Chasing Kate Courtney and Marine Cabirou in the Italian Alps

- Filmed a year ago at the SCOTT athlete summit in Aosta, Italy. I was lucky enough to follow to world champions down the mountain. Marine ( / marine_cabirou ) is a downhill rider and Kate ( / kateplusfate ) is a cross-country racer.
The camera doesn't show just how steep it was, most of the ride was around -15% or steeper, definitely something new for me. The arms and hands were worked over!

I think i broke my nose again for the 7th time. Keeps on riding. beast mode engaged.! Amazing scenery! Thanks for sharing.
I crashed out of my couch watching this.
I don't know what settings or setup you are using for the GoPro, but this was the most visceral MTB footage I have ever seen. Actually felt the speed and how technical the trail was all the way down!
BRO IKR?! I was just about to comment this is the best GoPro footage I've ever seen!
Its great seeing the handlebars - you can almost feel the steering
True, really gorgeous footage!!! My attention was pinnned to the very last second 👍👏
what does "visceral" mean? cant find it in the translation lmao
@@BigIsJimmy An intensely striking and memorable experience.
Great footage. Super cool to see Kate just chillin' and enjoying herself. Feels like a bit of a peek behind the curtain...
That was nice. Crazy how much confidence you have when you follow the best. The lower half of the trail was epic. I love it!
Safa out of his comfort zone...! Luv ya dude.
Life is a ride. And yours is one of the coolest and most inspiring.
Thanx for sharing it with us. Again.
The level of commitment and the consequences of not committing in this sport is WILD.
Don't discount road though, 35+ mph racing in a tightly packed peloton is pretty damn scary too.
@@mrvwbug4423 I only ride road 🤣 Started out in MTB but quickly realized it wasn’t sustainable living for myself lmao
Mtb is land surfing. The entire attitude has to be about working with the terrain. Road riding is about heart rate, wattage, etc. and overpowering the terrain.
Love the road downhills, love the gravel rides, but this one might be the most sweat I ever produced while watching your vids :D insane!
Great to hear!
Clearly you haven’t seen the Hotline
손에 땀이 너무 났음!😂😂😂😂
That was exhilarating and scary at the same time. It was so fast that I thought at times the footage was sped up and I needed to slow it down, only then to hear chatter at normal speed. Excellent skills and very impressive handling if mtb around steep sharp corners.
OMG! I'm booking a biking trip to the alps now! I've done this kind of biking for years in my 20s, now I'm 34 and only bike in the local hills. But compared to this it's nothing! This video is inspiring.
Los Alpes es la montaña más especial que tenemos en Europa.. es increíble montar sobre todo en los Alpes franceses.. morzine,chatel,bernex...🎉🎉
I came across your channel recently and have been stoked to watch the videos of you charging downhill on a road bike. As a mountain biker, this video made me subscribe! Definitely more MTB content please!
This was the best Brian Safa video I've ever watched. It was the most dangerous Brian Safa video I have ever watched. Congratulations my friend. I also congratulate the whole team. It was a perfect landing video. You rode your bike like a machine :))) Greetings from Türkiye. I will continue to watch and recommend you, my friend. Thanks a lot. have fun and good luck.
I dont know how i missed this Video but im glad i found it, im a downhill nut and spend my time riding a downhill emtb i am in awe of your talent Brian and you could have avoided the broken nose! You crashed to avoid crashing into her! Your are a Gentleman dude! Masses of respect to you!👍
That was fucking awesome~ We need to see the footage where SAFA rides with Nino Schurter and Brendan Fairclough next!!
I do have to wonder if Schurter was in that party train, looks like the rest of the Scott factory riders were.
Safa, your videos and life are always fun to watch. I felt like I needed a beer by the end of that ride!
You and me both!
@@SAFABrian Hope to get the chance to ride with you sometime. I’m in the canyons in LA this fall.
This takes me back 20 years ago when I was stationed in Northern Italy. The Italian alps ate magical and hold a dear spot in My heart
Great video thanks for sharing looks like a lot of dang fun!
