    I've found that if you do everything but skip the agar agar and switch miso for nutritional yeast (the amount recommended in the video) then it turns into a really nice creamy cheesy pasta sauce, similar to Alfredo.
    The original recipe for firmer cheese is wonderful too. I've tried both and it's fantastic and less expensive than pre-made vegan cheese.

      Thanks for that tip. I love Alfredo sauce. Also, I always have nutritional yeast at home, so I would prefer to use that instead of the miso when I make the cheese.

    My daughter recommended Fed Up and Pharmacy Thugs. so after watching those 2 I watched Forks over Knives and several other documentary's not only did it scar me but it made me realize that I did not want to be sick and that was what the processed food were doing to me. I was always feeling bad taking pills to help with pain and other issues. Now I am almost 1 month vegan old and I feel wonderful. I thought it would be really hard but its not , its actually easier than going on a diet.. Thank you for these great recipes..

    I made this today with all almond meal instead of cashews, strained it to get rid of the pulp, and used 2 tbs nutritional yeast. Melts absolutely perfectly and even turns a golden brown. Amazing and SO much better (and cheaper) than dairy cheese!

    Hi again, I'm back to say I just made this cheese and it's utterly fabulous. I followed your recipe exactly, except I subbed canola oil (I didn't have any grapeseed oil) and I added 1 level tablespoon of nutritional yeast flakes. WOW, my cheese tasted very similar to Kraft cheddar cheese. Your recipe made a 650gram block of cheese and I can't wait to make another batch: next time I'll add chives and garlic :) I'm so impressed with this recipe, can't wait to make and eat more :) Also, it's important to note keep the cheese uncovered in the fridge while it cools and only when cool to put it in a sealed container (this is to stop condensation forming under a lid/cling film while it cools and thus making the cheese wet and slimy). I note that you mentioned this in your soy-free cheese video but not this one. Lucky I'm addicted to watching all your videos :) Thank you so much for a really wonderful vegan cheese recipe!!

      maybe then do not eat anything if everything is toxic for you. Everybody can eat what he wants and is good for him, and stop telling others not to eat this and not to eat that. You are not alone in this world.!

    • @punkrocksmidge
      @punkrocksmidge 7 лет назад +6

      Jasmyne Amy Fun fact: It's a myth that canola oil is toxic, and Canada is not the only country that manufactures it (although its generally called by another name in other countries). One single protein gene in canola is genetically modified and can therefore not be produced by many countries (mainly European countries) due to laws against the use of GMOs. The finished oil from Canadian manufacturers removes the genetically modified protein anyway, so the resulting product is no different from European rapeseed/rape oil and certainly no more toxic.

      Hi *****, I'm assuming you're talking about the Paleo lifestyle? I haven't ever heard of that figure before, it seems like an uncomfortable amount of fiber to me! Perhaps your doctor was misinformed with that figure as I've been trying to find some info on it, but I've seen recommended figures of about 25g-38g of fiber per day, not 100! I don't see why eating this way would result in a need for any more fiber than anyone else, as it is just eating healthy, nourishing foods.
      For me, this way of eating is not a diet, but a healthy lifestyle. My family and I have never felt or looked better! I think you will find that in eating this particular way, you will actually consume much more fibre than you previously did (not 100g, but more than the average person) because you can now enjoy much more vegetables, nuts, coconut and fruit. I recommend doing some research if you're interested, here's some great links:
      -robbwolf.com/what-is-the-paleo-diet/
      -www.thepaleoway.com/
      -nomnompaleo.com/paleo101
      -This one has lots of articles that you can browse through: thepaleodiet.com/
      If you want to know more I'm happy to send you some more info, or have a chat about it! Is your doctor against this way of healthy eating?

      @@premasru Hi! I am sure I found the recipe in You Tube originally so do hunt! "What to do with okara"...or something like that.
      It is important to cook it first: 20 minutes in boiling water. Then drain it again. Then add olive oil, salt and herbs according to your taste. It makes a kind of cottage cheese. This time I am experimenting with fermenting it first. That way it will have much more taste and be really good for my gut flora!! Good luck!

      +Lily Fawn I did. You definitely need to try it, follow the recipe strictly otherwise you'll not get a firm consistency, but you can change the ingredients as you like, for example i did not put the miso paste (shame!) but I added more spices. You absolutely need to cook it long enough to thicken, or you'll get just a delicious spreadable cheese. And I am not vegan, so mine is absolutely an external point of view on the final result, I'm not saying it is good because I have to, it really is.

      I found that a break from their cheese, then on to NOOCH (nutritional yeast, yummy!) and finally to make cheese and I am perfectly satisfied and more. I hear some of the new ones are indistinguishable from the other kind, some are horrifically expensive. I can only get one in rural Ireland and luckily it is both quite cheap and tasty! Anybody looking try skibbereen and dunmanway!

      "I was there..." a few years ago. Despite growing up on a small beef farm, I had a lot of distress with butchering but 'we had to have protein' I was taught. I learned otherwise and decided to respect my instincts on diet - but then how to substitute? One very enlightening video pointed out "it's not the meat, it's the spices". I've found this to be so true! A plain piece of boiled hamburger or chicken would be unpleasant without seasonings, and the same seasonings can play into vegan meat substitutes. I've found ways to create BBQ, meatloaf, chicken, ground hamburger in vegan form. If one recipe doesn't turn out as I want, I try another or tweak it. The oddest thing that resulted after several months of not eating meat, when I did eat a chicken sandwich to not-hurt a friend's feelings and again a year later when a restaurant mixed beef with veggies, I got a stomach ache for about 24 hours! Instead of giving anything up, I simply found ways to create it vegan. Some junk food is vegan, including a variety of cookies; helps me not support the meat and dairy industry with my dollars. Respect yourself on this, and have fun choosing what's right for you!

    Hi Anja, just wondering about the Miso paste. i've never tried it. Does it give the cheese a flavour of any kind or maybe a tartness? I've only ever made nut cheeses with some nooch or sun dried tomatoes in it. :-)

    • @cookingwithplants
      @cookingwithplants  9 лет назад +2

      Deborah Woods It is kind of salty but it has an interesting depth to it which really adds to the overall taste of the "cheese". Definitely worth using and giving it a try :-)

      Ok, thankyou, I will. I had to ask, I've seen you use it in a few recipes and I also noticed that it looks a lot smoother than most of the cashew/nut cheeses. :-)

  • @divxxx
    @divxxx 8 лет назад +9

    I made it today! I don't like the sweet flavour of almonds so I will use more cashews instead next time, but i got a good result this time, still not firm enough, because I'm impatient and I did not let it simmer long enough in the pan. Anyway finally this time I got a sliceable product, my parents loved it! I wish i had a blender as good as yours... mine is not very powerful and does not produce a super smooth consistency, but nevertheless it tasted good. I definitely need to improve my skills on this recipe and on all of your cheese recipes. Thank you!

    So I tried another batch, and this time I only added a teaspoon of miso (the one I have is practically black. Does the colour indicate how strong the flavour of it is? (First time using miso paste)). I also added just a tablespoon of nutritional yeast.
    I made pizza, with spinach and olives and this cheese.... And oh my goodness, it was flipping amazing. Just super delicious!
