Here Be Barr i've done it twice already, my first climb at 5am we had clear skies, beautiful view of stars and of the surronding 4 islands! 2nd climb at 4pm we caught a storm, was a huge fight just to keep my tent on the ground, and started our descent as soon as the sun made its fade appearence.. did you went to 'Gruta das Torres' (cave system)? What about the lagoons? (Where are fresh drinking water comes from)
Here Be Barr: You've got to be kidding. A three legged billy goat could easily reach the summit on Pico in a couple of hours with one leg tied behind its ass. I lived on Terceira Island, 72-74 while stationed at Lajes Field. When I wasn't exploring caldera's, volcano vents, caves & lava tubes, we'd sail to other islands to go diving. Pico & Faial were my favorites. Hiked to the crater atop Pico several times. Great view when it wasn't socked in & there was usually snow at the top. Back then there were NO guides. Just head to the top. There was no real "climbing" to it, just a good hike. Geezz... tend to get dramatic much do ya?
I’ve climbed this mountain several times. If you are in decent shape it’s totally doable and totally worth it! The view never gets old. No guide is needed, be deliberate where you step, bring a .litre of water, a snack, and at minimum, athletic shoes. That final peak with in the crater has steam coming from vents and cracks between the rocks which is an eerie reminder that it’s active on a geological scale.
Whow, that was a magical hike. That company seems very professional and they know how to treat you after such an experience. Just for that massage I would climb mount Pico!
Thank you for posting this. Don't let the billy goats rain on your parade -- it is an accomplishment for anyone not accustomed to doing it. People have died on that mountain, regardless. I climbed in 2013. It was 7hrs up and 4hrs down. I was the 2nd oldest person in the group (at 47). The oldest was the actual tour guide, Noel -- he was 64 and grew up in the French Alps, lived on Pico and climbed the mountain 5 or 6 times every week for 20 years..... I remember climbing the Pico Pequenho in the crater and feeling a steam vent on my leg. This volcano is not extinct, not by long shot!
Thank you for the kind comment. Yeah I don't care, for me it was an accomplishment ! And yes, you could feel the steam, I just didn't include it in the vlog due to time constraints.
Azores its a little piece of hevan. How lucky are the people that born there, like me 😊😉😉 you should go to terceira, you can see the inside volcano 😉😉✌✌
I did this hike back in 1986 when I was 16 and despite having rubber legs the following day, it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Although I would not attempt it now, that experience of watching the sun come up from above the clouds was surreal and so worth it. My motherland... I miss it! Greetings from Toronto, Canada.
We decided to climb mount Pico after watching your vlog. Nuno is a really nice guide. He told us that we are the first Chinese people hiking to the top (as far as he knows...).
My congratulations for having climbed Pico. I was 3 times in Pico but the weather didn't allow me to. 1st time too foggy, 2nd time too rainy, 3rd time it was covered with snow. However Pico's my favourite island in the Azores, but I still have to go to Flores and Corvo, the most western ones. One day I'll do it. Greetings from Lisbon.
Dude, there is a small souvenir shop less than half-way to the top that sells t-shirts labeled 'I climbed Pico'. 20 Euros. I have one. Bought it, turned around and went back. Was not that bad. :). In fairness it was raining like there is not tomorrow and I was wearing sandals. And I bought that t-shirt because I was all wet.
I live here in São Miguel and lately I've been caught up in your videos... I have never climbed Pico, I will eventually, you just made me want it even more. It's so cool to see our islands from your perspective, you go my dude! :)
Guys, you were way more prepared than us. We are a family of 4 (2 kids aged 6 and 9) and we went without a guide. We played games and sang all the way to forget about tiredness and we made it. Took us 9 hours the whole climb (up and down) and it was amazing. The last climb to Piquinho was made by me and my son and it was an amazing feeling. The bonding, feeling so proud... really intense. We made a video about our trip to Pico. It is here on youtube so check it out if you want. I also have to upload our raw footage of the last summit. It is long, but I really love to see it every time I can.
My smile got bigger with every second watching this video. Great job bringing the experience to life; it was like I was there again. You're so right, Monica's surprises are the best! Thank you for making this vid... #teamadriana missed out! ;p
No doubt I would do that hike if my legs hold up! Btw that was some magical/spiritual stuff up there at the top. I am sure you'll never forget it. Great video!
So glad you lived! :) Wow, that was some grueling adventure! I admire your perseverance. Loved the #TEAMADRIANA interlude! Tee hee! Some beautiful views from the top - and even from halfway! "And this Barr needs a bar..." yeah, I'll bet! And you look so happy at the end! Great job!
There is a group based in Faial called Azores Trail Run. They do Ultra Marathons. They include an ascent of Pico from the Vineyards to the crater rim (not from the Casa da Montanha, but from sealevel) called the Vertical Kilometre. And they RUN that......
I grew up in S.E. New England and we loved to go camping and hiking in the White Mountains...we thought that the mighty Mt. Washington was a hell of a clime...but let's compare...to hike Mt Washington it's base entrance is already at an elevation of 4,280 ft...you only have to hike 2,008 ft to reach the summit of 6,280. While on the other hand Pico's base camp is only a few hundred ft above sea level...and the summit is 1,433 ft above that of Mt. Washington...chew on that for a while
Great video and I'm glad you were able to complete this hike! Looks like we'll have to do a hiking swap now where I hike in the Azores and you hike in Georgia lol.
On your next stay in Pico (I don’t know if you knew), there’s a wonderful collection of homes for rent in Sao Roque made of the volcanic rock so prevalent on the island. In March, when I was just there, they rented for under $40 a night. Aldeia Das Adegas, São Roque do Pico, Portugal Worth the stay!! As well as a visit to the modest Restaurante Montanha just down the road for their fantastic octopus salad.
I survived lol...my great grandmother went there 13 times last time she was 80 years old...i used to go to the top just for fun...are u guys ok in the head???????
Congratulations on completing the climb. It looks like quite an adventure. I think this old man would have opted to skip the climb like Adrianna did. Mark M.
I went on holiday to the azores and every day was sunny and clear apart from the day we climbed pico, it was very misty so we didn't get a view from the top, and it was so misty that we thought we were at the summit but we were at the other side of the crater
Don't know if you're planning to stop at Graciosa Island (2nd smallest in the Azores), but it is famous for scuba diving and underwater photography (experts say it's the best spot in the Azores for that).Just thought I'd let you know (being a native Azorean).
All of your videos are amazing. Very well filmed, and I can tell you guys are really having fun and enjoying it. The last time I went to the Azores, I looked out the plane's window, and I looked down, and the only thing I could see was Pico's mountain sticking up, out of the clouds. In the winter, Pico's peak, is covered in snow, which looks nice. Keep up the good work! You guys are doing a fantastic job!
yes it is did you got to visit other islands? I loved to climb it and it was a big accomplishment to me because I have arthritis at 17 years old, sometimes I can't do the same things like other people at my age because of it.
Oh my god ! It seems amazing, I can’t wait for mine any longer but that are the surprises? 😁 Will there be any stops for pictures? I am afraid I might slow people down for stopping for pictures 😐
Hi Phil, we did it with our kids and even though it is hard, it is doable. And don't worry about slowing down people. Only a certain amount is allowed to be in the mountain at the same time so never too crowded. Let us know if you do it. Cheers
It’s not that bad :D nature conservation students from Hildesheim Germany go each year (I went last summer) and we “climb” it. I am super unfit (never move) but it’s fine 😅
Here Be Barr the worst part for me is the heat 😅 and the humidity. We went wale watching (with our biology professor) and our clothes did not dry the 5 days we were there 🤦🏼♀️
hi bro im from portugal and you inspired me to do the same thing i have no prof but i have done it btw the clouds are freezing also going down looks very scary but is so much easier also the volcano i didn't clime my big bro my mum and dad did it but me and my sister had a nap
Yeah...Simple things I don't understand in those islands. The terrible difficulty, that we have sometimes in buying local products. But if the restaurants or coffee shops don't have, I don't buy :-)

