Even though I don't skate anymore I will always wear skate shoes because I am still a skater at heart, I have some Evolutions,Ciero's,Shell Tops,Samba's, and Marathon 10. They are solid shoe's and are super comfortable. sorry I know this about skating but just wanted to add my consumer props.

Right before the crack, lift your front wheels up enough to get them over the bump/crack whatever. As your wheels are in the air, do a small hop. Hop about 2 inches in the air as your front wheels are passing over the crack/bump. The board will just stick to your feet while the back wheels hop over the crack.
