- In this video, my brother in-law Darrin and I install the Micro-Air Easy Start on our 2020 Lance 1985 RV in hopes that it will allow us to run our 13.5 btu Coleman-Mach 3 Plus air conditioner off of our 2000 watt Xantrex inverter tied into the 2 100ah lithium Battleborn batteries. We will show how easy it is to install and then at the end, do the at ultimate test. The Easy Start will also allow us to ditch our larger and heavier 3500 watt generator and carry a lighter and smaller 2000 watt generator to use to run the AC when necessary.

*Works great **Fastly.Cool** compact and Easy to install*
I've ordered one of these. Mine is a 15,000 btu AC but the generator is 2500 watts startup and 1850 running so I think it will work fine.
Great video on how to install the Micro Air Easy Start. I was thinking about this upgrade, and now I've done it.
Thank you! It works really well on our AC.
If those are so good and great why don't the AC manufactures install them on their units in the first place?? Did you contact the AC manufactures to see how the MicroAir effects the AC warranty?
Like so many things in life, manufacturers don't install things for two main reasons....1. keep prices lower 2. create a secondary market. Why don't smartphones come with cases? Same exact reason.
@@TravelswithDelaney answers to my questions: Coleman DONOT endorse MicroAir or there use on their AC units. If I were Coleman or ??? I would install them and out sell the competition! That's called Smart Marketing! We have a Champion, much like yours, but we also have a Honda 2000i and it has works fine on 2 different 13.5 Coleman's. Even at 3000' in elevation. We do not own a MicroAir after talking to Coleman Enginerrs. Have a Great Summer.
Great review. I didn't think the 2000 watt generator would fire up the A/C, even with the soft start. Very impressive.
We actually had to use the Honda 2200 last night for about 20 minutes to run the AC to just cool the trailer. Worked great.
@@TravelswithDelaney I think I’m going to buy 2 x 2500 watt dual fuel Champions. Then no soft start needed.
@@machfive916 That should work fine
That’s going to be fabulous when I get mine on! 👍
Good install. Glad to know it works and will work with the 2k generator. Nice video
It's crazy how quiet it is now when the compressor kicks in. It really does significantly reduce the startup surge.
because i think the cool cat is 5000 btu.
The cool cat is 10K btu
Thanks for the install video. I have mine in a box ready to install and this easy step video is helpful. Happy travels.
If you have Coleman Mach AC, checkout Downsizing Makes Cents. They have an outstanding step by step install video. It really helped me out.
I thought I was going to need one for my 9200 btu Coleman. I had to switch to a smaller 2500 watt Champion inverter for my truck camper and it runs the ac no problem at all even just on propane.
Nice brother in law :)
He’s the best I could ever ask for
I just installed an Easy Start on Saturday. Probably a good thing because I found a small cut in my roof fabric while up there. Thanks for sharing! Steve
Two birds with one stone Steve! LOL. What a coincidence that we both recently installed it.
How do u wire it so it can run off both shore power and inverter?
The fans are wired into your 12v battery system. They don't run off the 110 system.
Thanks, we don’t have one on our 5th wheel, but we installed one on our home ac unit! It works!
Great job! Here's a cheapskate option that I've used with my TAB 400 and a Champion 2000 peak watt generator. Before turning on the AC, I turn off the 12 volt circuits at the main switch and make sure I"m only running the AC. This avoids the refrigerator, inverter, or anything else drawing power at the same time as the AC is running. I did this trick while in Death Valley in late October/ early November 2019 with later afternoon temps in the high 90's and the generator worked fine without tripping the circuit breaker. Just as you suggested, I'd do this about an hour just before sunset ( actually, while sipping a couple of beers and enjoying the sunset). Once I cooled down my TAB and solar heating was gone for the day, I could switch off the generator and my TAB stayed comfortable for the night. BTW, I have the factory solar array and that was the best decision I made in buying my TAB. Works great and easily keeps up with the very efficient refrigerator and other power draws. Except where cloudy or camping under trees, I find I seldom need the generator to top off the battery.
That's a great tip! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, thank you. Any idea how it would work on your old Tab 400?
We have a friend that installed one on his 400. Said it was a bit tight to get it installed but he did it.
