On first glance I thought “Meh a volleyball anime” but after finally watching it it’s honestly one of the best and most inspiring animes I’ve watched. The manga is great too.
I love how accurate this show is from an athlete's perspective. Hinata's playstyle is exactly how I play. I'm short (5'5") but I'm the fastest on the team and I rely on my hops and reflexes in order to compete against my friends who are 6 feet tall. I honestly wonder if the writer was a player with that exact same skill set because of how good he captures Hinata's epic moments
He should make this into a series of him watching the episodes cuz I would like to see his reactions to some awesome spikes and sets I saw in the anime further on in the anime
When the anime was released volleyball as a sport in japan was slowly declining in popularity but when the manga/anime came out it started to get more traction
I know right! I was thinking about it when the teacher told Hinata that the club slowly lost members until it disbanded. Furudate was actually able to stop a lot of volleyball clubs from that happening and that's incredible!

There’s something special about this anime that someone like me, who doesn’t watch sports especially volleyball goes out of my way to research the rules of playing in a official match 🤣
I love how Haiykuu literally revived volleyball in Japan. Before the manga and web novels the sport was actually losing interest and players in the thousands and this one anime revitalized it. And honestly the anime is amazing.
It actually brought a huge amount of people to the sport twice. The was one big wave of people joining with the popularity of the manga, and then another when the anime came out.
@@BlademanZX the best I can over right now is this reddit post featuring the statistic shown in an NHK documentary discussing Haikyuus impact on japans volleyball www.reddit.com/r/haikyuu/comments/5cqedf/stats_from_nhk_documentary_the_impact_haikyuu_has/ (I hope the link works. I never actually shared a link in RUclips before)
Yeah it's also nice to see just how accurate to reality the show is. Between Haikyuu and Baby Steps the anime/manga sports are moving away from the supernatural insanity of the past.
I’d never paid attention to Volleyball before I started watching Haikyuu four years ago. Now it’s my favourite show, I’m obsessed with the sport, and play it casually. It also inspired me to get more fit and work out more. One of my favourite things is the feeling of accomplishment I get from noticing an increase in my vertical jump height. My favourite position is Setter and I hope to one day be good enough to play the position full time in a proper team, in an actual competition.
I also like setter's position. It's one of the most demanding ones but often overlooked because spikers are flashier. My second favourite is libero for the same reasons. You'd think it's easy because you only receive and go for rebounds etc. but you need to be agile, quick and withstand balls with attack speed of roughly 100 km per hour. Gosh I love volleyball.
I love how you appreciate Kageyama! From the way you said how he's skillful and attentive though seen as someone who is aggressive, well it's not his fault he had this facade and people just tend to dismiss him as mean or rude when he's actually not :( I'm glad you acknowledge him!
Haikyuu actually spiked the volleyball popularity in schools in Japan drastically..they though it was a dying sport in Japan or so i heard until i think the 1st anime season kicked off..or was it the beginning of the manga..not sure!! Love Haikyuu so much and i never played volleyball..i just think it speaks to real life and not just sports or volleyball the way the story and characters are written! Great video as well..YES the animation is amazing...you' ll see a just in quality from season 1 to 2 and 3 and 4 just keep on bringing it!! glad you liked it!
Maybe for boys? Boys vball in US is alot smaller than girls too. In Japan there are dedicated stores to vball shoes. I know Japanese people that moved here to US and formed multiple all japanese teams

Watching Haikyuu is the thing I can proudly bragged about. I'm so proud that I followed Haikyuu when it first came out. I always remember it watching with my uncles every weekends after doing my homeworks. We literally wait for the subtitles updated. And it was literally crazy that time because I always remembering the times I'm the only one who knows haikyuu in my class and I was grade 5 that time. But now, it's quite fascinating seeing others discovering and fangirl/boy-ing over it, but at the same time quite disappointing that others just watching it because it became a trend. Hahahahaha but it's alright, Haikyuu deserves the fame.
I just started watching Haikyu because me and my older brother both love animes. Its such a good anime i actually recomended it to my friend (likes anime aswell).
I didn’t say the Kitaiichi coach was a good coach, just that it’s a comment you don’t normally hear. Plus, it’s nice to hear the perspective of a real coach

