Dylan, I'm very pleased that with the Duster. You are doing the work to it that makes sense to do. Upgrading the brakes, some inexpensive cosmetic and headliner work is the way to enjoy such a clean foundation of an old car. You'll have a decent, reliable piece of automotive history to come. Keep it up and we'll see you soon.
Be sure to save the drum brake parts (backing plates) from the 7.25 rear. You can re-use them to upgrade an A-Body 8-3/4 to large bolt with new axles of course.
Had a Butterscotch colored 71 Demon. Some of my favorite cars those A body Mopars. Unfortunately on the Gulf Coast rust was a huge problem no matter what “rust proof” measures were taken. That slant 6 and 727 torqueflite were just incredible. Still have my 67 Belvedere. It’s a 273 and strong as ever. Sad to see the donor Duster here was so far gone, but glad you’re making excellent use of her. Nice work
OMG this was epic nostalgia for me. My very first car was a metallic brown '73 Ply. Duster that came with a 318 V-8 loved that car !! Thanks for this video!
Dylan, you can apply fiberglass resin directly on to a clean fiber headliner panel to repair and stiffen it up. I did one of mine last weekend. My Mopar are eighties and nineties. The headliners are made from the same stuff, looks like.
Greg Cooper It was way beyond repair. It was warped to begin with and instantly crumbled when I tried to take it down. The one in the parts Duster will be immaculate with some new black on it. Thanks though!
1972 Plymouth Duster with the factory high performance 340 is my favorite. The 1979 Dodge Power Wagon because that is the only year with separate high and low beams.
Sorry for missing your latest videos... It looks Great, im Glad that you could get one to get a few parts off of, R.I.P Duster. Thanks for the headliner tip, i think my headliners have asbestos in them! I wish I had cash and id buy those rallyes from you Friend. I need a set for my Satellite but i haven't got a dime to my name as of now. :( Congrats to the Max Wedge at the end, ill be sure to be on time for your next videos, Thanks!
Owned the ‘73 Duster (Twister edition in Blue, with 318). Gone in 1980, when oil sump broke. Mechanic bought for body (racing) and 318 was headed for a 340 rebuild.
My first car ('72 Duster) was somewhere between the two in condition... Might want to save the hood hinges; from what I've read, mine weren't only ones that bowed outward, scraping up the fender, leading to even more rust... The paint looks pretty god on yours. I'd suggest going over it with Meguiar's M7 "Show Car Glaze," then maybe "Ultimate Compound," and it might be ready for some good wax. Single-stage paint has a lot of life in it; just gotta keep after it. Just the trim parts alone from the parts car are probably worth more than what you paid, considering a lot isn't even going to show up in the aftermarket... Matching lock set - if you have the keys... They don't need to be mint for a "driver;" they just need to be THERE. Would like to see what ImpactJunky below could do with the parts car. Could be an interesting challenge.
Have you ever thought about cutting off the front end where the fire wall is and turning it into a carbaque. A fancy car barbaque. Trashing the rear but keeping the front end.
To Brian Taylor with the Featured 63 Dodge, Great Job ! I just got my 3rd Mopar wagon last night. It's a 63 Plymouth Fury wagon, and I am converting it to a 2 door too.
Very unusual Duster , usually after 73 , most A- bodies , if they had a /6 then they had drum brakes and if it was a V-8 then it had disc brakes. Also if anyone else needs some 14 X 5.5 big bolt ralley wheels , contact Dylan and he can let me know to bring some to the Nashville Mopar show the wheels will be cheap.....
I had a 1973 1/2 bought in April of 74 Plymouth Duster twister with the 318 NEW..They were having a really hard time selling cars that year. And they offered a $300.00 Chrysler rebate on the Duster at the time. The sticker was 3,300 and with the rebate and 100.00 extra bucks off I drove away for 2900. Mel Wolf Chrysler on Western in Chicago. I did a suspension upgrade on it added a leaf spring. And was running E 70's on it at the time. You going to see that there is a off set of two inches in width between the front and rear..With the front actually being wider that the rear. So you could run G70's rear and E 70's (Biggest tire at the time you could put in the front of the Duster) and then it would really handled great. Plus it gave a super straight look to the car.. The G;s Rear to E;s front then matching width..
