This was the video that made me wanna get a longboard and whenever i feel down about riding or lose a bit of passion about it i just come back and rewatch this and its instantly reignited.
took a long break now im back on the grind. Bought an OG freeride 41 board from you guys a few years ago and just bought an apex 40 diamond drop!! LETS GET BACK TO LAYING THANE@@originalskateboards 🔥
Its been 5 years since I've seen this video, this is the video that made me start skating. 5 years ago I was watching random gaming videos in my room when I accidentally clicked on this video. I thought it was just some ad for some stupid skateboarding company but a few seconds later I started just listening to the music, then I watched the video and begged my mom to buy me a long board for my birthday. I got some 42" Amazon board, and the rest was history. I'm 18 now, and I've attended multiple slide jams, gone down hills at speeds that no person should be at on a plank of wood with wheels, and made life long friends who have transcended beyond just a skate crew. skating helped me alot through my young teenage life, and has always been there as my escape. If this video was never made, my life would be drastically different. Thank you Original, -Will Also, I've never bought or rode a single one of your boards. Rayne and Comet always seemed better.
Hands down a top 3 favorite vid from Original Skateboards, I don't know how many times I've watched this video over and over again. Makes me want to take my Drop Freeride 44 for a ride again :']
I was 18 when this released. I picked up a board and haven’t put it down since. I’m 29 now and still loving it. Thank you for inspiring me to do something I truly enjoy even to this day.
This video is where it all began, this video motivated me so much to get my game on, not only in terms of skate, also in my life. Now after 3 1/2 years watching these 4 minutes of awesomeness, still gives me goosebumps and makes me so dedicatedly pround to be part of this brand/team. I thank you a lot Original Team Longboards by Original Skateboards
know your true value and preciousness even if people would not acknowledge. be careful. wishing you the best, peace, health, wellbeing, blessings and all good
This is the video that got me into longboarding. I cant stop watching it ever since it has been posted. I got one of your boards as my first and i just loved it! Cheers to you original, for making my longboarding experience anamazing one.
Ah man thanks for watching Kynan, even bigger thanks for the support picking up a board. Sometimes things just click. That happens with boards as well as with videos. This is DEFINITELY a video that clicked when we made it and still clicks for me years later. Hope that board you got has treated you that well, if it has we are pretty on target for deck-wise as well. Thanks for the good word!
Goes fast man, to think we rode / made this a couple of years ago blows my mind just a little. Fun to look back on... making me think we gotta get some of these new construction / concave improvements in on those Freerides 41s etc.
Lennard Woesthoff It's always fun to have hills but with the right equipment it can be a lot of fun to ride flats, or parking decks, or whatever it is that you DO have. Check out the Pintail 40, Pintail 37 etc, we designed those to work specifically on flatland / small hills. Lots of carving and a ton of slide initiation (though it's specific to slower speeds / flatland as mentioned). The main thing is, always be riding. Regardless of whether you have a hill or not.
@2:32 still gives me chills when that drop hits. This is easily the video that inspired me to get into longboarding and I still to this day take my Freeride 38 to the shops to get bread
no joke.you guys are the best cross-country longboarding crew i know! theres probably not one area in america where you guys havent been. and you do a very good job at the background scenery btw
Sure you can. The main thing to remember is that you CAN slide any board. It's just that some boards are designed for it while others are designed with it as a secondary goal. The Pintail 40 etc that we design here at Original Skateboards are intended for light surf style sliding, but their main goal is carving. That said I have taught many people the basics of sliding on Pintails and then moved them to something else : )
Dude. For real it does. I was going back through my engineering files and found these boards. Obviously you guys saw this stuff in 2011 but the designs were all the way back in 2010 then prototyping = release in 2011. So basically right about .... NOW is the 10 year anniversary of the project starting. That said its sort of depressing that we never got to go back over and improve these things. God knows its about time and it for SURE is not a dead end (even though Drop Throughs are obviously not en-vogue at the moment). Regardless I am so fucking stoked to hear this video got you into riding. Hopefully watching it back gets you out on the hill again even all these years later! It for sure does that for me (hence the reply to this comment hah!)
There were a lot of different setups in this video. 95% of the boards ridden were the Original Freeride 41 ($99.00 for the deck). There are a couple of Freeride 38 shots and a Apex 40 DoubleConcave (in there for fun). As far as trucks it depends on the rider, lots of Bear 852s a Caliber 44 here and there and some Paris trucks as well.
The Apex 40 DoubleConcave makes a sneak appearance about half way through the video in one of the bombing shots (the one with ultra blue sky where the grass is super close to the lense, not sure the time code). This video came out before we released the Apex 40 so we thought it would be fun to sneak it in there. Its fully available now and has its own video (search Apex 40 Longboarding on RUclips). Sweet board for sure.
