I made the recipe yesterday! It was very easy and super tasty! My boyfriend is currently playing Pokemon Legends Arceus, so he was excited to enjoy this dish in real life too!
I used half tapioca starch and half mochiko (mochi flour?), because potato starch isn't easy to find where i live, but turned out great.
Additionally, the character who makes them says he uses an ingredient called Sootfoot root in his recipe. After searching, I believe it’s real world counterpart is Japanese Wild Yam. Can probably add half of one to the recipe!
I also believe that he grills them.
Had to go run and get a snack before I started your video because everything always looks so delectable.
That looks amazing and so easy! The fate of the potatoes in my cupboard has been sealed :)
I’m not a gamer, but it is wonderful that you used the game for inspiration!
@@EastMeetsKitchen I did this with a big Russet per your recipe and it was fantastic! Then I thought about the sweet potato that had been keeping the Russet company and I gave that a go. I was out of potato starch so I used tapioca/cassava instead and I added a half teaspoon of cinnamon. I used the same glaze and it was really fantastic :)
So cute!!! My boyfriend plays pokemon arceus and I saw this in the game, going to make this for us for dinner tonight :))
How did it go?
Awesome I'm a big fan of the Pokemon and I'm willing to try this recipe thanks for sharing
after seeing the food in game I was looking for a recipe on how to make it...and here I am finding your wonder video on how to make it
SO much ASMR goodness in this video: mixing the dough together, frying the mochi, simmering the mochi in the sauce......... LOL!
These look terrific, and actually pretty do-able. Thanks! It's on my list for the next time I grab potatoes at my local farmers market.
Me and boyfriend are playing Arceus. I beat the main story first so I might try to make this to motivate him. Although he's super motivated over I did him Darkrai.
I love you so much for thissss. I want to make vegan recipes based on things I see in anime and video games, and you're always a fave channel for me. I got my copy of the game in the mail recently, but now I still need to find time to play it
I just made these tonight and they are so good! I love the texture 😍 also made the rice paper dumplings with tofu and cabbage and they were also really good 😋
Such a fantastic video idea!! I love it!
These look delicious and very fun to make! Can't wait to try it out!
Ooh, that looks delicious, no wonder they eat it for dinner every day 🤣 I gotta try this, thanks for the recipe!
I tried it out today and it was easy and tasted good. Thanks for the recipe 🍘🥔😋
I think what I'm going to do is, instead of mixing the potato peel into the potato mash, I'll hold them aside to substitute the seaweed wrapper! I love the taste of potatoe peel and I think that would be quite yummy tasting!
I play the game and today I wondered what potato mochi looked like. Thanks for showing us. I want to cook it now
Magical is the word!
Yayyy While i was playing the game I was wondering what they were. Thanks for showing us. I’m definitely going to make this one Sunday abs have my Pokémon friends over.
These looks very nice
Glad i found this, i was curious about it and now i wanna cook them!
Also from a quick glance it seems this is a common snack in Hokkaido? If so that's super neat, especially since the Hisui/Sinnoh region is based heavily on hokkaido
wow!!! I know what I'm making today!
Great idea!
love the fact you keep the potato skin on👍
Wow I would love to make this! I am also playing the new Pokémon game its very fun so far :)
Thank you for sharing this recipe, I had no idea it was a thing 😅
I think it could help if you dipped your hands in water before forming the dough balls… it works with rice flour balls.
Girl I was all Yu-Gi-Oh but I'm here for this 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this looks super yummy
Absolutely delicious!!! I love the game so much! Definitely going to try this recipe ☺️☺️
Add a little baking powder to the dough and simmer in salted water and it's a credible gf potato dumpling.
@@EastMeetsKitchen
I am going to make the mochi, though!!
Delicious! 😍
looks great, i'm yet to make the chinese gnocchi but this reminded me of that too. I'm wondering, does this feel more like a sweet type snack or a savoury side kinda thing?
Watching from Sri Lanka
Yum!! Broke Da mout' ! Mahalo!
🌺🌸🐱
💜👍💜👍💜👍 cool looking snack
i imagine you could possibly do the same with sweet potatoes, it's all i have in the cupboard for me, but i guess it'd be much sweeter than using regular potatoes heh
Does anyone know if you can eat these cold?
All of the recipes I've seen fry it but in the game it's said that Beni grills them. What should I keep in mind to grill them, even on a griddle?
Can I do this with Japanese sweet potato?? Or would the recipe change?
Do you have the written recipe somewhere?
I have to be a PITA and ask... could I use mochi flour in place of the potato starch? I've had some here for a while and looking for a way to use it.
I made these but when I rolled them they were a bit too thick and I couldn’t get the right crisp I wanted

Is there any noticeable difference between potato starch and corn starch? I have corn but I have an astute palette and can be a purist so if there’s any noticeable difference then I’d rather use the proper starch.
Also, would low sodium soy sauce ruin the flavor too? Because that’s all I have as well.
@@EastMeetsKitchen thank you. I’ve added the ingredients I need to make it authentic to my shopping list. A few I need to order from Amazon.
What oil are you frying them in at first? I’m making them right now and realized you never specified. I was thinking of using sesame oil but maybe it’s not meant for frying with so maybe I should use vegetable oil.
I think I’ll use veggie oil just to be safe.
Something kinda odd happened when I made these - set and forgot the potatoes to steam/cook in my instant pot and it was late at night and I was to tired to mash them so left it till morning - then in the morning I realised the potatoes were kinda firm with the skin on and it would be difficult to mash them when cold.
So I put them in a food processor to mash them and they got a really stretchy/mochi like texture just blended in the food processor, it was really sticky/stretchy and unlike normal mashed potato, didn't know they could do that. Anyhow the mochi potato cakes are super mochi like and chewy, accidental happy accident I guess lol, though they deflated quite a bit when I took them out of the frying pan and were kinda odd shaped because the potato was so sticky and stretchy, difficult to work with. Wonder what caused it, may look that up.
You worked the starch to much in that potat
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤❤️❤️❤️
I’ve always been more a Team Rocket guy myself.
Just remember to give them a good wash if you leave the skin on. You never know who touched these before. :)