You should swap the rear as well so you have the same bolt pattern all around. It shouldn't take long. I have done similar cars in two to three hours, plus you when you put your old rear in the parts car you just have to install enough to move it around.
get the high quality thin superglue, and some baking soda. You can fix a lot of things with it. Baking soda is not only a filler, it reacts with the glue to cause it to dry almost instantly, and dry very strong and very hard. Once you've done that you can sand, shape and paint the glue/soda mix. If you'r a bit clever with making molds, you could have made a replacement for that broken part in the grill and not had to buy the rust bucket.
My first car was a new 1970 red Plymouth Duster with a 340 in it. Car payment was $108.36 for 2 years and the insurance for it was $78 a month. I was 16. Next car was a 1972 Plymouth Duster with a 225 slant 6 in it Insurance payments went down to $24 a month. I traded it for a new 1976 Chrysler Cordoba with a POS 340 lean burn that burned out at 42K miles.
Back in the day......I removed the head liner in my duster and I just bought some paint and painted the head liner. I used several cans of paint and let it dry between coats. The new owner never knew the difference when I sold it years later.
Frank P - when i was living at my folks house i started collecting riding lawnmowers, alot of em. i had em stashed all over, even when they sed " no more" - i still brot more home. im the same way in my current home, cept have even more yet( like 25 of em) , my wife puts up with it- even wanna drag more home from my folks place as well. 😊👍
Nice job on that grille that's cool that the parts duster has black Interior that sucks that you did all that work on that cardboard piece to find out it was junk too bad they did not have the cardboard roof liners like they did in the late 70's on the Aspen and Volaré cars
Cool, I have a 73 Duster like your parts car.. with tan interior been sitting since 87.. it's now just a parts car as the suspension in the front / uni body is rotted and quarters and floors / trunk floor. I'm hoping to find another car and use mine as parts..
@Dylan McCool What a shame, I clicked on the video assuming you were going to fix the car. You should rename the video to "Plymouth Duster Meets It's Demise". Because "Home" isn't where a car comes to get cannibalized. Home is where a car comes to be made whole again.
ImpactJunky So what you're saying is it was better off in the scrap yard instead of with me where I'll save useful parts for myself and others? Makes sense.
@Dylan McCool I'm glad you can use the parts from this car and I would rather see a guy like you use things off of it than see it crushed but it is still really sad to see a straight, mostly complete duster with all of it's glass still intact getting taken apart never to be remade. If I hadn't just put myself in the poor house trying to save my dog and then having to put him down anyway I would be offering to buy the unibody from you after you are done picking it.
Hey Dylan. Nice work on the grille! Can't wait for the next vid! Listen, I could really use your help. Thankfully, but also unfortunately, there are no salvage yards in my are that have old mopars in them. I have scoured the internet, and cannot find what I need. I have a '74 Trailduster, and I replaced the ford bench seat with factory buckets. I need the passenger seat release mechanism. Any help would be much appreciated! Kepp the vids coming, can't wait to see what's next!
Actually, no. What I'm talking about is the passenger seat release mechanism. The parts that let you tilt the seat forward. The lever, floor catch, and seat latch.
Dylan McCool - ah thought y might put em on your good duster as well as the grille. years ago i had a 89 f150 with a bad efi setup on the 300 six, was ready to buy a 86f150 with the same 300 six but carburated , woulda had that rebuilt, maybe bored a lil bit, if it had an auto trans id of used that too, also mighta swapped the differential ( mine had some issues) didnt have time or place to swap it tho. ( i was at my folks an pop didnt want all that stuff around) - so ended up selling it.
