  • Rare Beck Interview | The Lost Tapes
With his influences ranging from Hank William’s country stylings to Prince’s slithery funk, Beck is a generation X icon like no other. On albums like Mellow Gold and Odelay he self-consciously blended folk, hip hop, pop, psychedelic rock and country into a post-modern mish mash that was entirely his own. This episode of the Lost Tapes sees Beck discuss how his bohemian upbringing on the fringes of LA’s Los Feliz’s neighborhood, his attitude towards touring and some of the influences on his early records. He also opens up about the the themes that informed his then recent album, the critical acclaimed heartbreak ode Sea-Change, a record that would win him near universal acclaim for its emotional maturity and stripped back arrangements.

“Intergalactic Sly and the Family Stone meets Devo fluxes band.” What a great description, and definitely my favorite era of the band.

Looks like he was touring/promoting Sea Change. He's mostly talking about the albums leading up to it and starts talking about Sea Change around minute 11.

he says "you know " a lot ... im surprised because i thought Scientology would have removed any minor imperfections like that .. he's a musical genius tho.. i love most of his stuff and dislike very little of his output
