“It’s important to have roots”.
Beck is an absolute musical genius.
The thing about "cut and paste" is a fascinating portion of this interview. You see a sore point being prodded. The fact is that Beck's sound was so new that people didn't know really how to categorize it, so they just didn't categorize it that well. He definitely has always has multiple sounds, but the through-line is unmistakably Beck. You cannot deny the expertise and craftsmanship in producing the vision of any given Beck album.
Great interview ✊
Those old mtv helicopter action movie interview shots. Lol
I liked his point on cut and paste, and comparing Sgt Pepper. At first I disagreed, but then when he explained vaudeville, and circus music, I thought yea, he's spot on.
My favorite album is mutations probably followed by mellow gold
I think I appreciate becks musicianship a lot
My favorite performances I think are when he uses ‘real’ ansembles but I appreciate his dancing and other stuff too
Good interview
Looks like he’s being interviewed by a vampire
Halloween interview 🧛😆
I thought that that was Malcolm McLaren
how he managed to look like a high school kid at 30 is beyond me