When you winch, its not a bad idea to lay a heavy blanket over that cable, so if it breaks while under tension, it doesn't fly back like a steel whip. Just sayin'
Hey I have a '73 Duster that's missing the lower grille support, that long piece that connects to both fenders, acts like a filler for the bumper to front core support, if you don't need it, I'd be interested in it if it's in good condition, please comment with tagging me and or PM-ing me, thanks.
Back in 1989, I nearly bought a 74 duster...near Ukiah, CA....for $200. Its entire driver's side was crushed in, & I didn't want to chance the possibility of frame damage...it was a slant six car....too far gone for my level of skill fixing cars...that'd be about nothing....for what it's worth, I have always found the 70 Duster an incredibly sharp looking car...something about being a kid & seeing those slitted taillights on a Gold Duster in front of us...man, I never stood a chance!
You have a good eye for parts! The wheels and the big bolt pattern/brakes are WHY you bought the crappy-looking car. You are a smart Dude. I can see why you explained the reasons that you saved that part for last. (Thumbs up!) Good story. We will never doubt you again. I really enjoyed the video!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps your next video will include the modifications to your other Duster and in the end,see that POS go away,Sir.
@Dylan McCool Nice Plymouth Ruster lol, seriously though please don't junk this thing. I'm a Mopar guy and I do paint and body for a living and I could actually save that car. I'm working on a 73 Mustang on my channel that's way worse than this. By the way, I love seeing you and your dad go pick up old cars just like me and my dad do. You just earned a sub.
That's one ropey Duster but at least it gets to live on as parts to keep other cars rolling. It doesn't look like it's been changed much from original (to my eye, I'm by no means an expert) which would suggest it didn't have many owners before it ended up in the junk yard. That type of body "repair" was not at all uncommon in the '70s and well into the '80s, I've seen that kind of thing quite a few times, a friend of mine even had the rear wing/fender/quarter panel fall off one of his cars on the motorway because the filler/bondo had all dried out and lost it sticking power. Those foam over board head linings are a total disaster once they get a few years old, there are plenty of old cars around that had the vinyl head lining hung on bows and the head linings are still fit to be reused even in a restored car but the foam and board ones (which just about everything has these days) are just junk before they get to twenty years old. The foam just doesn't stand up to the temperature changes and moisture inside the vehicle and it breaks down and then the cloth drops down, and it happens to them all eventually. But we're stuck with them because it makes the vehicles cheaper, easier and quicker to build...
You are spot on with all of that. And yes according to the title it was owned by the same person since 1980. It definitely had a rough life, but hey that means I'll get to enjoy what's left on it.
+Dylan McCool Absolutely, That car, sadly, is way beyond any but the most experienced and brave restorer as what you can see is only the very tip of the iceberg. Once you start stripping it down I would lay good money that there will be whole lot more serious rot...
Thank you!
I'm glad they have people like you that save these cars. Please make some more new videos
Be sure to save the drum brake parts (backing plates) from the 7.25 rear. You can re-use them to upgrade an A-Body 8-3/4 to large bolt with new axles of course.
Aaron Newman Yes as stated in the video I'll be keeping the rear axle.

Good luck with the resto. I bought a 73 Duster 340 for $1,400 from the original owner...but that was back in 1980 and still have it.
OMG this was epic nostalgia for me. My very first car was a metallic brown '73 Ply. Duster that came with a 318 V-8 loved that car !! Thanks for this video!
Lol That car is still in better shape then any one of that year in New York. You are lucky to have so many nice old cars out there to find.
I'm glad to see someone young showing an interest in Mopars. Good luck, Dylan!
Dylan, you can apply fiberglass resin directly on to a clean fiber headliner panel to repair and stiffen it up. I did one of mine last weekend. My Mopar are eighties and nineties. The headliners are made from the same stuff, looks like.

I’m interested in the bumpers and bumper mounts if they are still available.
very cool - thanks for sharing!!
