- I redesigned my tool storage system and tool deployment workflow. In this video we take a look at how the Milwaukee Packout Drawers are game changers from an efficiency and ease of use perspective. I show how I'm utilizing a folding ramp now with my van as a part of my system for getting in and out of my van as well as moving tool boxes around. Hope you enjoy the video.

I'm jealous After 40 years of sloshing in the mud .Frying on a roof and trimming homes built by gorillas . I finally had a similar rig " not quite as sweet ".. Then had to sell it all after I caught a bad case of Stage 4 brain cancer . I'm jealous !! . Lol .. Do well young man
hope you are doing better now.
Compared to many out there, you should be truly proud of how you earned every dollar in those 40 years. The society often conveniently forgets to reward, in an equitable way, hard and dirty work. Wish you the Best in your life.
@@radchander Thanks . My Drs and nurses have fought hard for me . The cancer as of Nov is undetectable . Which is unbelievable . Sometimes I have wondered how my life might have turned out had a chosen a different path . Instead of smashing fingers and breaking my back . At the time in the early 80's . It was either wash dishes or make a few buck more a day humping lumber . Sometimes I have wondered why carpenters are seen as mere grunts . The only reason I think it is that way , Because seemingly everyone has done it , From installing a door knob to building a picnic table makes one expert . They see it as easy , Throughout my career . I have seen so many even on a job , "It's not that hard " and then you hand them the blueprints and they soon hand them back , Or you run into others that say " All you gotta do " . Then as you yourself do it , "See it wasn't that hard " they'll say .. to which I sarcastically think " Well I just might of got lucky again . .. Nah .. It couldn't have been all those years of knowing how wood reacts , how to perform magic , How to decipher plans , .. Just Luck . .. Seen too many that smash and hack , Painter needs a pallet of caulk .. I have alway been odd in many ways . I refuse to do things wrong . I will charge less if they allow me to build it better . Which is very odd to many " Wait a minute , You will build it better ? and charge us less ? .. What's the game ?" .. My reasoning has always been . If I ashamed and I cut corners . It will hurt me and is of less value to me and to you . . It's a great feeling to be paid , to be thanked and make lifelong friends with customers , Being picky and finding ways to do it ironically faster , cleaner , better is so much more pleasing . Personally I have seen too many ascend to the clouds after a few years of bending nails , They get out of the laboring part , The leadership part and become what I call " Windshield Carpenters " .. That drive up , hand out checks , tell you All you gotta do and drive off . I always saw a need for experienced carpenters to be on the job , and the highly experienced ones most importantly . To lead , To riddle out , To teach and to be there ..
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Glad to hear you be cancer God bless
This guy is just amazing... Such a great mentor for anyone willing to learn and it's free. And the way he puts the videos together seamlessly and seems as if he does very little editing. I love organization, probably because my parents aren't, and I've just become like them and struggling to change with nowhere to look for encouragement but here I find it. And a like minded person, who's changing the game in so many ways. You should be EXTREMELY proud of yourself and thank you for your help. I hope someday, after 20 years of building and doing it all, I can be as organized and have a nice can/truck, tools, house, business of my own. I fell of track ten years ago and I have to say it's been hard to find encouragement but I find it here so thankyou so much! Keep up the great work, God bless!
Thanks! Happy to help! 👊
Your care and attention to looking after your body while working is such an eye opener for me. It’s so easy to get into the habit of struggling and straining your body to save a few seconds here and there
I do my fair share of struggling also. I just try and avoid it when possible.
people in the trades are conditioned to accept punishment. They think they have to do it in order to make a living. It's like a perverse desire to destroy yourself.
Excellent system! Man - to save half an hour + and all the energy carrying when packing up at the end of the day, when you’re dragging butt anyway - that is a game changer.
Golf clubs in the van at all times! you rock! What an amazing carpenter you are. Love your videos. I have been in construction for over 30 years, and you are amazing.
Love the club's ready at the door. You have your priorities in order my friend !
I own a Finish Carpentry business in Michigan. About 4 months ago, I decided to put everything on wheels as well. I also bought a ramp... Love it all! I now have a Gorilla cart, I put my compressor and hand tools in, to get into the job site. ( I work out of a trailer with a ramp ) I use my metal folding ramp to get into the house. Real back saver if ya know what I mean. The older we get, the phrase, work smarter not harder, makes all kinds of sense. Really dig your idea for the Stabila storage. I've been trying to come up with something. You do good work and I like you are always trying to have a system, to get things done in a quick fashion. Keep up the great work!
