One thing I would like is where the factory mines out the new location first, then expands itself to the new area. This way you don't have resources stuck under train tracks or sidings that you cannot get to. After that, toss in a few solar collectors/accumulators in the mined territory, and keep a perimeter of laser turrets and walls. The perimeter increases linearly while the power generation/storage increases by area, so eventually you are producing and storing enough power to keep the laser turrets going against the tougher stuff

Good trick. Now let this run forever and automate the capture and upload of videos to your youtube channel.Go on a vacation for a while to plan the automation of expanding to new locations once the income from youtube sustains it, automate the building of another computer and setting up of automatic uploads as another youtube channel. Sit back and relax as youtube slowly is overtaken with only automatic factorio videos.

Nice idea. Now continue until you take over youtube completely and then take a vacation while you think of a way to automate the take over of other social medias. Make a bunker far away from civilization where youll blackmail all social medias and demenstrate your power by taking over twitter. With the terror and wealth you gain, you do end up taking out all of google. Now, you automate the production of new social medias make of only factorio automation videos. Soon, only anyone will know is factorio. Start putting in subliminal messages to take over the general public. You now automate the creation of an army of people to take over the world. With every single human taken over, you have them work to make space ships thatll colonize planets. After awhile you start to automate that with the new materials you gain. You discover aliens and then befriend them, you have them merge species and then, you mind control them to add to your army. You automate collection of aliens into your army. You soon take over the universe. You automate the taking over of other universes. You reign supreme over the multiverse. You look around the industrialized planets youve created. You walk forward, and you get ran over by a train god damn it.

Not quite a "GreyGoo" situation yet because the brain doesn't replicate itself. So if anyone were to destroy the single instance of control it's all over. Also it doesn't start self constructing exponentially faster as more brains come online.

Well on the macro scale its a non self replicating Von Newman type machine. The true power of self replication is exponential growth which you don't get with this machine as although it expands its resource collection capability it dosn't reproduce its manufacturing and command centers to make more independent factories that could go on to expand by themselves.

this is amazing. so, the important thing in factorio is to automate your resource production... and you tackle that in the possibly most creative and automated way... kind of^^. when you could manage it to go for the rocket and satellite launch at some point, besides, fighing biters and using oil etc (basically finishing the game without the player doing any additional move) it would be an amazing "meta ingame AI challange setup" (how fast can it beat the game? can it grow exponentially? etc)
    ps:
I also love cellular automata. there's one example, the Hutton Replicator which can replicate itself but it uses a much simpler "engine" than factorio with much simpler rules XD

@@SgtWiking I was wondering, why is it hard to do oil? When you find an oil spot, just plop down a pumpjack, and then cover all spaces nearby with pipes. Sure that it's inefficient, sure that it's ups hungry, but just like in 2:34, when you have a bloody self expanding factory, efficiency isn't important. If resources are low, just go around and look for another ore deposit. If UPS is a trouble then deconstruct the old oil fields and construct new ones.

Warning in advance: Some overbearing romanticization incoming!
I know it might seem an overreaction, or downright absurd to some, but these kind of little personal projects give me hope for humanity. These interesting ideas that relate to the very heart of the human en-devour to create, discover and invent and that builds up from existing human ideas and well refined technical knowledge, as well as previous achievements to make something so personal in what it expresses.
In a way it's the ultimate manifestation of the ideal libertarian society, from the collective of all humanity are provided the means for the individual to pursue his personal vision, with trust that it will inevitably reflect the needs and desires of humanity and thus in turn benefit society. Nowhere there-in found the need for coercion or authority, or structure beyond that which maintains the freedom of the process.
"It's just a game" might seem the reflex-response, but isn't that the point? No pressure of any kind, no real objective or any outside force, pure ego unleashed, in the positive sense, intertwined with that of others by means of a communication network and the natural fabric of society.
...I will see myself off now...

Why is six afraid of seven? Six hasn't been the same since he left Vietnam. Every time he closes his eyes, he sees Charlie hiding in the darkness of the forest. Not that you could ever see those bastards, mind you. They were fast and they knew their way around the jungle. He remembers the looks on the boys' faces when they walked into that village and... oh Jesus. He shouldn't think about that now. Sometimes he still hears Tex's slow southern drawl. He remembers the smell of Bob's cigarettes. He always had a pack of Luckys. But the boys are gone now... he knows that. It's--it's just that he forgets sometimes. And sometimes the way that seven looks at him... it makes him think. Sets him on edge. And he feels like he's back there... In the jungle... In the darkness. Also Seven has a hook for a hand, Which is quite scary.

Nice, though, it looks like the build rate is sub linear due to the centralization. True grey goo should at least manage hyperbolic growth, if not exponential.

    • @niftymaniacfactorio5050
      @niftymaniacfactorio5050  7 лет назад +13

Yep. In the future I'm aiming for accelerating growth. Exponential is possible in the short term but ultimately max expansion rate is only quadratic due to robot speed limits. Hyperbolic growth is unsustainable and impossible for grey goo; might want to check your terminology there.

I can't even begin to imagine how he did this, nonetheless have automated production of robotics and factory capabilities allowing it to grow faster and faster as the amount of robots increases and the factory becomes exponentially insane. If you could achieve this I would be truly dumbstruck.

but all these mods do is automate input. In vanilla, you could manually que the blueprints and reroute the trains, the mods are merely interfaces for the AI.

It's funny. I've played a decent amount of Factorio, to the point where I launched a rocket.
Since then, I've been learning to code and it's amazing how seeing people progress with what they can do in Factorio is the same as coding. Just exanding and building on simple ideas to the point where it's so complex that you don't know where to begin.
    Great video man!
