These short and concise videos are great. They should be played on TV and on public screens everywhere. people still think I'm crazy for giving up sugary stuff and carbs in general. They believe I'm mentally ill for even considering that "You need to live a little, treat yourself". It'sl tragic really. You and Dr Lustig are my heroes. Much love from Germany
I find that I do want something sweet from time to time. I can eat sweet things (including sugar-sweetened) but I can simply stop after I've enjoyed a few bites. I'm proud of myself for getting this far; I was a carb addict for many years.
I have several trigger foods that once I start I can’t stop eating them until they’re gone. I’m, also, overweight. So I keep shrimp, eggs, pork rinds and beef on hand at all times. I will kick the sugar habit!
I remember, when I was in my 30s, sitting in a meeting at work, thinking about why I could not lose weight nor could I control my eating habits. At that time, I came to the conclusion that I had to cut entire groups of food out of my diet. The #1 food I knew I had to stop eating was chocolate. Fast forward 40 years and I have only in the past year, eliminated all chocolate from my list of Foods I Can Eat. Addiction to sugar is SUCH a devious and difficult addiction to control. I was a smoker, a drinker, and drugger and I have been clean and sober for 33 years. But chocolate, and other related sugar addictions, was the most difficult addiction to control. Now, I have been free of sugar/chocolate for a year and for life. I will NOT go back into that Hell!! Thank YOU, Dr. Westman, for being available to assist in eliminating this horrible addiction from our lives. Regards, Leslie Ann
@L A Farrar TRUE for me as well; similar journey with plural addictions. But the E V I L is just HOW f'n cheap sugar is priced, dealers only give you the first one free with illegal drugs, bartender cuts u off when showing early signs of being tipsy. MY CVS drugstore is filling the aisles with Halloween and even Christmas candy: their CORPORATE VISION STATEMENT “help people to live longer, healthier, happier lives.” THEY OUGHT TO BE SUED out of business by a class action suit from the morbidly obese customers they provide drugs to for weight loss and type 2 diabetes!
I'm lucky, I suppose ... I've never been a sweets eater, but I do miss pasta and potatoes. Lots of people advise not having high carb items in the house. Not something I can do since I am doing keto in a non-keto household. I just remind myself that carbs are toxins for my system as a "recovered" type 2 diabetic. In the past I can recall sitting down and eating an entire sleeve of saltines!
If you are craving sugar, it also can be medication. I was low carb, went on oral birth control and I had insane sugar cravings. Once I switched to transdermal patch, the cravings stopped.
I can't control myself either. Well, I've been doing keto and intermittent fasting for 10 months and I've lost a lot of weight, back pain is gone etc and my addiction to carbs (especially sugar) got to a point where i wasn't craving it anymore!! But i fell of the wagon. I've only gained 2 kg in a few months but hoping to get back on track. I know now that I can't control myself.
I find your videos so interesting. In your years of practice and studying the effects of sugar on the body and the benefits of a keto diet, have you experienced push back from the food industry? I watched a fascinating BBC documentary available on RUclips called “ The men who made us fat”, and it was discovered that fast food chains especially, were putting in high amounts of sugar and salt into their products which caused food addiction in people. Other factors such as using psychological tactics to get people to buy junk food were being used. There is strong lobbying going on in Washington that the food and beverage industry use to ensure that more healthy foods in schools and limiting portion sizes at fast food restaurants doesn’t happen. It is worth watching.
Frozen peanut M & Ms used to be a problem for me. I would never eat an entire bag, but I would eat a few more than one serving size. However, I noticed that since I started trying to eat a keto diet, frozen peanut M & Ms are too sweet now to taste as good as they once did. Keto does make a difference.
Kanonbra. Tänk om min sambo kunde lyssnavpå detta men han kan inte engelska..är typ 2 o vräker i sig.. sötningsmedel o mackor.. mm Thank you. Great explanation of how to reverse Diabetes 2. Easy to understand. Mvh Pia. in Sweden..👍🌹
Great vlog, longtime follower here, but I needed the concise review of the mechanisms. I FINALLY GOT IT!..... I never could put my finger on it all the years I've been watching that face.... 1966 The Grinch Who Stole Christmas blue eyes sparkle, he grins is WHAT U LOOK like! Hello Dr., Been doing somewhat 'Dirty Keto' for a couple of years, but I think I need more of your 'Prescription Keto' and eliminate ALL snacks, Keto Bars, etc. I do make my own Raw Milk Kefir each day and have about 5 oz at my first meal around 2 pm and another 5 oz after my, last meal around 8 pm. I've been adding a few blackberries and strawberries, but now feel I should not do that in order to lower sugar. Question: I'm assuming that almost ALL sugar in the Raw Milk has been eaten by the 24 hour Grains because I have to drain the almost clear liquid whey and mix it back into the Kefir grains to release the spoonable liquid Kefir. Am I correct that almost all of the sugar has been eliminated? I Subscribed long ago and just today introduced another Keto hopeful to your channel. Thanks.
“On average, Americans are consuming about 57 pounds of added sugar every year” 😳 Not to mention the grains and starches that are broken down into sugar 🤦🏾♂️
Drs. cannot take you off sugar and carbohydrates. You must do that for yourself which is the hard part. Everything in the world is easier said than done.
makes sense but can't lose weight anyway. does help blood sugar to lower tho. no doubt. just repeating the narrative "no carb = weight loss" doesn't make it true unfortunately. there must be more to it is all I'm saying. also real sugar prob safer than artificial. gotta think fruit heathier in that regard. makes good sense just doesn't seem to work 4 weight loss

Thank you for all the work you put into making these educational videos. Keto has literally saved my life. Peanut M&M's are dangerous for me too. 😆

I can go all day or several days without food and not be hungry. It's when I do eat, even low carb, that I still feel hungry.
Peanut M&Ms are my weakness too!
Same here.
Very helpful. Thanks

If I find it difficult to stop eating the egg custard recipe from your site - I used allulose - then is it because even that is too much sugar? Thanks
“On average, Americans are consuming about 57 pounds of added sugar every year” 😳
Not to mention the grains and starches that are broken down into sugar 🤦🏾♂️
Thank you for this essential information!
I stopped eating sugar, on keto, I reversed all my ailments; but my LDL went up gradually and still high
Mine too. But my trigylcerides are normal and HDL is high.
@@Irisgomesjmjfaith mine too; that’s why I’m not worried about my LDL.
Thank you! 🙂
I get severe anxiety and increased heart rate when I try cut carbs , not sure how to stop that .
Chocolate is addictive. Peanuts are addictive. Combining the two? That's a deadly combination. (Also oxalate city!!!)
Sign #1 that you’re eating too much sugar: you’re eating sugar.
😒👉 _NUTS !!_ Can be addictive ...
Definitely
Drs. cannot take you off sugar and carbohydrates. You must do that for yourself which is the hard part. Everything in the world is easier said than done.
My DR says don't worry about the pre diabetes. He said that he can always prescribe metformin.
Change doctors!
Why would you want to take medication when you can reverse it without medication. Get a new doctor
Wait...2 m&ms????🤣😂

Every cell in our bodies run on glucose!!!So the worst thing to do would be to eliminate carbs. That’s the reason why humans crave sugar
But our bodies make glucose, you don’t need to eat it
You called M&M food