Hey Spencer, If you get a minute, go to my FB Page ( D & D TRIM LLC ). Check out a recent pic of the guys having fun on the job site, nailing on base. It's hilarious! Brought a new small adjustable shop stool to the job to install hardware and apparently nailing base.
This is the definition of working smarter and not harder. Saving your body for retirement!
5 minutes to deploy all your tools you've mitigated time loss to a minimum, now you set like a jello to hang a picture. Now seriously that's one of the better van setups I've seen in my 35 years as a carpenter well done.
Spencer, you really should make the tool deployment section of this video into a "short" it's great to see for guys who are moving over to a ramp and wheels, like I am
Well done Spencer! I have spent countless hours looking for a specific tool, and or damaging other tools in search of whatever I am searching for. Very inefficient! Nice to see a well thought out storage system! I am in a pickup, so a different beast.... A van and your system is the way to go! Thanks for the inspiration!
The way you did this is quite efficient. This is a great way to utilize a small space. Any tradesman could watch and use your ideas for their situation.
10000% best setup I’ve seen. Thanks for posting. I love that this setup will work for damn near any construction trade.
You're absolutely right about the wear and tear on our body in and out of vehicles especially Vans I have one also. So what I did was just got to help her saves me so much wear and tear on my body..
Great to see a young man looking up after himself as you are it does take a toll on you as the years creeper van looks awesome awesome myself I have never had one that organized pack out system or something I’m gonna look into now appreciate your video keep on Truckin brother
I worked out of an E-450 diesel with a 15ft box and an attic for years. I loved working out of that, but I was never this organized, and being a remodeler I kept way too much with me! It was like a rolling Home Depot! This looks awesome. I have some of the packout stuff, and it is awesome! 👍
This is amazing!! I'm not a carpenter anymore, but do own a bike shop and work mobile at times. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful setup.... i was a carpenter years ago and I admire your organization.... great job
That is badass. I'm a retired firefighter and everything we did was hard on our bodies; especially lifting obese people several times a day. You're very wise to create a system that spares your body. I'm just getting into the packout system for my my own shop now that I'm retired and renovating my house.
Working on getting my rig set up in the same fashion.I stumbled across your video researching different types of ramps,I think your ramp set up is exactly what I had in mind. Thanks great job!
Tools to and from the jobsite take up more time than I'd like. You've developed a great system! Thanks for sharing it as well as the info on the ramp...looks like something I need.
big fan of all the vids and always special when you show us around and how you operate .... you a generous person to share sooo much.
Way to be organized! Thanks for sharing and can't wait to try out some of your ideas!
nice layout, love the pack out drawers will be adding to my rig as well, thank you for sharing.
Man, I agree with you so much on the benefits of the drawer system. I'm from a welding/fabrication trade where we go on site a lot and work so a traditional rig welder layout was not applicable for us. I got so tired of digging for tools in a bucket after carrying it to the destination. I immediately saw gains in productivity on job sites with the system.
Your organization speaks well of your work. Very meticulous and thought out.
Awesome - you always have the most efficient methods! Thanks for the vids!
You can get a hand truck that is designed to climb/descend stairs, it has three wheels in line on both sides. Mostly used by appliance delivery guys. Great well presented videos. Keep up the good work. Stay safe guys. Pete (Scotland UK) 👍
I think that Milwaukee is going to turn that hand cart into a electrical stair climbing dolley. Maybe!
Lov ur system..I just got 20’ truck with a lift on the back, now I need to design for m work…great ideas ur video really inspired me…thank u brother
Cool level rack, I mounted all my level to the ceiling of my trailer with fastcap level racks! I also have my tracksaw tracks mounted to the ceiling with mounts from fastcap. Nice setup you have!
Great setup mate, i don't really do the same kinda work that your involved with but have been inspired by your way of thinking and have implemented this into my own van setup. Thanks again dude, always love your content. Keep it up
Packout drawers are revolutionary for all work trucks
I just got a Spriner van and gonna try to build something like this. Already have the packout drawers, now just need some plywood. Thank for the video. I watched it like 10 times
Glad to see you have your priorities straight. Nice weather... clubs always in the truck, ALWAYS.
Great setup. But one suggestion:
Move the ramp to store at the back door. That way you are already standing on the ground when you set up the ramps. You never enter the van until the ramp is set
it might possible.. but i might not fit cause the hight might not possible to put it back there.
You could keep the ramp on the floor? Then when you open up the back, you just have to slide her out. If you need to move stuff without it, you could stand it on the ground and lean it where that miter saw stand lives.