Hi Hailey boo! If you haven't ever tried it, you need to asap.. you will get hooked for sure. The Pintail series are great boards for beginners because they are easy to learn on, and they are meant for cruising and carving purposes. Watch the Pintail video on Original's youtube channel to see how they ride. You can also provide us with your height and weight and we can narrow down your choice between the four different sizes. -Lindsay
I remember watching this as a kid thinking these guys are crazy talented! im watching this now as an adult thinking the cameraman is on a whole other level!!
Depends, Really speed wobble is 80 to 90% base in rider skill. Of course having the right equipment does count for something. Having your weight on your front foot will help a lot at the beginning, the main thing to remember is that you need to practice stopping (and know how to stop at any speed) prior to learning how to go fast. Learn to stop by learning to coleman slide (hands down with slide gloves) that will let you push your speed up and learn board control going faster.
You have a lot of options bogo, The decks you see us riding in this video are Original Freeride 41s (mostly). Drop through decks like the Freeride 41 easy the initiation required to get your first slides started. Since for most beginners this is the hardest part, we usually recommend a drop through or double drop (like the Drop Freeride 41). The Apex 40 DiamondDrop is also dropped, but is built out to withstand freestyle abuse, hence the price difference ($219 deck vs $99 for a Freeride 41).
What board and trucks are you using? If you're using Original trucks, you can get a white heavy tension spring for more stability, but we recommend not going faster than 25 mph. If you're looking to go faster, you'll want a bushing truck. If you have a bushing truck, you can get harder bushings, change up the angle of the baseplate (depending on your truck), or get a precision truck. In the end, experience is key. Having no experience even with a stable set up can still result in wobbles. -Linds
Hey Omega, You have some options for sure, depending mostly on what type of riding you would like to do. For cruising and carving on small hills and flats I like to get people your size started on a Pintail 40, its flexible and poppy for carving and gives a lot of control for you to learn to control your direction. For adding a little sliding to that cruise check out the Drop Freeride 41. All that with some tricks? The Apex 40 DiamondDrop would be great, or the Arbiter for downhill.
Depends on the shot / clip. Top speeds here are between 45 and 55mph. Most of the slide stuff is 30mph to 45mph. It depends on the rider, the hill and the technicality of whatever it is that they are doing : )
Got my freeride 41 R/C a few months ago!!! I went from never riding a longboard to riding every day its even a part of my commute to work now. As for now I ride casually switching my Orang Stimulus to Sunset LED's for night boarding, I'm pushing my travel distance further whenever i can, What is the best truck set up to minimize leg/foot fatigue over long distances. Thanks for the steezy board its been a real life changer for me. Keep doing what you do!!
To me that depends on what kind of riding you are going to be doing. If you slant more towards carving and cruising I would definitely say the 50 degree calibers would be my pick. Particularly when you are just getting started the amount your trucks can turn will open a lot of doors as far as slide initiation. Once you KNOW how to initiate, a lower degree truck can comfortably give you more length in your slides (at least thats what I have found)
The sliding you see in this video is partly for fun, partly for to develop skills and MOSTLY to slow down. The fact that these guys are so comfortable with the more stylish slides is just a factor of their mastery of the basics required to slow down. It seems crazy but its not as difficult to learn as you might at first think. Get out there and ride!
All I have to say is what an amazing board. I borrowed a Rocker 38 from a friend and am amazed at what is can do. Will be defiantly be buying my own very soon. Its freeriding perfection!
Slow freeriding is sort of a forgotten art, not that many people talk about setups that will be good for it. Generally there are two types of setups that I usually recommend for that sort of stuff. #1. Shortwheel base topmounts (the Arbiter 36, or even the Arbtier KT) work well, as do double drops (like the Drop Freeride 41). It really depends on what you want to do, more carving, more sliding, more stability?
If you're just learning how to slide one of the hardest parts might be breaking in wheels so you can slide. When people are just learning I usually suggest going with a pre-broken in wheel like the Orangatang Stimulus 83a wheels. -Lindsay
It all depends on the board. If your board is already suffering from some damage due to impact hits and then is submerged in water, it's possible the deck could start to warp. But for the most part, as long as you let it dry you should be good. -Lindsay
Hi Bob! Thanks for letting us know your height and weight as this is key information to help us help you choose a deck. Could you let me know the type of riding you're interested in doing so I can help you narrow down your choices? -Lindsay
You're right, there's SO many types of boards out there which make it hard to narrow down your choices. We can help though! Please let me know your height and weight. Also, do you have a certain style of riding you're looking to do? Do you just want to cruise and carving around, or maybe do some freestyle tricks, or high speed downhill riding? Knowing this info will help us narrow down your choices and find you a set up that you'll enjoy. -Lindsay
hey . this friend really inspired my friend to get back on the board . he was bombing downhill and just dropped but then after this he is back and wanting a longboard - thanks guys
Hey Lee-Ann, Stoked to hear you are getting into freeride / sliding etc. How tall and how heavy are you? Couple places to start: the decks you see in this video are Freeride 41s. Personally my favorite and a great place to start learning (imo) is the Drop Freeride 41. Super easy initiation (a lot of times initiating the slide is the hardest part to learn). Alternately you could look at something more Downhill focused like the Arbiter 36 or Arbiter 36 KT. Three great ways to start.