We already have plenty of reactors. Coach, it's your knowledge of the game, insight, and real connection with what their doing that gonna make this interesting.
Definitely, There's also Otaku-desune the volleyball player reacting to haikyuu... And she gets the views, must be because of her knowledge with volleyball. So i think that this volleyball coach reacting will pop off too
@@abdullahaposaga9344 I like her, she has a real passion for vball, and she explained things like Hinata does 😁. Just from watching this, you can tell Coach has that competitive drive, his pet peeves are so gonna dish out deeper insight with certain characters, and he is currently the reactor with the deepest volleyball knowledge. Just look at his videos. Haiyuu and Coach are tailer made for each other. For someone who is this dictated to the game, he's gonna love Haiyuu. The main character’s name is Hinata Shoyo, with Shoyo being his first name but usually in Japan people are called by their second name (first name is more for family and close/childhood friends), the other guy is called Kageyama Tobio Actually the author of haikyuu played volleyball himself during high school as a middle blocker, once in an interview he said that he truly loved the sport and since he couldn’t make it a living and pursue it after school he wished to share his love for it through this manga / anime. Last thing: Haikyuu had a HUGE impact in Japan, actual real volleyball got a lot more popular and schools’ clubs bigger and bigger and I think it’s amazing to see :) Ps, Haikyuu in Japanese means volleyball! Lovely reaction, thank you!
It's so much fun coming back to this episode after we've reached season 3, just to see where we started, and I completely forgot how amazing it was that Coach immediately identified with the show. From the shoes to the hardwood floor. It was immediate and very impactful to watch Donny identify with everything as new and experienced player, as coach and artist. I love this reaction so much!
THIS is the type of reaction that all of reaction channels should strive to be. Not only does he constantly reacts, he also gives insight that actually takes away from the show. Great video
"You can't pick and choose when you're gonna try hard, it has to be a habit not a choice". Excellently said. This is the first video of yours I've seen but I loved the commentary. It was so much more enjoyable for me than those over the top reaction reaction videos that are so common on RUclips. You're clearly intelligent, and your background in both volleyball and art made hearing your thoughts throughout the episode very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing you watch episode 2.
Same!! Im an adult who watches anime, and loved Haikyu, I recently watched some videos on high school and professional volleyball in japan and was amazed at the lack of exaggeration, so it is really nice to see you confirm these things and to see someone who loves volleyball reacting to having representation in media, since its a less common sport in the us. Good job.
"I know volleyball in Japan is really popular." When Haikyuu was first publishing, high school volleyball participation was at an all-time low until rates soared once kids got into the series.
"You're gonna get teased in the process of trying to be your best, as hinata is getting teased, but you gotta focus on your goals and block out what other people think." I love your commentary! Also, I know you think you're monotone and lifeless, but I don't think so! Your comments and insights are very wise and deep. They aren't forced enthusiasm too. I also like the fact that you comment on both the animation and the technicalities! Please keep these coming!
I don't know about the animations, but as far as I remember, the author and artist of the manga was (or is?) a volleyball player themselves. Gotta say, I'm probably one of the few who didn't start watching volleyball with this anime as the basis. I first got into it when a random volleyball video made it into my RUclips-recommendations (it was some highlight video of japan vs canada during last year's world cup, the latter half of the 5th set with Yuji Nishida, who's pretty much exactly my age and height, serving six times in a row, winning the match in the process), it looked awesome and I wanted to try it out myself. Gotten to a sudden stop cause of this year's circumstances, but I'm looking forward to get into it more once I can. A friend of mine recommended this anime to me around half a year back. It's pretty cool! Also, I enjoyed your commentary and would like to see more! It's not about you hyping and stuff, it's just incredibly interesting to hear your stories about experiences you've made yourself as well as technical commentary.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial I see. I've never really tried basketball, apart from like two or three months during P.E. in school (which I actually kind of enjoyed, though). Speaking of which, this probably greatly varies throughout the world; how is physical education where you come from? In Germany, we always had a few months of some kind of sport, but never really got involved with anything. We also played volleyball for some time, but I injured my wrist at the start of it, so I only had like two weeks of volleyball-fun back then.
Elevate Yourself Hi Coach! In the video you talked about how jogging is not a great way to get into shape for volleyball, could you maybe explain it further why it’s not good and what other ways there are to get fit for volleyball? I hope you never leave youtube coach because you’re such an amazing and helpful content creator that inspires and teaches people like me about volleyball with every video you post! Thanks for everything!
@@fifaalldayallnight It's probably because Volleyball isn't exactly about running and stuff. You're better off practicing jumping and training your legs for that, rather than running. I imagine sprinting might be somewhat useful though. You don't run around loads, but you have those short bursts withr esting time in between. TL;DR: Long-distance-running is just not a skill you need for volleyball.
This is actually one of my favorite reactions to this show because I never played volleyball but I’ve always wanted to play and I never understood why some of the players give up and stuff and he talks about that and how he hates players like that, I feel him so much on that
THE WAY THAT COACH'S REACTION IS ALREADY CALLING OUT A LOT OF FUTURE EVENTS IM SCREAMIN But also i would like to say, your reaction is very appreciated, because you actually add a lot of information and value into what you are reacting. Really interested in all your thoughts for the future games! ALSO, HAHA SO AWESOME THAT YOU ARE A KAGEYAMA STAN TOO BUT LIVING HINATA'S LIFE HAHA AMAZING!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with how "monotone" you sound! Not everyone needs to act like they've drunk ten gallons of Red Bull. I think your calm and level approach is what makes you shine best especially to older fans like me because you will focus on things that not many do for the anime, such as the body language and also the mindset these boys will express throughout the season. I feel like you've so much to teach us so I hope you will continue to do more! And as an ex volleyball player (I was mostly in the front as a "spiker" for my girls v-ball team in high school) I really respect with what you do and wish that I had a teammate like you growing up, maybe then I wouldn't have run away from the sport and quit playing it.
Quick note, the reason Hinata has orange hair is to show us he's a very energetic and upbeat character. Gotta love shows telling the viewer stuff about a character via color symbolism!
when I saw "Volleyball coach reacts. . . ." didn't need to finish reading it. I already knew it's a Haikyuu reaction video. Great reaction video for a first timer. Keep up the good work coach!
first of all, when I watch this reaction, I love the movement of his eyes 🤣 it shows he truly pay attention to everything on the screen ❤️🤍❤️ pls do more! I love your reaction, Coach
17:04 Yes and no. The MC's name is Hinata Shoyo (or Shoyo Hinata if written in the western way) Hinata is his last name, while Shoyo is his first name. In Japan, people refer to others by their last name when they aren't close to each other, meeting for the first time, or simply out of respect and formalities, which is why the first years called him "Upperclassman Hinata" because he is an upperclassman to them and hence, the respect. The other 2 guys who are in the same year as Hinata, however, are close to him and hence call him by his first name, Shoyo or Sho (shortened version of his name). Calling people by their first name is considered to be a more intimate thing and a sign of close friendship, along with dropping honorifics (senpai, sama, san, kun, chan, etc.), but can also be seen as disrespect when that's how you call people from the get-go, especially towards seniors and elders. TL;DR Japanese people are all referred to by at least 2 names, depending on the relationship between who they are talking to and how formal they wish to be.
I fuuuuuhhhcking screamed when I saw you were reacting to this, my dark past became a lot better when I first watched Haikyu and immediately started practicing volleyball with my friend who was good at it and ended up watching your channel to improve my technique, I cannot express the happiness I feel when I saw you were finally watching it, coach I sincerely hope you enjoy it and it brings you as much joy as it did to me! hey Coach - love to see pro's reacting to this... you had some questions about it, so hear a little help: the main chars name is Hinata Shoyo. Sho is a Nickname for him. the lines of the black jackets spells "Karasuno Volleyball Club" and in this... Karasuno is the name of the School. The volleyball cracks of this School also have a Nickname - Crows. So often when Hinata Jumps you see that black feathers. hinata is a very raw volleyball talent, outstanding athlete and jumper but lacking in all other spots in this sport.... in Japan its typical for the schoolsports that they have there statechampionships (prefecture champs) and the best teams are goin to the national championship games in tokyo. karasuno is a little school in this series so its all going about friendship, teamwork and developing eacht strenghts into this team...
Also, the Japanese word for the school Karasuno means Crow so it's a play on words like Nekoma High school meaning Cats (Neko). But yes, that's their nickname because it's in the school name.

