In the 90s at my work, we used to chat with Kitty Carlisle often, my boss could really get her to talk. I find it difficult to believe she wouldn't have known Anderson through Gloria Vanderbilt already who definitely would have been in her same social circles at the time.
There's a difference between knowing the name of Gloria's son and recognizing him in a circus outfit trying to lie about his identity. She might have met him as a baby let's say, but it's likely the kids at that age were usually separate from the adults.

as i watch all these old shows, i’m constantly aware of how things have really changed. i don’t think that THESE bears were treated badly, but others were. and yeah, they were free, but they had to wear muzzles. even that little baby bear and she had to walk on her hind legs - i think she was too young for that. adults do it in the wild, but i’ve never seen a cub do that. 🐻🐻❄️

When I was a NYC kid in the 50's and early 60's, a family member took me to Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey several different years at Madison Square Garden - always just one parent or grandparent. Minimal adult participation. The one thing that I did find shocking and disturbing even as an 8 year old was they still had the "Side Show" to walk through before you got seated in the main arena. And yeah, it was a collection of unfortunates identified as "freaks" just standing around like zoo animals. Very disturbing even to my 8 year old self that humans would be put on display like this.

It was super obvious to me that it was 1. He was the only one who actually knew the logistics and safety protocols of a circus! I think all the celebrities knew too but wanted to act dumb so the kids could at least get some money.
Circuses make me sick- everything but the animals, which deserve to be treated with respect and in their natural environment. There is some progress with doing away with circuses, but not enough.
And in the same studio. Those celebrity panel CBS game shows were taped on weekdays in the Ed Sullivan Theater where Letterman did his CBS show. My dad worked around the corner and I was often in attendance watching the tapings. The shows that go back to the early 50s like "What's My Line" were exceptions in the early years as I believe they were broadcast live.

It's weird that all these future celebs in the entertainment industry first got their big breaks from these old game shows. All of which now makes me feel that none of this was just a coincidence; that the producers really intended to cherry pick "contestants" to bring on to the show who originally signed up for work in the entertainment business.

It was super obvious to me that it was 1. He was the only one who actually knew the logistics and safety protocols of a circus!
I think all the celebrities knew too but wanted to act dumb so the kids could at least get some money.

Circuses make me sick- everything but the animals, which deserve to be treated with respect and in their natural environment. There is some progress with doing away with circuses, but not enough.

And in the same studio. Those celebrity panel CBS game shows were taped on weekdays in the Ed Sullivan Theater where Letterman did his CBS show. My dad worked around the corner and I was often in attendance watching the tapings. The shows that go back to the early 50s like "What's My Line" were exceptions in the early years as I believe they were broadcast live.
Nipsey Russell has more hair than when he appeared in the series "Car 54 Where Are You" several years before this. In that show, his hairline was far more receded. I wonder if he wore wiglets like Bing Crosby?

I sort of thought it was number 1 also. Yes, I knew it couldn't be Anderson, but number three sort of had "that look" too. But number one seemed to have the confidence and presence of someone who would be comfortable performing in front of people.

It's weird that all these future celebs in the entertainment industry first got their big breaks from these old game shows. All of which now makes me feel that none of this was just a coincidence; that the producers really intended to cherry pick "contestants" to bring on to the show who originally signed up for work in the entertainment business.
If you're wearing headphones, turn up the volume, you can hear the director.
