when entering a name for a new save file.
Codes are all the same for everyone: you can find them online on Reddit or Steam pages. The only thing you miss out on is a kids meal toy.
In fairness, kids meal toys can become treasured collectibles in time. A promotion like this which stands apart from others is worth noting.

The codes are just cheat codes, not DLC. You'll be able to use all seven of them regardless of whether or not you buy Arby's food

Someone posted some on the steam community page and the format looked like cheat codes, entered them in and yeah seems to be cheats not DLC, very poorly worded in the ad, plus side means no need to scramble to get them.
