Nene, the oldest female gorilla, was angry with Shabani, the silverback gorilla, and chased him around during breakfast.
Nene, perhaps because of the recent cold weather, sometimes returns indoors with her food during breakfast and eats indoors alone.
On this particular day, Shabani spotted Nene returning indoors and tried to surprise her inside.
Nene was angry that she was interrupted from eating and chased Shabani around.
Just afterwards, when Shabani tried to go back inside for lunch, he was worried about Nene who did not come back inside, so he kept waiting for her.
Shabani may mess with Nene, but he is actually very concerned about her.

@@helkas3316 I think anyone who's watched this gorilla family for any length of time realizes that. Shabani loves Nene, he just likes to tease. Her reaction is so over the top, though, I find it humorous, which my comment was supposed to convey. Happy New Year to you and to the Shabani troop and Something About Gorillas!
Shabani's always loved a game of chase, ever since he came to the zoo to join those two females he would often tease and provoke them until they got seriously mad and chased him away. He was very young and maybe was used to living with other young males and never quite understood that female gorillas don't always want to play in the same way, especially older ladies like Nene. It's good that he has his son to play with now.

What the hell's with those spikes sticking up in the yard, at around 2:20? The gorillas could injure themselves if they were playing or fighting near them. Odd to see as these gorillas otherwise seem so well cared for.

What does the basement bedroom look like? Can Nene manage climbing up and down with her arthritis?
Nene has arthritis especially in her legs but she has great upper arm strength, she is really fast climbing up the ropes. She is amazing for her age. Thankful to all of the keepers and medical staff for keeping her healthy and mobile. 🙋♀️🦍🇬🇧

while watching this video, I wondered who is the real star of the show: Shabani or Nene? (or, maybe the chimpanzees next door?).
I DON'T THINK GENTARO IS A GOOD MATCH FOR ANNIE... BECAUSE GENTARO IS STILL GROWING INTO ALL THAT SKIN AN FUR... PLUS HE STILL FIGHTING FOR HIS MOTHER'S AFFECTION AND PLAYING BIG BROTHER WITH KINTARO...THIS FAMILY HERE IS SO PRONED TO VIOLENCE LIKE THE CHIMPS...TOO MANY VARIABLES..TOO MANY GROWN SILVERBACK MALES AN YOUNG SILVER BACK MALES PLUS FEMALES AND CHILDREN AND YOU SEND GENTARO TO THIS FAMILY THERE WILL BE DISTURBANCES
Annie & Gentaro might have a better chance if they had their own home. If they drastically renovated Shabani's old enclosure it might work.