Maybe the most-hammered Duster in the world; looks like its 100 years old!!
Have you ever thought about cutting off the front end where the fire wall is and turning it into a carbaque. A fancy car barbaque. Trashing the rear but keeping the front end.
bumpers still shining,awesome
Yeah they're decent enough to use. No better than what I have though.
To Brian Taylor with the Featured 63 Dodge, Great Job ! I just got my 3rd Mopar wagon last night. It's a 63 Plymouth Fury wagon, and I am converting it to a 2 door too.
Shaun Clifton I was amazed it was a four door!
Dylan McCool Yes, he did good.
I had a 74 and a 75 back in the 80’s both long gone but still finding parts in mom’s basement ;-)
Hope you saved the original radio! Those should have an 8 track player in it! ^^
Very unusual Duster , usually after 73 , most A- bodies , if they had a /6 then they had drum brakes and if it was a V-8 then it had disc brakes.

Kenton Groombridge I said that I was going to in the video. I did the same thing with my Dart.

Nice show love dusters especially in your color or bahama yellow.
Marcus Rodriguez Bahama Yellow is one of my favorite colors for these cars.

I did the same thing with the headliner on my 86 dodge ram, the foam is like sand and hurts just as bad when it gets in your eyes
Your dad's pretty cool. Mine would have been like "what do you want that piece of junk for"
Frank P He's the exact same way so if he starts questioning it I'll be concerned!
Frank P Yeah, Thank God my Dad cheered me on when I drug cars home just as Dylan does.
😊👍
Frank P your dads been brainwashed...
Frank P same :(
I just bought some 14inch rally wheels for my Duster I'm a disc brake swap I have the booster Spindles.
Where I'm from we had a lot of Dusters that looked like that....In 1980.
Lol. I have the same problem. That's one of the reasons I need to build a bigger sbop
the grille looks great, is the chrome better on the bumpers ?
Mark Fay They're about the same as I have on my car now.
Man I hope you didn’t mess up those rallye wheels. They’d look nice reconditioned and put on your Gold Duster.
was that a slant 6 motor in the old beater? They can be fixed and run and run, then fixed and run again
lets see what it does with battery and quick start!! lets see it kick over just for the channel
mopartshemi I would but the push rods have been removed.
Dango wasp nest in the right rear fender
Thankfully I didn't notice them until after I recorded that!
Dylan McCool it comes natural for me to watch for them if they were to sting me on my face it would swell my eyes shut
Nice job on that grille that's cool that the parts duster has black Interior that sucks that you did all that work on that cardboard piece to find out it was junk too bad they did not have the cardboard roof liners like they did in the late 70's on the Aspen and Volaré cars
I see you got a swepty back there nice I got a 66
nice paint job on the light bulbs :D
I wanted to keep paint out of the sockets so it wouldn't interfere with the new bulbs.
Cool, I have a 73 Duster like your parts car.. with tan interior been sitting since 87.. it's now just a parts car as the suspension in the front / uni body is rotted and quarters and floors / trunk floor. I'm hoping to find another car and use mine as parts..
You framed the Married with Children part so perfectly.
Good buy for the parts.
Tip, wd40 on plastic parts and allowed to set a while will rejuvenate them.
What silver paint did you use for the grille? I have a '71 Dart and the grille is bugging the crap out of me because its all black
NavyWolf175 Rustoleum semi gloss metallic aluminum.
everything can be saved.. they are soooooooooo rare and expensive... sandblast and rebuild the whole thing.. with matching numbers slant 6
san379 It's going towards saving my other Duster.
@Dylan McCool What a shame, I clicked on the video assuming you were going to fix the car. You should rename the video to "Plymouth Duster Meets It's Demise". Because "Home" isn't where a car comes to get cannibalized. Home is where a car comes to be made whole again.

Nice job!👍
Thank you! Are you talking about with the center section that folds down? Let me see what I can find and I'll get back to you.
