DJ, this was your best video ever, even better than the famed Criterion Corner videos which got me hooked onto your channel. Aside from your obvious honest enthusiasm of the Deaf Croc releases, what makes this video far superior then anything you've previously blogged is the inclusion of the clips, which I had mentioned to you a long time ago about doing. Those clips sell these releases as much as your enthusiasm. As you know, I'm a Criterion fan and completist who has not dabbled in any overseas boutique releases. But I have brought a release here and there from various labels due to your sensibilities and enthusiasm. You do a great job of presenting these releases. Typically, I'm not interested in the genre that Deaf Croc puts out, yet, you know I love the surreal Czech films from Criterion and from Švankmajer. So, I see myself getting some Deaf Crocs in the near future.
Thanks so much Henry! Really appreciate the kind words. I reached out to DC and asked if I could use clips from their trailers for this video. I'd like to do more of that, but I don't know if I'll always be able to get away with it.
There are still several I still need to watch, but of the ones I've seen, I really enjoyed Ilya Muromets and Sampo from Aleksandr Ptushko. Heroic Times is also excellent, but I've liked all of their animated titles.
Absolutely love Deaf Crocodile!! I only had a handful of their VS partner label releases, and have been getting their new releases now. Trapped Ashes was the most recent one, and I love it. Beautiful packaging! Love the new designs of the packaging so much!
Great video, we'll probably start doing some classic boutique 4K videos ourselves, just bought the Frank Capra at Columbia collection! Would love to make a video in the future somehow, Harry.
@@FilmsByColor Yes, I went to their webpage. I'd say 80% of the films they had, I've never heard of and want to own. I've never experienced that before with a Boutique label.
I had all Deaf Crocodile releases including the new deluxe versions until these three. I’ve just been too broke to do it. Hopefully they don’t sell out and I can get them some time.
Hey DJ, if you haven't got the Bela Tarr set yet, there is a lightly damaged one at Grindhouse for 107.99. The Amazon price went up about a buck fifty.
@FilmsByColor that's really exciting. Would love to watch more animation after watching "Fantastic Planet". And Deaf Crocodile has put out some wonderful animation so far it seems.
@@JefferyEPetrone If you liked Fantastic Planet, I’d recommend René Laloux’s other two films as well. The animation isn’t as stunning, but the stories are still cool. Janus is working on a restoration of Time Masters. So that may be joining the Criterion Collection soon. The closest Deaf Crocodile titles would probably be Delta Space Mission and Son of the Stars by Cǎlin Cazan.
@FilmsByColor there's going to be a release next year called "Masters Of Soviet Animation Vol 1" which sounds fascinating. In terms of their current line-up, they have across a few releases animated shorts by Jiří Brdečka that would be interesting to watch. I have "Prague Nights" which I think has some. One I don't have, but would like to get soon is "Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet" which besides being an interesting film itself has 4 Jiří Brdečka animated shorts on it.
The Shining, Psycho, Bride of Frankenstein, Nosferatu, Vampyr, Dawn of the Dead crap? Some of the greatest artists in the history of cinema? Kubrick, Hitchcock, Murnau, Dreyer!
Thanks for the recommendations! I can't wait to watch some of these.

Your video gave me the thumbs up to purchase these films!! Great video!!
I hope you enjoy the movies. Just strap in for some weirdness. The Outcasts is definitely my favorite of the bunch.
@FilmsByColor OK. I am an experienced horror fanatic. Thanks for the heads up!! Later!
Thanks for the “this is like” explanations. More useful than IMDB!
Got Tamala and Outcast on order can’t wait! What’s been your favorite release from Deaf Croc?
There are still several I still need to watch, but of the ones I've seen, I really enjoyed Ilya Muromets and Sampo from Aleksandr Ptushko. Heroic Times is also excellent, but I've liked all of their animated titles.
Thanks DJ. My favorite horror subgenre is the Horror Anthology. Trapped Ashes looks terrific. Thanks again. ❤️🎥

Oh cool, which of the VS ones did you grab? I'm missing Delta Space Mission and Kin-Dza-Dza! Still have to track those two down.
@ nice! I got The Tune, Heroic Times, Sampo, Tsar Saltan, and Assassin of the Tsar
I ended up getting a non-slip copy of Delta Space Mission

The Outcasts looks like a winner. So many amazing Irish horror films.🎥
That was definitely the standout for me. Do you have any other Irish horror film recommendations?
@@FilmsByColor The Hallow & Grabbers are great!
@@bad_brains_horror3613 Thanks! Just added them to my watchlist.
The HMV sale I mentioned turned out to be a scam! I guess if prices seem too good to be true, buyer beware.
All sound like winners to me. Going to look into getting them through Diabolok
I consider myself a connoisseur of boutique labels and I can't believe I've never heard of Deaf Crocodile before.
@@FewFew77 You’re in for a treat!

Thanks, Michael. I actually did end up grabbing one off Amazon a few days!
Those are hefty releases. I'm definitely considering getting that cat movie ("Tamala 2010: A Punk Cat In Space").
The music in that one is really interesting. All the music was done by the creators of the film. They started out as a musical duo.

@ I still need that one too. I missed the first three titles in the revamp: Savage Hunt, Adela, and Moscow Slums. Gotta snatch those up soon.
do you review the films you watch anywhere?
The Outcasts is brilliant, I have the BFI flip side version
Would recommend Haxan and Witchhammer
I've got me eye on that one too, here in the UK. 👏
BFI flip-side is cool. I bought 'Cooking Price-Wise' yesterday on it.
I've seen and loved Haxan. Haven't heard of Witchhammer though. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@FilmsByColor No problem. Witchammer is the perfect double bill with Haxan
Cannot stand the Horror genre. I think it’s all crap!
