When did we forget that good music can be fun? That's one thing I miss about the 90s. Beck could be weird, poetic, postmodern, but you could dance around your kitchen to it or blast it at a dorm party.
Holy shit I love Beck!!!! He puts folk, blues, funk, hip-hop, punk, rock, jazz, classical into a pot and stirs it. And the finished product is BECK. I love it, I remember watching this as a younger teen...I was instantly a fan. I'm extremely happy he won "Album of the Year". I don't usually care about the Grammys, but I'm glad he was recognized as one of the best artists in music. "Morning Phase" is a great record. Each of his albums are good for different reasons, I don't really dislike any of them. I just go through phases where I listen to some more than others. RANT OVER....sorry.
2:15 I love how Beck almost laffs at hearing the woman scream when took out the whip This performance was stellar and hats off to his drummer guy is all over
I was on the Beck’s Odelay world tour 1996, few ppl knew of him in Portugal, the concert he gave at “Imperial ao vivo” festival in July was the best concert I ever attended ! Holly sh*it what a show ! The beats, DJ Swamp, the choreography !! Still unbeaten today imo 👌
I was hooked from this performance on. I was in HS and didn't quite know what to think if it...but I understood all of the cultural references in this performance and knew I FELT WHAT HE WAS SAYING/DOING 😎🤘🏽... I miss the days of being artistically blindsided and loving it...loving the new sensations of it all.
anything that would be lame in any other band beck makes cool a horn section, guitar and bass player doing synchronized dance moves, a turn table! how does he do it
This is from an MTV Video Award show (late 90's?). I've been waiting for someone to post this vid, thanks! Check out the James Brown dance moves Beck throws down at 2:50! Amazing performance!
Samples aren't off beat accidentally...the horns/sax whatever the fuck are supposed to be on an offbeat because every second drum measure, they come in late purposely and end on time to give a trippy feel. Listen to the studio recording
I'd say the guitar tech was sacked that night, or the guitarist could have tuned up on the quite parts, fantastic vid but the out of tune guitar lets it down.
This is how I learned to dance.
90's please
come back and save the universe
🤣 yes

Had the biggest crush on Beck after this performance.
One of the greatest and most underrated performers of all time. Same goes to the band.

I didn't notice this. lol.. He's usually pretty straight faced, no matter how silly things get. I guess he was surprised.
The sax, the scratching and the moves...GENIUS

I love how Beck does a little dance and then has a guy walk up with a nicely framed mirror so he can suavely comb his hair.
Yeah, just like Morris Day and The Time "Jungle Love"!
@@funkajafuuzy And Morris Day was ripping off James Brown
His funkiness knows no bounds..
Hes a winner baby.. who'd have the balls to put that sh$t together.. brilliant
This was when the MTV awards were worth watching. Beck has better dance moves than Beyoncé.
Jennifer Rodriguez lmao you must be on meth
RustySacks beck wins. always.
Bruce Wayne nah
Apparently no white person has ever heard of James Brown
there were so much good stuff going in the mtv in the 90´s, i guess I took it for granted. i miss those days

Beck used to be such a great dancer! I wish he hadn't injured his back :(
Woaaa! I vividly remember having seen this when I was a kid. MTV was kinda a brand new thing where I lived and Beck was totally mind blowing.
Love this footage, I saw it when it aired...love watching him dance!
Beck! Very good singer, dancer and performer!!! Greatttttttt!!! I loved the panderiro in the end!
I really love his music, the way he could mix many music genres with rock and retro, he's just a genius!!
Just love the music, band, and the Becks moves!!!!!!!!
I've just heard it on my audio cassette right in my recently Sony Walkman!
This is just amazing how we can travel in time...
I see this live on MTV and blow my mind
Love this live version of it.
Tambourine at the end . Changed my life .
This has always been my favorite MTV awards performance
The low amount of views on Beck videos saddens me.
Me gusta mucho esta canción.
Those backing vocals are hot.
He's brilliant.
I saw that presentation live when I was a teenager
back when the VMAs were enjoyable to watch
as a kid watching this I remember thinking this was Austin Powers
BECK IS SO COOL....OMG!!!!
i have been looking for this so long!..thank you for posting..
one of my fav VMA's ever!
I like this song so much
Beck is insane
@vazmon 1997 MTV Video Music Awards... Best year ever!
beck has some sick ass dance moves
I see the tambourine, but not the fan and the whip! What sorcery is this?!
The best performance at the VMA’s in the history of the VMA’s!
this is not a mere man. beck is some form of funk god.
If Lieutenant Commander Data became human, he would become Beck.
Agreed!
Beck has a country sound in this!
Great performance6
This performance was tight!!
Omg it's so great recording LOVE IT
*SMOOTH MOVES BECK!*
I watched that show live and direct, thise where the days mtv used to play real music!
anything that would be lame in any other band beck makes cool a horn section, guitar and bass player doing synchronized dance moves, a turn table! how does he do it
Fantastic
Back when MTV was cool
Justin Meldal-Johnsen tears it up in this vid. Amazing performance of a great song.
that's superb
We want more! Brilliant!
Its funny to watch when some people in audience try to clap in the rythm of this song. And they fail well!
An iconic video

beck & bjork rule the new age music
Love this proformance
muito bom boa performance ao vivo
THE BEST MTV AWARDS
Black shirt with gold necktie, yes. 😁
Hip, redefined!
Simply awesome
VIVA BECK
Fucking love this song
He's more dystopian than any metal guru you can name.... incredibly dark visions
A little touch of Morris Day and Jerome
Hhahahaha, someone screamed when he whipped...
The greatest show on Earth
That's how we do it!
He does Prince because he has the talent/genius to back it up.
As good as he is, even Beck can't make scientology cool.
hahahahahaha, true that homeboy!!
lol he confirmed he wasn’t one
Did he just summon it, or something? I wouldn't put it past him
I love how he almost swallow the microphone at 0:51
Made me randy, baby...Beck was waaaaay ahead of his time...
I love him. So talented. I hope he gets out of that cult.
powerful!
Fucking song!
Rythms make me crazy!
Im 14 years old!
emotions
Samples aren't off beat accidentally...the horns/sax whatever the fuck are supposed to be on an offbeat because every second drum measure, they come in late purposely and end on time to give a trippy feel. Listen to the studio recording
Tambourine's are a Beck's best friend.
3 people are affected by the pollution.
muy prince....muy the tme... muy beck
I swear Reigen from Mob Psycho 100 sings really well
1997
The new solution to new pollution is new dilution...
Inspired a generation of Napoleon Dynamites
Awesome performance but somehow i feel like the tempo is too fast on this..
mi papa, es doctor
Where did he get the tambourine from?
HAS ANYBODEH SEEN MAH TAMBOURINE
I wonder what Justin Bieber fans will say and react about this video???
Scott Walker vibes.
How did he not split his pants?
This is sung significantly lower than album version
Ideally, tune guitars before playing live
yikes, that guitar sounded out of tune at the beginning
Who never needed to copy James Brown to make the performance look cool?
I'd say the guitar tech was sacked that night, or the guitarist could have tuned up on the quite parts, fantastic vid but the out of tune guitar lets it down.
The guitar player did a bloody awful job...
