Just made this and waiting for it to cool down! It tasted delicious (when it was still in the pan), but a little bit too garlicy for my likings, so I added a bit of nutmeg to soften the taste and holy moly, it tasted super cheesy! I also added nutritional yeast for a more cheesy flavour!

I made this and doubled the recipe yesterday. I forgot to double the amount of agar so it didn't set, but lemons from lemonade, it is the perfect flavor and consistency for alfredo sauce. No miso paste. So I used some for pasta, and the rest I put back in a pot, heated again with the remaining agar. It is now in the fridge and hopefully this time it sets up.

I made this recipe today, and OMGOSH!!! Delicious! Amazing soft texture not rubbery at all! and having tried someone else’s cheese that had agar in it , I found their recipe horrible, the texture was so rubbery and gross, the flavor was amazing-but the texture killed the whole thing, I was hesitant to try agar again. But I am glad I did, and I can’t wait try your other cheese recipe. I found that my cheese didn’t turn out as hard as yours looked, so I will add a little bit more agar next time. Yes, my hand is sore from all the stirring but it was so worth it... my four year old cannot keep her hands off of it.... bless you Anja. Thank you for this recipe, it will impress my vegan mother a lot I think.

I did this recipe today, and it was great!!! I may have neglected it on salt because I wanted it to be low on sodium, however after I eat this batch I will definitely try it a second time with proper seasoning. Loved it, really easy too make. Hands down it is the best recipe for almond cheese out there.

I made my first vegan cheese yesterday -- WOW! I made a garlic and herb cheese, similar to this recipe. I didn't think to roll it in herbs, though. I'm going to try that today! Thank you for this recipe. I've been vegan since 2008 (vegetarian since 1990), and I never thought of making vegan cheese. Funny, because I used to make cow and goat milk cheeses before becoming vegan. This is so much easier -- on me and on the animals!

so, I tried "this" recipe, I used cashew and pecans instead of almonds and I didn't put as much garlic. it tastes rather nice, very "herby", but not watery like I've read in the comments (maybe because pecans have a stronger, "drier" taste than almond...).
plus that recipe raised questions from my mother asking me why I'm vegan. (it's rather recent and I didn't talk much about it to her, she's not easy to talk to about such things and I don't explain things very well when I talk... I can hardly explain a movie to someone ^^) I wrote her a 5 pages text explaining in details why I'm vegan... I didn't show her yet. I wonder what her reaction will be...

The only reason that bacteria can grow on agar is because it is LB agar, and the LB broth used to make the agar is what allows the bacteria to thrive during incubation. In this case, there's no LB broth being used (obviously) and it's not like you're streaking the cheese with bacteria lol.

You did it again! Another recipe for me to try. So glad I found your channel. The best vegan one I've found on RUclips. Real recipes that I want to cook that's not at all preachy. I also love how you don't pretend to be some sort of nutritionist like so many other channels where the presenters aren't even qualified. Sick of it on YT. Not pushing the raw agenda either. You are a breath of fresh air to my vegan channel hopping. Keep those recipes coming. Loving you in the UK - 🙌🏼

I also had a problem with finding agar powder when I became vegan, but then i found that you can order it from the internet for an afordoble price, just order it don't be afraid agar powder is à big part of being vegan.

Josh Howson get your mum to watch Gary Yourofsky's best speech ever.
I am an old mum and had been struggling with guilt feelings for years but Always found excuses as to why we had to eat meat, dairy and eggs.
Then one day I decided I was going to give it a serious go, so I went on youtube looking for tips to help me go vegan.
Then I stumbled on the video of Gary and for some reason I watched it.
I have been vegan since the moment I finished watching the speech.
After that I had to tell my kids we were going vegan as of that day the very first upcoming meal.
They whinged but I didn't budge and now we are all happy vegans.
One idea if she is reluctant is to ask her to watch it as a birthday gift to you instead of her buying you something.
Gary's speech has changed so many peoples mind and life, it is definately worth trying if you want your mum going vegan.
Assuming she has a heart which she probably does for having such a nice kid as you are. :-)

Thankyou for your comment and kind words.
She and I are not on the best of terms at the moment. But we are getting better with time. She can be very uncaring sometimes, without really knowing. She is getting better though. I just want her in my son's life more. But she love 7 hours away making it hard. Makes it hard to duel it out with her face to face too. Don't know why I am telling u this, lol. Are u Aussie? Or is your name to do with Ozzy Osborne ?

Please watch out for all that toxic plastic. I have my blendtec sitting in the closet until they come out with a ss container or a glass container. It's already been determined that the bpa containers from tritan do leach toxins into our food and it's probably worse if you're pouring hot liquid into that plastic container. Also, the same concern should go with your non stick. I searched and searched until i found a ceramic coated line that I like. The plastic coating in that pan is not healthy for your family at all. We vegans need to live long, healthy lives so I hope you will seek out replacements for the products you were using today.

I followed this recipe to the letter. I cooked and cooked, stirred and stirred. I thought I had it where it was supposed to be and poured it into molds and fridged it. It came out very soft and spreadable. Not bad but it did not turn out in a hard cheese as yours had. I was so disappointed. This morning I took it out of the fridge and decided I had nothing to lose by trying to cook it even further. Again, I cooked and cooked. It did indeed reduce quite a bit and I think I had it to where it really should be and decided to mold and refrigerator again. Now I have a firmer cheese--sort of like cream cheese -- again no where near it can be sliced. Any suggestions or thoughts as to why I cannot get this cheese to harden? The taste is wonderful. Thanks for all your recipes and the time and energy you put into your channel. It is appreciated!

+Jill 4 Today Did you convert the measurements to imperial? Did you use agar powder or flakes. If using the flake you need to use about 3 to 4 times the amount you would use in powder format. Also, the agar needs to cook long enough for it to activate.

    • @Jill4Today
      @Jill4Today 9 лет назад

Hi Anya -- this info helps. I am in the US and was going by the cup and teaspoon measurements. Is this incorrect? I am not sure what you mean by Imperial. Second -- good to know about the agar agar. Mine IS flakes. So using more should definitely make a difference. I will try it again with your suggestions. The flavor is very very good. Happy New Year. PS -- if you could advise me about conversion etc., that would be helpful. --Jill

    • @cookingwithplants

Stephanie Treasure The conversions are on the website. My cup holds 250ml, my tablespoon is 1 tbsp. + 1tsp imperial (total 20ml) :-)

Hi: I Lovely! Just want to say I made this cheese also. 1st batch got loose, my own fault as I preground the almonds and think my agar was too little. I did reduce the herbs and salt, (just my preference)and used plain almond milk with just a little dried basil and sage. My result is a mozarella-like cheese that I like. I like to make that tomato-mozarella-basil salad and this will be beautiful! Thanks again. Love it, don't feel guilty about sneaking cheese now, as I was also concerned about the dairy protein and my heart. ; )