Incredible riding great video... You guys are so fast 🤙🏾💯 Good to see you get right back up that crash was insane hope the nose heals quickly 💪🏾
Love the energy and tempo of this ride man
It's always spectacular watching when holy & shit are put together. Epic trails , killer sceneries & awesome fast riding. It's also nice to see pro riders on trail fun mode.
Popping a huge fast wheelie like that after such brutal ride deserves commendations
Insane video, fantastic videos all the time!
brilliant footage of an inspiring ride!, just wow! 😃😃
Safa, i don't know what it is about your video but I can watch them time and again. To be honest im a little bored of the road descending videos so these off road ones definitely are exciting.
i feel like 80% of people don't know how tired your arms get in these trails
More like 98%
..if you don’t ride regularly
think of it as training….
No
Grateful they don’t ride rigid bikes axaxaxaxa
Finally Safa on the trail🎉 i need more for the spinning 😊
Superb footage man! Love how you cut right to the ride!! No random intros
That was epic and also made me realize I'm 30+ years, a few crashes, and several nut sizes removed from doing that kind of thing! I started in the era when suspension didn't exist around the time of Ned, Rishi, Tinker,, etc.
I'm 48, I know what you mean! the bikes in the early 90's were crap in comparison.
@@maxim54321 Oh I still love my 1990 MTB with all vintage and custom stuff on it, I just can't do anything too gnarly on it like I once did. (I have a newer bike though as well!)
I too was a Ned and Tinker fan back in the day. And I loved riding my cannondale hardtail. I gave up mountainbiking for the road 20 years ago, but I just turned 66 years old and bought a brand new Specialized Stumpjumper. Can't wait to get back on the trails!
@@MikeK02048 I'm 53 and still love dirt but road is easy since I can leave from my driveway! Both are fun.
I loved this... shared it on fb.. great video inspiring!!
The editing on this video is out of this world, the motion blur, the color correction. THE LOCATION! Holy Smokes !
Excellent video, Brian. And ridiculous skills. You followed two of the world's best mountain bikers and held your own on a triple NOPE trail (for me). I bow to thee, O Great Safa.
Haha, luckily they were in vacation mode
Super fun video as always!
Thank you
this was so incredibly beautiful and intense!! love it
It's amazing ..congrats all your groups 🎉🎉
One of the better vids you've have put out!
You guys are crazy! You know that right? But your excursions are amazing and exhilarating! Thanks for the footage....
More of this please and thank you.
I only knew your mad road bike descents, but I’m not the least bit surprised to see you killing it on the mtb as well
Epic! Great footage
so many steep, loose sections with serious exposure :0 :0 awesome ride and excellent vid !
This is better than those ultra narrow downhill MTB videos you find in RUclips :D
The quality on this video is better than like 99% of the MTB vids out there, and Brian doesn't normally make MTB vids.
@@mrvwbug4423 ya, but pnes out there are mostly filmed with something like go pro and most of them have this narrow aspect ratio thing which kind of makes drops looks deeper
@@abhramandal3706a lot of vids with the fisheye lens that makes stuff look weird
its a great journey guys. when I am seeing I just astonish !!!
wow. crazy ride, spectacular view. just wow! 😬
What tough and tricky riding🤩 awesome ✨✨✨✨✨💖
wow very impressive, i don't think i would be going that fast on my old 26" wheel hard tail mountain bike. some brave riding there. wonderful scenery.
This was fun to watch
you can do it all, you are a very skillfull and complete rider, chapeau!!
So many cables on the front! Great video!
Nice ride, what a view!
Whoa, that looks fun!
Amazing ride from the top of the mountain
OMG that double crash!! Those tight rear wheel lifting turns! Technical, steep, chattering descents! Awesome hot sauce indeed!
Kate Courtney would kill it an enduro btw.
Great quality content and filming.
super-nice clip, loved t rock walls/ embankments, what a cool ride… got me thinking about t tracks I’m working on, trying to link. : )
As a mortal road biker, this is the reason I have so much respect for MTB riders. Gollyyyyy that's epic!
Holy crapola! That was pretty f-ing rad!
Whew! Felt sooo tired after watching this.. So beautiful!