Actually, no. What I'm talking about is the passenger seat release mechanism. The parts that let you tilt the seat forward. The lever, floor catch, and seat latch.
George Mcmillan Where are you George ? I have a 76 2 Wheel Drive Plymouth Trailduster
Shaun Clifton in Jacksonville fla.
Shaun Clifton do you also have the grille lettering?
Do you sell these once you fix em up enough?
thats cool, least you can salvage some stuff off it, even if its in terrible shape. bumpers look pretty good too- y savin them as well? 👍
dangerous toys56 The finish is decent but they're definitely straight. I'm sure someone could use them for their car so I'll definitely keep them.
Just sayin'
This is awesome I wanna see more!😀😀😀
Looks good Dylan!!
Thank you!
Nice pool!
Hey I have a '73 Duster that's missing the lower grille support, that long piece that connects to both fenders, acts like a filler for the bumper to front core support, if you don't need it, I'd be interested in it if it's in good condition, please comment with tagging me and or PM-ing me, thanks.

what year is your dodge truck72-73 that duster is nice good project car
It's a 1974.
Why does it seem like every severe case of rust starts with a patch of bondo?
Because they just throw it on in chunks. This car has it up to an inch in some places.
Did you ever end up selling that slant six?
Back in 1989, I nearly bought a 74 duster...near Ukiah, CA....for $200. Its entire driver's side was crushed in, & I didn't want to chance the possibility of frame damage...it was a slant six car....too far gone for my level of skill fixing cars...that'd be about nothing....for what it's worth, I have always found the 70 Duster an incredibly sharp looking car...something about being a kid & seeing those slitted taillights on a Gold Duster in front of us...man, I never stood a chance!
Will you sell the drivers side mirror?
Jason Smerer Sorry I'm keeping those.
do you have a 1950 gmc 100 pickup truck because i have been hunting for one for a few years now
You remind me of me at youe
age ! Keep goin'....The Oldodger ! (that's me !)
Man i LOVE dusters. Every time i se one its too much
You have a good eye for parts!
The wheels and the big bolt pattern/brakes are WHY you bought the crappy-looking car. You are a smart Dude. I can see why you explained the reasons that you saved that part for last. (Thumbs up!)
Good story. We will never doubt you again. I really enjoyed the video!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps your next video will include the modifications to your other Duster and in the end,see that POS go away,Sir.
Thank you for watching!
i just got a 70 power wagon 4x4 and i have no idea were to get parts help
what happened to the headliner did it workout
Earl Hines No, as stated in the video it fell apart, but this new Duster has a nice one.
Dylan McCool oh ok I must've missed it keep doing work
dylan you needed to glue the vinyl to a piece of carboard and then screw it on the edges thats what the trim piecesare for
How much did you pay the junkyard guy for the spare parts duster?
1.How many Cars do you Own?
2,Does your state give you insurance discounts on vehicles 25 yrs old or older??
you wanna sell the windshield wipers and your old mirrors?
Wait! what was that Orange blur? Was that a Plymouth Barracuda!?
@Dylan McCool Nice Plymouth Ruster lol, seriously though please don't junk this thing.
I'm a Mopar guy and I do paint and body for a living and I could actually save that car.
I'm working on a 73 Mustang on my channel that's way worse than this.
By the way, I love seeing you and your dad go pick up old cars just like me and my dad do. You just earned a sub.
Can you work on a totally rusted chevy van?
Bought a Plymouth duster in 1988 for $600. Wished I still had it.
the bumpers on the scrapper Duster look better than the ones on your good Duster
Does car have the driver's side regulator?
Just found you channel watched one video and subscribe!! Keep it up!
Thank you!
That front end looks new....now to get rid of those bumperetts.
MrTrenbo You're right they do need to go. I've put it off because I'm worried the finish on the chrome won't look as good.
That's one ropey Duster but at least it gets to live on as parts to keep other cars rolling.
