- Emotional and powerful testimony filled the Carnahan Courthouse on Tuesday as the trial against Daniel Riley officially began. Riley is the driver accused of critically injuring Tennessee teen Janae Edmondson while she and her family were visiting St. Louis in February 2023 for a volleyball tournament at the Dome at America's Center.

The defense attorney is badgering the WITNESS!! This is why people don’t want to come forward. He’s being treated like the criminal 😡

Excellent witness! He is very savvy about resisting being painted into a corner so he looks like he has a bad memory, bias or just plain ignorance. Every defendant is entitled to a fair defense-- but in this kind of case I would just like to see paperwork filed timely etc. However, appeals can follow if the defendant says they didn’t have effective counsel.

I don’t blame this witness for being frustrated. I’m frustrated for him! If that were me, at this point, they would have to hold me in contempt and I’d take the jail time over this. Totally agree. Darrell Brooks had a mask on except for strategic moments, like addressing the jury in opening/closing statements or when his own family/friends testified for him by video.

The only positive thing it accomplishes is Jurors don’t like it and it makes it easier for the Jurors to vote Guilty.
This witness is a witness to this incident. He is not part of a crime. Treating him like this is messed up and not helping his case.

And if you've ever been in a scene at night with multiple first responder vehicles lights flashing, recognizing faces or differentiating between officers when there's now 10 on scene is impossible as a witness whose sole concern is to get your statement taken and correctly

I’m so glad the witness spoke up about how the defense atty expected him to answer questions about which cop said certain things when the witness couldn’t see the cops face! Also for telling him the video hadn’t finished playing when he (atty) took the tablet from him! The atty was trying to force the witness to testify to something that didn’t happen in his presence so he (the atty) could say he lied. Shameful! But this witness was not going out like that! 👏🏽👏🏽

This defense attorney is baffling me. Why is he trying so hard to FORCE this witness to veer from the statements that he’s already agreed that he gave? Why is no one saying asked & answered? The witness is clearly not disagreeing with what he’s already stated. When the defense has no defense, they always try to put the witness on trial for merely being at the right place at the wrong time.

He's attempting to lead the witness and failing at that.

His final call is an operators dream. This is the person you want first on scene. I felt scared for him as the defendant shot laser beams at him while he testified. He really ought to have qualified for some sort of witness protection, behind a screen, his name not shared with anyone but the judges & attorneys. I can understand his reticence to say he spoke to police.

Horrible what happened to her. Losing both legs but she's a strong. Young lady with a strong spirit. That's easy to see. Her determination from within.

I could never be a criminal defense attorney.
That’s why I couldn’t do it, it’s not a respected profession at all. You have to defend to lowest of the lows to keep food on your tables and you have to trip up a witness to find a loophole. Where’s the fun in that! I couldn’t imagine seeing a young lady getting her legs cut off and then have to put up with this BS! Instead of searching for the truth and getting Justice. I’d be going to jail by now having to deal with this Clown. He’s not even a good Clown!

I am heartbroken for the people who were injured in this situation. But, my heart goes out to Daniel Riley. He's just a kid. Any one of us at his age drove, on occasion, pretty darn bad. I know I did...on many occasions. With one bad decision, in a split second, many lives are changed forever. It is up to all of us adults to show the young adults coming up just how quickly a stupid choice can destroy many.
Does anyone know if C.J. Eckrich that gave this testimony has social media? I want to send him a message. He was so AWESOME. He stayed calm cool and collected. With a little salt in his responses. And the prosecution hated they weren’t getting under his skin‼️ GREAT JOB‼️‼️👏👏👏

The defense attorney kept trying to get him to say the conversation with the officer in the video was the 1st officer he spoke with. Over & over the witness said he could not say if that was true.

Is the defense attorney a public defender? The way he asks questions for the witness is like flashbacks to the defense attorney, the public defender defense attorney at the Dewan Ferguson trial. A lot of them aren't even questions, they're just statements.
And they have about the same preparation work ethic as well, which is like 0. With defense attorneys like that who needs enemies?
It's all for the best though because this guy needs to go down.