Kate is a bad ass! What an amazing place to ride. Got to add that one to my list
Its awesome. The whole Aosta Valley has trails everywhere and very good variation from black/pro DH bike park tracks to steep and gnarly hiking trails.
Nevermind the views.
And if you base yourself in Aosta town the telecabine is 5-10 mins from the town center up to the top of Pila and from there you can ride bike park or ride hiking trails.
Plus gelato at the end of your ride 😂
The first comment it's exactly what I was thinking. I don't know if it's the light, the shot, the landscape, the settings or your ability to ride but I like the video. I say hello from Argentina.
El primer comentario es exactamente lo que estaba pensando. No se si es la luz, la toma, el pasaje, la configuración o tu habilidad para montar bicicleta pero me gusta el video. Saludos desde Argentina.
The best track I ever seen ... ❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing ride!!!
Long time no see! Thank you!! And it's good to see women racers!
Dude, looks so fkn fun!
lmfao it looked like you crashed on purpose hahahahahaha
Nice Ride!!
Woww! This is super cool! 🙌🏻🙌🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Sick trails!🤙
Amazing. You are so good!!!
Wow what a nice downhill track
That's an incredible trail and an incredibly squeaky bike!
This place is beautiful. I love it
Damn! Brian can ride!
Wow what a beautiful place
Its stunning. At the top of Pila you get Mont Blanc, Grand Combien and the Matterhorn as your vista.
Lovely footage... any headsup on where this trail starts/finishes? thankyou grazi. xx
This is more exciting than most championships
DH world cups are pretty exciting to watch. They go REALLY hard.
Noice, cool to see Marine back riding and back winning, 2 of my fave riders, sick day
Very cool!👍🤪🚵
I did chuckle as you said about riding a hire bike and getting used to it. Its worse as a Brit in Italy, I got a hire bike by the cable car and took it up Mount Baldo above Lake Garda. Set off down their red run and at the first corner to my shock and horror I realised the Brakes are round the wrong way. Brits have the Back Brake on the Left! It gave me issues all the way down. Apart from that amazing ride. :-)
I run my brakes the same way as you. Luckily they set that up for me tho
Breathtaking!
Looks really cool the way you guys handled the terrain. btw is the bycycle still useable after all this?
Riding a motorcycle for years is less risk than this. What an awesome ride, far above my experience in XC. :D
Not even close
I see Kate Courtney and Safa and I instantly click
Dream ride with the pros!
Vídeo incrível!!!! Aula de pilotagem
Literalmente a elite
Thanks
Fair play to you great footage to I felt like I was in it
That trail is amazing, Great video!! what resort is that ? super lovely views
Its Aosta. Though not sure which trail.
long descent, so happy to be able to enjoy such a descent
Awesome trails - Like run of the mill and porridge in super Morzine.
That's new to me seeing you pop manuals!
Gotta do that on the road bikes, too!
I do but usually were going a bit fast for that when filming
@@SAFABrian Unusual to hear that from you :-P
But still: understandable, have a good day.

OMFG. How I would love to be following Kate Courtney down an Italian Alp. Problem is.. I wouldn't even see her dust.. Great vid!
Heading to Pila / Aosta this summer, I would love to ride this trail! GPX file available?
bella safa sempre al Top
No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, and heeeeeeeellllllll NO. I'll stick to tarmac thank you. Never grit my teeth so hard while watching a cycling video. Thanks for sharing Brian!
Nice video Safa, I am glad you came to Europe. Who is girl in front of you with Reb Bull helmet? Is that Kate? I would crash few times for sure if I was trying to do what she done
Was expecting you to do this on a track bike 😂
'i think my nose is broken. but i already broke it seven times so its not a problem' ...
*gets back on bike and keeps riding*
damn safa lol
You gotta get out regardless, might as well be on the bike and going downhill.
Can you please name the park or trails involved in this video, so if i planned a trip there i would definitely try them out. Thanks
beautiful hike ON THE ITALIAN ALPS
as you said, you had the chance to ride with young women world champions.
I saw some videos of Kate and other young girls and other young women I really liked and admired what they are capable of I also remember the one where Kate
made a series of 3 videos whose title itself is worth its weight in gold AS ADVICE
