Thank you so much for this top quality content!
I have been weighing the pros and cons of X1C, K1 Max, and Rat Rig for a few weeks and am leaning toward the K1 Max, I just wish they had a Multi Filament option.

You might wanna consider a Voron V2.4 and the Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder for Multifilament Options. There is a V2 of the ERCF by Enraged Rabbit Community, because the original Creator abandoned the project.
You could also check if the ERCF is compatible with the Rat Rig, then this combination could also be an Option.

We love our K1 Max! The Mosaic Pallette is a 3rd party multicolour option that you could try but, unfortunately, we don't have first-hand experience with it.
@DarkR3ignlol's recommendations are great as well!

16:49 As far as I know its actually the other way around. The Ratrig only comes in a few sizes but A Voron can be built in nearly any size, as long as its big enough that the two rear motor mounts are not touching. My V2.4 is a custom 350XY and 400 tall for example, and the Voron design site has a tool where you can enter custom build volume dimensions and it will provide a complete BOM including the correct extrusion lengths and panel sizes needed. They both support really the same popular hotends and extruders, its just that Ratrig never had its own 'standard' extruder like Voron has.
Supposedly people have built really weird size Vorons like 350XY and only 100 Z, just to full time do printed Voron parts. The customisation is also how the 'printers for ants' or miniature versions of the V2.4 and Trident started out I believe.

Can't wait to see what Simon comes uo with as he said the next VZBot is going to be a Delta printer using the same extruder and Gokiath hotend.
The Goliath has around a 50mm melting zone. The heater is a100W wire rhat wraps around the hotend several times. That thing is nuts, even a water coolingversion for heat creep.
Great comparison video, very informative and detailed. Keep up the good work.

The beauty of a DIY printer is the customizability which makes it unlimited, i got my Voron 2.4 before the prusa XL release and i was surprised that the community was in-fact working on a multicolor solution like the prusa XL way back before the release of the prusa, i’m now eligible for such upgrade and the cost is a raw cost of material and my time, DIY printers doubles as a tinkering hobby and a 3d printing machine.

Thanks to you guys for the thoughtful assessment of the various printers! The Bambu Labs is a no-go for me because of the required internet connection to the mothership. I think the recently announced RatRig V4 might be the way to go if you have time to build one.

The Prusa XL is the ONLY printer that entices me away from my x1c with significant benefits - apart from high temp PEEK printers.
But even the Prusa CL can't do more than 5 colours like the X1C.
The X1C is amazing - a multi tool head X1C with printing temps up to 400c would be incredible

I own this printer and is complete crap. I need to babysit this one all the time. Between MCU error, to continuous bed calibration, to excess of graphite falling on the white prints from those xy bearings - total crap.

IMO building your own should achieve two things number one you learn the product inside and out and #2 you're saving money because you are building it piece by piece me getting into 3D printing a little less than six months ago I would never choose a voron and I love to build things and I love to tinker because I could still learn without building 1, it is extremely overpriced now I don't know why especially if companies like sovol can put out the SVOL sv08 for $500 which is a 350 size build volume why can't I build one for less than that, ohh I know people are gonna probably tell me I probably can if I sourced all the parts individually and waited for sales and timed my buys but that's not convenient and building your own should also be convenient that's why I loved building computers

    • @grasstreefarmer
      @grasstreefarmer Месяц назад

You can't build your own ender 3 for less than Creality can either. The SV08 is more than $500, especially if you want it to be enclosed as is standard for a V2.4. The SV08 could be described as really cost cut V2.4. I can stand on a V2.4 frame, and I wouldn't try that with a an SV08. The bed is a cheap warp prone PCB heater VS an 8mm thick ultra flat cast tooling aluminium bed. The linear rails may be of questionable quality etc etc
Just as you can't build a car for less than you can buy one, companies can always make things for less money with their buying power and ability to have custom parts made. Otherwise we would build everything DIY. PC's are a very specific, and unusual case. Yes, you can put together a "gaming" system for less than some boutique builder that provides a warranty because they are just charging for the assembly, service and support of the same parts. You can't build a cheaper laptop than a dell, or a server cheaper than a dell, or a cheaper office computer than a dell.
The Voron project started partly as a response to the terrible state of 3d printing at the time. Almost solely focused on a race to the bottom of ever cheaper Ender 3 clones. Printers came and went and good luck finding parts for your machine if it was less popular or the company just abandoned it. That was why the parts all had to be easily available off the shelf or simple to make. The huge popularity of the Voron / Ratrig / and other projects, along with things like Michael from Teching Tech on youtube with his community survey of what customers really wanted, is what led to better pre built options like the Bambu Labs, and forced the other manufacturers to step up too. All of these pre built systems are still very new though. People often forget they are only less than 3 years old. Will you be able to get parts for these machines in another 5 years? I hope so, but its sure not guaranteed.

    • @JoshFisher567

Never get a Sovol model at launch, I just won't buy from them anymore because of the issues I had with the SV066. Finally got them to replace it about six mo after launch and it was like a different printer. That's all I have to say about that.
I wish I had the knowledge to build a VZBot, the Goliath hotend is nuts. I'm just not comfortable building one from scratch though. Just the electronics part as I saw another video and the guy who built one said it took him 4 times longer than the last Voron he built. He said he had built 3 Vorons before the VZbot and he said the electronics almost made him give up. I think I could handle a Voron though.
I am wondering what the next VZBot will like also as Simon said it's going to be a Delta printer with the same extruder and hotend as the current model.

@@NoMercyFtw Yeah I could source my own parts but honestly, honestly the kits from Mellow is a good deal IMO and they have excellent products. I order anything from AliExpress from them or DFORCE.
I did some light research and.if you source one you can save around 300 but may require some metal cutting at exact lengths and that's something I simply don't have access to. My biggest worry would be shipping from Mellow..
It's probably just all the power needing to be run but it's apparently pretty tight behind there and to get a clean build it takes getting all the electronics rights. I have probably built over 100 PCs from random parts in a bit but just always thought I would hose something up.
I do want to see their Delta printer whenever that is shown which could be a while. I think they did what they set out to do though . AWD allowed shorter belts, so less resonance so I input shaping doesn't kick in until moving much faster. That and more power obviously. Not sure they could really do anything "faster"" with Core XYZ unless something else improves, software or hardware wise.