Terrific setup Spencer. Really like the level holders, bungee cords and dolls. Having evening on wheels makes such a big difference. Ramp is a game changer!
Yup! Perfect set up Lad, golf clubs right inside the door...PERFECT!
Nicely done!
I finally bought a trailer, & made sure it had a ramp door. So much better than working out of my pickup, with all those tool boxes.
I love your message about taking care of yourself. Work takes a toll on the body as it is.
Ramp door! And mine is an extra 6 inches in height.
Just had to wait and kept looking - enclosed trailers are scarce. lol
Excellent ideas 👍 thank you for sharing. I will be using this on my van for sure . 🙏🙏
Thanks Spencer! I’ve been waiting for drawer pack outs too.
Excellent system, great for your back and health. Work get done more efficiently.
You're such an inspiration and always make me feel like a first year apprentice
First thing I noticed is the Golf Clubs, I knew you have style...I would use many of your ideas, if I still did this kinda work. Always enjoy your videos. 😁
Might have to bring out the ramps for your caddie to reach those clubs. The valets at the country club know how to drive a step van?
Thanks for sharing all of your good ideas and techniques.
SIMPLY FANTASTIC AND SO PRACTICAL, EXCELLENT JOB THANK YOU FOR SHARING 💪🏼👍🏼
Great job on the van layout looks really functional. You have some very cool ideas. Keep it up. Thanks for. Really helpful and practical content.
When there's a "wheel", there's a way. Those bungee retainers and level cleats is definitely something I would do. Nice work Spence. Instead of the copper clamps (for bungees) you can get some PVC ones...and file/smooth out the inside edges on 'em.
Wow thank you sharing and inspiring. Excellent set up
Incredible professional setup. Wishing you good health and safety. 👍
I drove a high top van for about a year and really liked the room plus I had a small work table for replace fan motors or other things but getting into alot of drive ways with tree limbs was my biggest obstacle that's what led to going back to a regular van
Just had lower back surgery do to years of abuse climbing
In and out of Van's and heavy ladder use only if they had packout
Systems 20 years ago good work sir take care of your body and you have a great organized system.
Idk what cost more the van or all his pack out boxes!
thanks for sharing your system, I am about to start setting up my van and this has been super helpful.
Well done! I love it!
Awesome work Spencer that is the hot setup and crazy efficient.
Great ideas. Looks awesome. Good job.
Another great vid. You have the best carpenter videos on RUclips, thanks again.
Excellent system! 👏👏👏
You're on another level. Lots of time saved for golf
Thanks for videos! Just finished setting up my first Ford transit 250
Always great to see other great ideas
hands down best set up I've seen. Good job.
Excellent video editing and production. I am going to follow your superb suggestions for outfitting my new van. Thank you, Spencer!
You always seem to have super cool ideas thank you
Thanks 4 the dolly made one, also u can use pack out as a base on the miter saw stands putting the saw onto plywood with pack out feet
That is a nice set up. Thanks for sharing!
Love the hand cart and ramp - I use the Magliner Gemini Jr. - hand carts are big game changers - you should however look to get a small curb ramp - I have found that curbs take as much effort as three stairs - I love my Magliner curb ramp - great video
You mister are a very talented carpenter!! Love your videos
Great thinking and design, and your video is well done. Thanks!
Looks great! Very user friendly.
Love the ramp idea!
Milwaukee should be paying you for marketing their products.
I just got my first 2 drawers and they are legit 👌🏽
Great idea
I love the ramp
"For Emergency Situations" LOL, all year long brother
I like the level blocks!
Nice set up! Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
GREAT video, thanks!
Ha first thing I noticed was the golf clubs! Good set up got me thinking I should have a van for the guys.
Thank you, this is the solution I have been looking for.
Great setup!
beast set up!!
Awesome setup!!
Bravo! Nice setup and good video.
Great idea with the bungee cords
I like those cleats for the levels! I've been just using wall hooks, I like that tight fit.
The bungee retention system is brilliant 👏
Great video Spencer. I Appreciate the content!
Great job man, I really love it.
Great setup you have. Love your videos they are very informative
Great video ... appreciate your organization... 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Super nice setup

This is best yet!
That’s a beautiful setup man!
Great setup
The bungee chord setup is great.
that vid took alot of time,,effort Thanks lots of good ides here was looking at the new xl tool box,,but those drawers are the nuts1
great setup!
I had a van similarly laid out! It made my MAW close to the limit before I even put tools in it!