*This is awesome. I have never heard of this before, so thanks for the video. Rock On!*
It's amazing how much it reduces the electric draw when the compressor kicks in.
Yes, great products, I use the superior “IMHO” SmartstartRV product, I have a long very positive history with them and 4 installs to-date.
I run a 15/k AC on a 15 amp outlet when it is at my home with this product installed.
The Smartstartrv installation assistant is a certified RV AC Pro and he is up to date on the oldest & newest models and customizes your install for your exact product based upon wiring schematic coupled with the model/serial number! 👍😃. A very happy long term customer!
Thanks for sharing!
Did you ever get around to adding these Micro Air Easy starts onto the a/c on your present RV?
We have not yet.
Very nice job Darren and Patrick. Thank you to the Wondering Wagner’s. Glad you were able to do the install. And glad it worked. Tell Patty hello. See you both soon. With Mid Week Update!
Great video! Thanks for sharing our coupon code🙌🏻 Since we didn't get together for this install, we will have to make it a point to camp together soon. Have a great trip in the warm sunshine😎
Thank you! We are looking forward to finally meeting up. Hopefully you will see some sales come in for you.
I have the dual fuel Champion 2500w as a backup to my Renogy 3000w inverter and 800watts of solar on my truck camper. Both run the 11,000 btu a/c with the soft-start easily. A lot of money for solar on a truck camper, but I'm glad I did it.
Hey Patrick, great job as always. We got our NEO all alum trailer in and i have started the build. Cindy and i are excited about it. Glad you guys fully recovered and are doing well. Hope to see you both again some day. Ron and Cindy
That's great news Ron! When do you think it will be ready for you guys to go camping?
@@TravelswithDelaney Unsure right now as it is still early in the process. I am taking my time and being really particular about how i do it. I am insulating the walls with lambs wool from Havelock wool and hand milling the cedar i am using on the ceiling. My brother was here for a couple of weeks from Fla and he helped me out a lot. The ceiling is basically done to the point of installing the final Cedar panels. I have pics i will put together along the way.
I installed this device in our T@b 400 at the end of last season with the help of a friend. A little tighter installation than with your unit, but the outcome is the same. We’re able to easily use the Easy Start with our Honda eu2200i. Great informative video, guys.
Thank you Arnie! Tell Jean we both said hello! I just purchased a Honda 2200i myself last week. We loved the Predator 3500 but it was 100#. Love that the Honda is half that.
Good ole gas generator. Power when you need it, anytime, anywhere.
Great install review- I will be adding this to my a/c also - Thanks Darren for helping your brother in law
Thank goodness for Darrin....best brother in-law I could ever ask for.
Hey Patrick would thatMicro-air easy work on the tab 400 coolcat?
yes it would
Hey Patrick, we installed ousr about 6 months ago but the first time we really got to test it out was while drycamping in the Everglades this spring. Boy are we glad we had the easy start to be able to use our AC. It was in the mid to high 80s in february, we used our 3000 watt inverter and battle born batteries when the sun was strong and then used our 2000 watt honda generator on cloudy days. The AC ran perfect with the easy start. I was really surprised to see your 2000 inverter handle the load no problem, that’s is awesome. Hope to meet you guys someday, stay cool. Larry
Thank you Larry! Hopefully are paths will cross at some point. I was shocked that the 2000 watt inverter started it too. We will see what it does when its really hot out.
Do you have any savings code for Rad Ebikes?
Unfortunately we do not.
Great video, Patrick. I'm sure you will put that Micro-Air Easy Start to good use!
I am really impressed how much less it draws with that installed. And now I have my own Honda generator to use with it. Looking forward to seeing you guys in a couple of weeks.
I’m not sure but don’t you have to short the capacitor positive and negative touch with insulated pliers., so you don’t get shocked.you should have a schematic of wire colors on the cover somewhere too. Just trying to help 👍🏻🇺🇸
You are correct.
Great video, what inverter generator do you have that runs the A/C with the soft start? Thanks again for making these videos :)
We have the Honda 2200i generator. It has worked well for us and it is super quiet.
