Yeah early war paratroopers had a hard time as, when they jumped out, all the equipment (which was all loaded up on them, including supplies and the rifle) was ripped off from the shock of hitting the air and the chute deploying. They then hit the ground in pretty much their base uniform and had nothing more than a knife if they were lucky. Sometimes they'd land near others or by the equipment or a ways away from enemies, so they had some kind of advantage, but yeah. They then started to reinforce their jump gear and the mentality behind the M2 eventually spread to the rest of the uniform. Early 82nd airborne to late war 82nd airborne is quite different and drastically improved.

Some of my guys who went through Airborne School had the PASGT with the modifications for a Paratrooper helmet which was nothing more than a crash pad at the back of the helmet bolted on with a Velcro strap that goes just above the chin strap. Paratroopers always had a special helmet liner with straps made for jumping with the general issue M1 steel helmet, all modified and simplified after WWII.

I have to disagree. I really like the look of the M1 helmet

Lmao, ah that suck if it blew off your head while jumping out, but I also own a original Vietnam war paratrooper helmet and it's pretty cool how it's kinda the same design..

The M2 was so great that they stopped using it by 1943!

It wasn’t replaced until 1945 by the M1C, which is very similar to the M2 with just a couple small changes

@@WorldWarWisdom Really? I thought it ceased issue shortly after Husky due to the bales tending to break. I read that the M1C was standard, and the only people using M2s we're training units and a handful of older guys from pre M1C that never got rid of them.
Btw... Any chance of a video on the M3 helmet?
