Is it just me or Michael is getting better and better for every video he makes? Fair, concise, and well thought. I suddenly remembered his first after the buzz of the Nokia Lumia 900 and everyone gone berserk on the comments (though I agree with him). Keep it up Michael and when is the weekly?
Not bad . Would love to see a full review of final version with non glitchy software. Battery life of phone on its own still a worry- new battery tech should have fixed that. No stylus suprising but bluetooth keyboard a real plus. Overall 8 out of 10 as a package-8.5 if they fix software issues in your video.
I'm using an Asus laptop right now but I'm not a fan of their mobile devices (except for the Nexus 7s). Their idea of a Android smartphone-tablet-netbook combo is amazing as in really awesome! But there are too many compromises and both "modes" are meh. A thinner phone will actually benefit, as well as redesigning the "station." Still this device is very promising.
I actually like the idea of the padfone since the very first generation, both a tablet and a phone without paying extra, despite it is slightly more expensive than simply buying a phone. The problem is, in the year 2014 the pad phone is still only 'average' in performance with a 2012 tablet like design. The edge is too think when compare to tablets such as the ipad and the nexus 7, even to a dated device the nexus 10, the edge is still too thick for a tablet. Even though it is not widely available yet, it gives some people such as me a thought that this is a dated produce, maybe even before the launch of the nexus 10.
I've wanted a padphone since they first came out. I've always had a tablet, phone, computer, and an iPod back before I upgraded to smart phones. But my current set up is a $270 tablet, $150 phone on contract, and the same computer I bought used for $50 years ago. $300 sounds like a great deal compared to the $470 value of my everyday users. But I've been on Verizon due to att lacking coverage in my small town in new england. If they could sell this phone on Verizon plans they would have at least one more customer buying that phone/tablet combo.
I think this would be a great device if the tablet station was smaller (i normally don't complain about bezels but DAMNNNNN....) and the phone thinner. This isn't a flagship in any way other than spec sheet, its inferior to the padphone infinity in almost every way and was made to be a midranger. I hope asus releases a more polished, contract free version.
i would really like for future pc´s to be like this... no need for several devices, just one very powerful smartphone you put into different docks for example: a Laptop dock, a tablet dock like the one seen here or a complete desktop dock with several screens, mouse and keyboard or even a tv dock and when you buy a new phone you could either buy one that fits your docks or just new docks along with it that wouldnt cost that much since all the really expensive tech is in the phone just an idea... i mean i would love to have a tablet dock for my xperia z... i already got the processing power needed for a good tablet all i need now is a bigger screen and i dont want to pay another 400 bucks for something that basically just is my smartphone without the phone part and a bigger screen
With the smartphone Padfone X being just painfully average, and the station not being super remarkable as a tablet but mainly as a battery bank for the phone. As a pair, I just don't see a compelling reason from buy this rather than a seperate smartphone and a WiFi tablet, tethering the two using the phone's Personal WiFi Hotspot to get the tablet online. Also, AT&T saids that the Padfone will be $200 upfront and won't iccur any extra fees like tethering can but they has yet to anounce how much it's service plan with cost and how many minutes & megabytes it will include.
AT&T tells us the data plans available for the PadFone will be standard smartphone plans identical to what's currently available, with no additional charge for tablet use. ^M
That's good. I've never understood how telcos in the US got away with charging people an extra fee to use data that's already theirs on another device. Like somehow, the data traffic from a device connected to the cellular network via a smartphone is different from data traffic generated by the smartphone itself
They wont do it, because ASUS is Innovation everyone else is to scared to INNOVATE but the reason ASUS is so big is because of there amazing Innovation. ASUS FEARS NOTING. ASUS IS INNOVATION. ASUS IS THE BEST.
Dannon Day +Hashtag. I have used Asus products (PC hardwares) and a lot of them give a bit of a twist. In some area it not very practical but once they revisit their model it gets better and better. When it come to computers manufactor and innovation ASUS is pretty high on that list.
I wonder how many people hack the tablet dock into a standalone display! Also devices like these prove that Android should enable phone apps to run in a floating window... Come on Google! Microsoft is already kind of doing it and so is Ubuntu!

Phin Pie what? The Weekly continues apace and has never missed a week.
Didn't think I'd ever recover from that Lumia 900 debacle. :) Thanks!
Phin Pie Ahhhh, the Pocketnow Roundup. Those are fun to do, but we need to get out from under this review avalanche first! ^M
No idea if this will eventually come to europe. Might be really interesting for the right price.

It's pretty awesome that asus turned the phone into an android laptop. It's way ahead of its time. Glad you mentioned that in your review.
Loved the soil review approach. Great video

Me too
I really want to see one of these versions used with the One plus One....
Silly question here.. Could you use the tablet for others devices? Because I only saw a USB jack in the table if I'm not mistaken
How do you take a screenshot with a padfone x, alone and docked, my Galaxy Note was an easy hand swipe ?
Good review
I think the older Padfone infinity 2 (snapdragon 800 version) is better though.
Can you do a padfone x vs iphone 5s in the future

Oh interesting idea, I am surprised no one else had tried this before.
hey... Can you move apps or games to sd card or external storage?
This looks like a cool phone I'm waiting on my upgrade from AT&T
Anyone know where I can purchase a mobile dock? The keyboard for the padfone x
What about Asus PadFone Infinity?
good idea
I guess I would be interested in this thing(s). Its something different.

TheWolfHowling Agreed: pocketnow.com/2013/10/07/unlimited-data-for-tablets ^M
Looks interesting but might wait for a bit, until someone else does it and see how that goes.

ASUS IS INNOVATION. ASUS IS THE BEST.
Hashtag I agreed with this.

Thankyou for posting something that makes sense, rather than, ASUS INNOVATION ARGH lol
Asus always comes up with innovative ideas but somehow can't bring perfection in them.
padphone infinity looks better! hopefully the next gen comes out soon
It is $199 now from eBay without contract.
Atrix lapdock tablet
Hmmmm I kind of like it...

So I can't use the tablet with out the phone.
Bezels on that tablet are waaaaay to big
16gb is a pathetic excuse for this device. Should of been a 32gb or 64gb all together.

Is it just me or does this phone extremely resemble the iPhone 4/4S?
From dead front, yes. It's only missing the circular home button.
16gb is a joke for this money.
Apple is sucessful..because their product are so simple to use .
So I can't use the tablet with out the phone.
