    I've been using the paper towel an oil trick ever since I saw this video. I don't even use my chimney anymore. I just light the paper towel, get everything ready, and it's good to go. Thanks for the tip.

    I've used the Weber Smokey Joe, for a number of years.
    I live in FL, so I use it two or three times a week, and I love it.
    I also have a $3,000, stainless steel, 63,000 btu, propane grill that I hardly EVER use. It's a male thing, you know.
    I've found that you can cook for up to 6 people on this little grill, with out any problems.
    I bought a small stainless steel commercial table from a local restaurant supply house, and cut the legs of the table down. Then, I installed wheels on it so that it was easy to move. Since I had cut the legs down, when I put the grill on it, the top of the grill is at a comfortable working level, and, as a bonus, there is enough room next to the grill to place the lid as well as a platter of food.
    The use of a starter chimney is helpful, as I use lump charcoal as opposed to briquettes. It's something about the unprocessed charcoal that appeals to me. You don't need to use a lot of charcoal because the bowl is small, but VERY efficient.
    The only down side is that the grill has to be replaced every three years or so because the legs that support the bowl, rust and break at the bowl. If they sold replacement legs, the lid and bowl would last forever!
    If you want that good charcoal flavor, I highly recommend this grill. You can't go wrong.

      I find that the small chunks of lump fall through the coal grate and block the bottom vents. That's why I only use briquettes in my smokey joe.

    Great grill, and excellent cooking there! I just bought myself that Weber Smokey Joe, and it's Awesome! I use mine at least twice a week, and grill up all kinds of things, even whole potatoes and onions cut in half. The onions make a wonderful smell. I like the spray vinegar idea to keep the food moist, I'll try that. I'll get me some of that soul food seasoning too . I think this is the best grill for cooking for 1 to 5 people.

    Just a word of warning. If you are using a thicker BBQ sauce (not thin like the video shows), there is a good chance you will burn the sauce exposing it to direct heat that long

    Good point Ron, I like having them both so I can choose what I need, but if I had to pick one I would choose the 22.5" most of the time. You can do more with it and certainly it has more cooking area, but the smokey Joe has its value in being transportable or if you have limited space to grill such as if you were living in a small apartment or camping or what have you. I'm glad to say I have both.

  • @Cohort227
    @Cohort227  12 лет назад

    Well I am glad you got off to a good start other that the pork chopes getting a little over done. It is kind of hard to tell how to get your fire exactly right to start with, but you will get it in time, just watch how much coal youn use and hopefully not mess up too many more chops. Also if you can always try to leave a 'cool spot' on the grill, you know a place where you have no coals so you can pull them off the fire. Anyway, sounds like your enjoying it and that is great!!

    Unless you have another grill, then I would get the bigger 22.5" model if I were you. If you plan on using the Smokey Joe as your main grill, you'll end up regretting it as it won't be big enough for you to try new recipes. You won't be able to smoke ribs, cook indirectly, etc with a grill this size.

  • @Vype100
    @Vype100 11 лет назад

    yes the big one. But i will buy it together with my father because his garden is bigger than mine. So we share the money. :-) By us it will cost about 800 US Dollar. I would also like to buy the smokey joe, because you can take it with you anywhere and it looks good. ;-)

    Wonderful, I'm completely new to BBQ but won myself a Weber 57cm Compact. So now I'm looking how people use their BBQ. Your pork chops gets my mouth watering, I hope I make them this nice in the future. At my first attempt the meat was black in no time, I think the heat was way to high but I have difficulty controlling the right heat. What temp with which meat? Luckily it wasn't a complete disaster, the salmon was done to perfection (indirect method) and melted in the mouth.
