I love how much personality your newbie tag has! Mine is super shy, which is weird because I am not shy at all in real life. I’ve been on booktube since 2013, but made my current (and only publicly available!) newbie tag about five years ago. It’s odd going back and seeing how much I was putting on a weird affect for the camera, whereas now I definitely record more like a casual, conversational video that is more like how I talk naturally. It’s a fun time capsule.
I’m not sure why this video popped up for me but I’m glad it did. I didn’t enjoy reading until college when I discovered gothic romance books. I’ve been married twice for a total of 38 years and I can’t stand romance novels anymore. I want someone to write about what happens after the wedding. How to keep love alive etc. Now I’m reading the classics and books in Spanish and nonfiction. I loved your video of 20 things you learned from nonfiction books. I only discovered book tubers since Covid and now I’m hooked! Keep making awesome videos and thanks!
I understand what you meant about the glasses. I'm always discovering things about myself that I could have figured out years before, if only I was smart enough! It's like wow I've been doing that for twenty years and it's really bad but now I know and I'm going to stop. And then I do. Thx for the video - enjoyed
I really love it please keep up your fantastic work as your channel is amazing love John from Australia xx looking forward to watching you for the next 5 years xx please stay safe xx
Oh my god you actually were adorable though bb tuber you was so earnest and silly it’s adorable. Also it’s wild how a better pair of glasses and face framing layers can glow you up I feel that so hard 😅
OMG! You were so cute back then! And I am not saying it just because I am a groupie. 5 years ago I would have really thought you were really cool, especially after the parody ending about the camera hand... Also, you had really great English even then. Really impressive! 👌
Lol. I can see why you feel your video was cringe, because we like to judge ourselves. Anyway, I also joined #BookTube and did my #BookTubeNewbie tag video today, which I'll hopefully be posting tomorrow. Wish me luck! 🤭🩷
Am I the only one who thought that outro with the hand was actually pretty funny? 😆 My name‘s also Leonie and so many people have tried to find a nickname for me and every time it came down to like Leo, Leni or Leli and I just don‘t like any of those, so I feel you on people not knowing your actual name 😂
leonies a problem that i seem to have is telling leonie apart from leonie the other one they both are readers for a start 📙 they both put up great videos that i can watch when i feel down they both are bright and draw so well they even share a single town 🏙 and if this one or that reacts to this reacting leonie what will this hopeless poet do when suddenly he sees but three 😐
Your first booktube video was cute. What is notable that is that your pronunciation of the English language has improved dramatically. Don't know if you notice it, but it's a lot better now.
Hi. I'm a 73 year old man who has always read a lot. Since I am thinking of starting a BookTube channel, I compiled a playlist of BookTube Newbie Tag videos, currently at 529 videos. Believe me, your original video would not be in the bottom quartile. More than a little self conscious, yes. Maybe a little cringe worthy at times, but you were being playful and you're no Cindy. You had the good sense to keep it short and took the time to edit. I can understand why you keep it private now, but thanks for making this video. I have rather eclectic and extensive reading tastes which are concentrated very near fantasy and YA. But I have enjoyed a lot of your videos and frequently thought them insightful. Now, if there were just a video that explained all the hand gestures. You talk a lot with your hands, which I find fascinating. Maybe I'm just the wrong cohort and missed all the dance moves generations after me picked up. If not you, somebody needs to make a video explaining all the hand gestures of the under-40 BookTubers for us more mature readers.
it's as if reading the occasional ya book brands your whole reading taste as "juvenile" - and what i've noticed here is that it's mostly the anti-ya snobs making these assumptions
I wonder .... how would you look at today's version of you in 5 years time .... Recently I was looking at some footage of me as a 28 year old ... with mixed feelings (to keep it gentle). Honestly she was cute ... and very 17 year old :-)) Embrace her 'cause she is part of you and will be for the rest of your life. I think you're lucky having her being part of you!
I have a question for any youtuber who may be reading this. Do you have a hard time watching your own videos in general? You know, like when I hear my voice recorded I hate it! P.S. Really enjoyed the video Leonie! Your sincerity in all your videos comes across big time.
Maybe you remember yourself feeling awkward, but I think you come of WAY more loose and confident than most first time RUclipsrs. It still is a first time video 😅 But if I saw that today I'd say "Awee... She's very charming, I'll be watching again".
this video needs a dislike! your first video is so cute, and it is not cringey(not a little bit)! Congratulations for 5 years of Booktube and goodbye 🤷♀️ . . . //I give it a like//
For some reason, your 17 year old version reminds me of Professor Trelawney, if she straightened her hair 😂

