Haikyuu! is a realistic depiction of Japanese high school culture and high school student club culture, and I think you'll learn a lot! This isn't just an anime world, but a representation of the typical Japanese high school scene!

Some animals appear in this anime.
The animal is an image from the name of each high school.
Japanese schools are often named after their place names, and place names in Japan often use kanji characters that represent animals.

The best thing about haikyu is it's a story of everyone not just one main character's and the failure and success looks very real not like unreal super ability like kuroko no busket

"Haikyuu" is volleyball in japanese, and the two U's is because normally it is "Haikyū" wich is a long "U" in japanese, for the crows, the highschool is called "Karasuno" and "Karasu" is crow in japanese
Also, the main character's "Hinata" has the same VA as "Udo" from AOT and Kageyama's is the same as Iida from MHA
I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW HAIKYUU IN THE TITLE. there is literally no doubt that u both will fall in love and grow attached to every character, even the characters u “aren’t supposed to like”.

I went in to Haikyu a few years ago with low expectations because it was a sports anime, and it ended up ranking in my top 3 favorite anime. I love the characters, the developments, and the music (so freaking good). Looking forward to another journey with you guys!

I gotta disagree a bit. Episode 2 and 3 are a little slow and some of the worst on rewatches, but I still believe episode 1 is one of the best and most hype opening episodes to an anime out there.

Jason "White Chocolate" Williams elbow pass will forever be legendary. Dude got mad moves and passing skills.
I'm not sure if it was pointed out already, but I love how we see Hinata being teased by his classmates for being "on the girls volleyball team" but he denies it, stating that HE is the boys' team... And then, after the match, when Kageyama asks him what has he been doing for the last three years, he realizes it. And so we see our precious boi joining the girls volleyball team, proudly wearing their uniform on the last training montage before heading to high school... God I love Haikyuu, and hope you'll enjoy!! ❤❤
Haikyu is one of my favorite anime of all time I'm so glad that you are reacting to it. 2 advice I would give you if you continue watching it:
-When they say the size in centimeter you can quickly check on Google the conversion. There is a lot of time size is mention in this anime and since you are american it's better to unterstand how tall people are.
-Don't worry too much about the rules of the sport, the manga is doing a really great job at explaining episode by episode to people that never played it.

Rewatching haikyuu for the nth time with you guys!!
And since I have rewatched it alot I have collected some interesting facts about it!
1- Furudate the author of Haikyuu was going to start Horror series so that will explain alot about the intensity of somme scenes
2- The author write Haikyuu to make Volleyball common and to explain it to new players, furudate used to play volleyball in highschool themselves.
3- Our main character Hinata has the japanese word " Hi" msaning sun, his full name means shinning or soaring sun ( fits him soo well)
4- Kageyama Tobeyo has the word Tobe in it meaning " fly"
5- Karasuno has the word Karuso in it meaning crow
6- kageyama is a settet a position that touches the ball the most and he basically controls the team, his job is to organize the attacks and deliver the ball to the spiker to hit it.
7- spikers are mostly called wing spikers bcs most spikes came from the wings but you also see middle and back attacks as well
8- attacks from the middle are mostly quick attacks while wing spikers deliver solid strong attacks
9- Volleyball is played with 5 players on the court , usually 1 libero, 1 setter, 2 wing spikers, 2 middle blckers ( 6 overall bcs one player is regularly goes out and in the court and they are the libero) and the game starts.
10- there are two sets, each set winner is decided by whoever gets 25 points first
I love Haikyuu! I'm so glad you guys are watching this, because the more I analyze the anime/manga the better everything gets. Heck, even their names have significant meanings and all of the background characters are interesting!

Wanna share this, Haikyuu is my best friend's first anime. At first she was reluctant, but one day I got a call from her.. she asked to help me stop her because she has watched full season (at that point it was only till season 3) three times in row due to how good it is 🤣🤣. I just laughed and said, "no one ask you to watch it on loop!" And she just replied, "but it's so good.. 🥺🥺."
Haikyuu OPs and EDs are bops, excellent music all around! And the original soundtracks are from the same guy that composed for My Hero Academia, so it also pulls its weight.
This is going to be such a fun journey!! Haikyuu is near and dear to my heart and so nostalgic since I played volleyball from a young age up until high school and this show does such a good job with bringing all those fun and emotional feelings back! I really hope you guys enjoy it and can’t wait for the next episode!!

Haikyuu is one of those rare few types of anime where I can say each season is better than the previous. Truly the best sports anime imo.

Not me crying bc I'm rewatching haikyuu episode 1 with you guys and I just finished reading the manga. 😭 This is a really good anime it's one of my favorite and you'll love all the characters in the team. Actually even the ones from the other teams.
OMG I AM SO EXCITED!!! haikyuu is definitely a lighter-themed anime, considering it's a sports one. and i just love the natural bond of EVERYONE in this anime. the sportsmanship is just chef's kiss.

6:30 haikyuu (排球) is a traditional way to say "volleyball" in Japanese but they mostly use "Volley" (バレー) instead since it's more modern. And the reason why sometimes it has two Us in Japanese words, because it's a long vowel - one U is short in terms of spoken duration and UU is longer. Hope you understand!
The twist in this anime (100% worth watching) is that the usual rivals that make each other want to better and better and push each other buttons.... are in the same team XD

Yess! I just finished Haikyuu about a month ago, and it was totally worth it. At first, I thought I was gonna hate it, but it gets progressively better. I would give it a 9.4/10
so excited to rewatch with you guys !! this is not just one of my fave animes but is smth i will always come back to and never get tired of. this is on the lighter side than the other animes i’ve seen you guys react to but it’s definitely one that will surprise you and keeps getting better every episode as you get more attached to the characters and the story. i hope you guys enjoy !!

Kings let's goooooooo!!!! I was born in Davis and have been a fan my whole life. Due to it being the only professional sports organization in the area and going to games with my Dad. And it is so hype that they're good rn!! Beam Team baby!!!!

During the intro you mentioned "I'm used to abilities and fights." That's exactly the reason I used to be reluctant to try sports anime. I was into the typical shows you'd expect and assumed sports would be boring, until I eventually tried a sports show on a whim (Chihayafuru). I was both shocked and pleased to discover they're not too different to anime with combat. Most characters have a specialty, and the way they present matches, hype moments and reveals is just as dramatic as you could want. Haikyuu!! is also one of the best sports shows out there.
I promise you are gonna love the whole cast ….they all so very adorable in their own way 🤌🏻💕 and their relationship with each other is also very close.