Well, not special per-say, you just want a board / wheels that are designed for this stuff. There are tons of great brands out there and we make and design boards (as well as videos) here at Original Skateboards. The main thing to figure out is the type of riding that YOU want to do, and then let everything else build off of that. Are you thinking of getting into sliding / freeride (sort of like the stuff you see in this video) or are you doing more flatland stuff? It's all up to you.
Hey Daan! As a smaller rider I would really lean toward the Freeride 38 or alternately the Drop Freeride 41. You don't need the platform of the Freeride 41 unless you like a longer board, or you are going to be doing MOSTLY hills. If you are riding slow speed or no hills much, I would really rather see you on the shorter board (since 165cm = 5'4). Everything else sounds good!
Shipping to the Netherlands takes 2 to 5 business days (most of the time on the shorter end of that). The only downside really is that you have to pay duties / taxes when it arrives of roughly 23% (VAT etc).
This is a pretty easy one. The Freeride 41 (and Drop Freeride 41) were designed for Freeride (shock right?). They don't have the composite carbon fiber reinforcement that makes the Apex so special, because if you are just freeriding you really don't need that crazy strength (freeriding isnt as hard on a board). That said! If you are mixing tricks in, you will thrash your board (Freeride 41 from Origianl or otherwise). In those cases, the Apexes really shine and I would go DiamondDrop.
Hoje me encontro lesionado relembrando os momentos. Viva e faça aquilo que vc deseja
Hey Lars, First off thanks for checking us out. The Switch is a classic deck out of landy, the concave is sort of similar to the Drop Freeride 41 here at Original but the drop is a little bit deeper and the platform ends a little quicker (relative to the truck pattern) on the old ones. What kind of hills are you riding? A lot of times drops are a great starter slide board but you need hills to make them work. If you don't have hills a topmount will slide easier (an Arbiter 36 or KT?)
We actually make boards as well as shooting videos (here at Original Skateboards). The decks in this video are from our Freeride 41 family. Basically they are drop through decks with a hybrid freestyle / freeride type goal. I think new prices just went in on them too but check out our website. We have been pushing super hard on a new production stream which is killing it as far as our costs are concerned. Videos started getting shot because we got bored riding by ourselves
Hey Rez, I would personally lean toward either the Freeride 41 or the Drop Freeride 41 at your height / weight. I spend most of my time on the Drop Freeride 41. I figure if I am going to ride loose as far as slide initiation I might as well go really loose. The Drop Freeride 41 initiates super easy and I learned a lot of my slides on that board in addition to teaching a lot of people to slide on it. For freestyle I think you would be much better off on the Apex 37 / Apex 40 but its possible
Hey Edgar. Yep! If you're interested in a sponsorship email us some info about yourself and why you want to ride for Original. Also, send in a video of yourself riding so we can check it out. -Lindsay

Right!? Cause not only does he have to focus on not falling but he has to make sure they shot is perfect props. But I think they take turns filming
Yeah, camera work is challenging, but you add a fucking hill and you put a board under him, that's just crazy.
For real though, I mean the cameramen are going just as fast as the riders. Total badass

One of the best videos for a good speed carving I have seen. Good job on the video, looks very fun!
All I have to say is what an amazing board. I borrowed a Rocker 38 from a friend and am amazed at what is can do. Will be defiantly be buying my own very soon. Its freeriding perfection!
Like so many others this video is super nostalgic and inspired me years ago, thank you.
-Lindsay
One of the best Original longboard skate video with Go Longboard 2009 part 2 !!! 🤙🏽
I bought the freeride 41 after Seen this Years ago 😅😂
Hey Lee-Ann,
Stoked to hear you are getting into freeride / sliding etc.
Three great ways to start.
this video convinced alot of ppl and also showed the freeride's potential and inspired many...
This is the video that got me into longboarding, still continues to inspire :D
Well, not special per-say, you just want a board / wheels that are designed for this stuff.
There are tons of great brands out there and we make and design boards (as well as videos) here at Original Skateboards. The main thing to figure out is the type of riding that YOU want to do, and then let everything else build off of that. Are you thinking of getting into sliding / freeride (sort of like the stuff you see in this video) or are you doing more flatland stuff? It's all up to you.
I love this video more than any other they have made. First the music is good I love the glitch mob. Second the video is just cool. Good job original.
Still one of the greatest things I've ever watched
2021 e pra mim esse ainda é o melhor video de longboard 👌🏻
Hey Lars,
First off thanks for checking us out.
I watched this video when it was fresh, back in 2011/12. 2:13 still gives me chills...
Hey Rez,
I would personally lean toward either the Freeride 41 or the Drop Freeride 41 at your height / weight.
Longboarding videos like this one are so motivating!
Hey Edgar. Yep! If you're interested in a sponsorship email us some info about yourself and why you want to ride for Original. Also, send in a video of yourself riding so we can check it out. -Lindsay