I mean from what I understand is that baseball is the most popular in Japan
It's like Daichi said in the second episode when Kiyoko gave him the sign up sheet, "Man, didn't we use to get more of these?"
The author did play volleyball during their school days, hence the accuracy
No wonder! The moves feel so realistic. My favourite is when they bounce the ball before serving, it looks so realistic when it bounces!
@iiKhezzeahii I've actually seen pictures and damnn, it looks sad and lonely without people in it

the manga really hits different
I love how accurate this show is from an athlete's perspective. Hinata's playstyle is exactly how I play. I'm short (5'5") but I'm the fastest on the team and I rely on my hops and reflexes in order to compete against my friends who are 6 feet tall. I honestly wonder if the writer was a player with that exact same skill set because of how good he captures Hinata's epic moments

Same bro
ye same here
I played volleyball before I found out about haikyuu and yea its so satisfying when ur jump increases it just feels so good
I also like setter's position.
Good to learn all positions so you can play doubles, getting four friends together to play is easier than getting 12 lol

Same it really does I’m proud that the anime got this far it was the best thing that happened to me

TL;DR Japanese people are all referred to by at least 2 names, depending on the relationship between who they are talking to and how formal they wish to be.

hey Coach - love to see pro's reacting to this... you had some questions about it, so hear a little help:
the main chars name is Hinata Shoyo.
But yes, that's their nickname because it's in the school name.
came back here to rewatch because I'm bored HAHA but look! 1M views?? Congrats Coah!