You went from Professor Trelawney to Ginny Weasely peak hotness 😂😂❤
happy booktube anniversary!
i love how dramatic baby leonie was 😂 adorable
It feels like 17-year-old you was taking the questions as a personal attack lol. The answers are so aggressive 😂
This is so hilariously cringey but cute at the same time. 😂 You've come a long way
omg little leonie 🥺 happy 5 years!
Leonie of yesterday, Leonie of today, Leonie of the future. Go Leo!
This was really cute! hehe I can see the confidence change❣️❣️
You were so cute Leonie ❤❤
And the "awkward on camera" part is so relatable 🙈😂
the aesthetic of this video tho
✨the flavour is immaculate✨
this was amazing. I am a newbie and found you because I just did the newbie tag myself...so fun to watch your progression! Very inspired!
Why is this the cutest thing on booktube this week omg baby Leo was the best 😄

Hahaha this was a joy to watch. You should do another video where you just go ham with all the dramatic facial expressions and editing again lol.
omg I just love everything about this 😂
Congratulations on 5 years ✨ It was great to reminisce with you. Love your content & you 💖
that was so cuuuuuute 😭 I just started a channel so this helped me accept the fact that I’m awkward on camera right now
I really love it please keep up your fantastic work as your channel is amazing love John from Australia xx looking forward to watching you for the next 5 years xx please stay safe xx

I think I remember watching your first video lol you did look cute!
I think the Book Newbie Tag is really good!! Definitely a video to be proud of :)
This is such a good video idea! Love it!
That was hilarious 😅. Thank you for sharing!
Her facial and non-verbal gestures are so dorky-in a very cute way 😂 😊
This makes my awkward incompetent self feel so much better 😭
Look up pill commercials from the USA... That's what the ukulele music reminds me of lol
haha loved this!!
2:38 THE MEMORIES
yuuuup lol
I didn't think it was cringe at all. In fact, it's probably one of the most entertaining newbie tag videos I've seen.
So inspiring as a newbie booktuber! New subscriber here 🫶🏻📚🥳

I think I’m going to start a BookTube channel and I hope my first video is a little less cringey. Thank you so much for sharing, it is a real gem! 🤗
Loving your videos

leonies
a problem that i seem to have
is telling leonie apart
from leonie the other one
they both are readers for a start 📙
they both put up great videos
that i can watch when i feel down
they both are bright and draw so well
they even share a single town 🏙
and if this one or that reacts
to this reacting leonie
what will this hopeless poet do
when suddenly he sees but three 😐

I think we all agree that you seriously underestimate how cute your early videos were.
Ohmygosh you were so small!
both the video and your earrings are 10/10

That glow up though! Even though Leonie was always cute 😁
You have grown so much!
Happy Booktube-aversary!
Everyone's old videos are cringy HAHAHA
Adorable. And you personality was more or less the same. Amazing XD
omg 9:43 yes yes yes this is SO true
it's as if reading the occasional ya book brands your whole reading taste as "juvenile" - and what i've noticed here is that it's mostly the anti-ya snobs making these assumptions
yes it's so odd!!
I just uploaded my booktube newbie tag. I hope I can look back five years from now and cringe at it, because it means I've grown as a creator. :)
I STILL REMEMBER WATCHING THIS WHEN YOU JUST STARTED HAHA
woahhh cool
I loved this 😂😂😂
it was so much fun to make!
first watching this i thought there was some major doom coming with that sound starting at 8:31 lol
Your voice sounds so different haha,,, but you seem so much more confident!! Still was cute tho
I just posted my first video today...thanks for making me feel better about it.
Genius right from the start
Why did I not watch this when it came out?
I wonder .... how would you look at today's version of you in 5 years time ....

Dystopians aren't the center of attention anymore because we are living in a dystopian novel. 🤷
If you’re looking to get into urban fantasy and haven’t read The City We Became by NK Jemisin, I highly suggest it!
this is hilarious 😂
i want to cry and laugh at the same time
Great video!
😂😂😂😂
I mean this makes me feel better about my awkwardness starting out haha

Honestly, I hate it, but since I have to do it to edit, I got used to it after a while!
If I remember correctly, 10 years ago or so there was a limit to how long your videos could be, it might have been 10 or 15 minutes.
You look really different now
That was so cute nawww
Nice haha it's just cute
you have an interesting character arc from cringey teen to confident booktuber...
No one should have to look at their teenage self, maturity is a great thing.
hey i make beats i play them on my pc id love if u would check them out i do samples every once in awhile too tell me what u think
This is prettyyy prettyyy jokes
No judgements.... honestly... I just think you are really sweet and cute 🔥
hahahahahah i love the cringe in your face
I don't see anything to cringe about in that video. Of course, your current videos are more polished, but that is only to be expected.
Maybe you remember yourself feeling awkward, but I think you come of WAY more loose and confident than most first time RUclipsrs. It still is a first time video 😅 But if I saw that today I'd say "Awee... She's very charming, I'll be watching again".