@@TravelswithDelaney Thank you so much :)
Love the Easy Start, we recommend it on all our installs, can be great even if your not a huge boondocker but maybe do a lot of moochdocking with only 15amp service....
I was shocked how much it reduces the electric draw on startup. We should have added it sooner.
Great video.
I installed one four years ago and it’s still working well. The audible thump in the ceiling when the compressor cycles on is no longer heard. I installed it not so much to run the A/C with my Honda EU2000i generator, but to be able to run the entire camper off a 20amp utility outlet.
I really don’t like to hear the generator running. The load of the A/C really makes the generator loud as it revs up to handle the load. You’re going to have to use an extended fuel tank as the generator really goes through the fuel.
We are impressed at how much quieter it is when the compressor kicks on.
Great install/demo but would have liked to see the A/C running off your genset. I know, I know. I could look at other vids but each one is different. Would like to see if your particular setup would work properly.
I am sure at some point we will have a video showing it especially now that I just bought a Honda 2200 to use with it.
Interesting for sure. Just updated our battery bank. May be doing a little more boondocking
It really does reduce the surge on startup which allows us to use the Honda 2200 and it appears also our 2000 watt inverter to run the AC
Micro-Air Easy Start is a device that should be installed by the RV mfg on any RV they sell with a 13,500 but air-conditioner.
However, I encourage everyone to use a piece of equipment to make absolutely certain POWER has, IN FACT, been shut off rather than simply relying on the power shut off switch.
I could not believe how quiet the compressor is now when it kicks in. And so much less electric draw.
@@TravelswithDelaney Of all the modifications you've made on all the trailers you've owned, at some point in time this will become your all time FAVORITE modification, the one you'll be MOST PROUD of. the one that is most practical, most efficient, the one you'll TELL others to buy & install, MOST EVERYTHING!
Thanks for this video, Patrick (and Darrin). Last summer, I installed the SoftStart RV on our 15K Coleman (2021 Lance 1995) and have had the same success in using a small generator to power the AC in the warm Arizona Desert. Looking forward to years of 'Cool.'
Good video y’all very informative
Thank you so much!
Thanks for this episode, been on list for awhile for the Tab 400. While the Honda 2200i will run AC without, it is a struggle to start, so I e if these should help.
You are welcome! Hope you and Tina are doing well. I should have installed one of these a long time ago. You can barely even hear when the compressor kicks in.
Wish they weren’t so expensive but wow, that would be great to be able to just run it at a rest stop for 15 20 minutes to just cool off and have a break. .
So if I read it correctly, the ac now did a draw of 1000 watts when the compressor kicked in? I have the same unit in my Imagine XLS 17MKE (though it ducted which shouldn’t matter) and it would be cool (out intended) to have the ability to do that off the inverter.
Take care
The Diesel Camper RUclips channel describes a much cheaper option.
You are correct. It is hard to even hear it kick in now. It makes such a difference. I had been putting it off myself just because of cost but now I am glad I finally did it.
My 2k firman starts my 13500 ac without a soft start .. guess I’m lucky
that's awesome!
364 or 368 soft start. Which option did you choose?
Have you ever operated your A/C with the 2000W generator at a higher elevation, say above 5,000 Feet MSL? I've read other reviews that at higher elevations the Easy Start doesn't perform as well.
Do not go cheap on your connectors. Buy the best you can get including quality tape. Nothing but 3M here. You only want to do this once!
Very true. We bought the best ones they had.
Isn't there a similar product that doesn't have the "learning" step? I would think that ezstart would be easier.
I believe there is another brand but I am not familiar with it.
I've ordered a 2k Pro Onboard generator on my '23 F350. Do you think that will run an RV AC with an Easy-Start?
My AC will not start on the inverter with the easy start. But runs much quieter on shore power.
What size inverter do you have?
@@TravelswithDelaney 1500 with Lion lithium batteries.13.5 coleman.
Were you on a standard 15 amp line connected to your home when you did the 5 starts to establish the ‘learning’?
I was connected to a 20amp utility outlet when I did mine.
I was just plugged into an outdoor outlet on the house.
@@TravelswithDelaney normally they are 20 amp GFIC.
Would be nice if you had film a bit closer. But thanks anyway