Hahahah, I like that .. Do it for the massage.. I was doing it for the beer at the end more than the massage. But that helped !
Hands down one of your coolest videos dude
I agree !! Thanks my friend.

You're welcome !
Azores its a little piece of hevan. How lucky are the people that born there, like me 😊😉😉 you should go to terceira, you can see the inside volcano 😉😉✌✌
We covered it on our last Terceira vlog !
soraia sousa gorgeous is Terceira and the people from there!

I was born on this island. My family emigrated when I was little. This video makes me want to go visit so badly!!!
I know how that feels😭
Dude, there is a small souvenir shop less than half-way to the top that sells t-shirts labeled 'I climbed Pico'. 20 Euros. I have one. Bought it, turned around and went back. Was not that bad. :). Best of our trip was to be so sore the next morning and having the kids jumping and running around asking to go again :)
My smile got bigger with every second watching this video. Great job bringing the experience to life; it was like I was there again. You're so right, Monica's surprises are the best! Thank you for making this vid... #teamadriana missed out! ;p
The view is awesome with the mist
Was so amazing !

I was really looking forward to that beer... It kept me going the last few hours haahha.
Great video! My hiking days are over, but sure enjoyed your trek. Beautiful views at the top!
There is a group based in Faial called Azores Trail Run. They do Ultra Marathons. They include an ascent of Pico from the Vineyards to the crater rim (not from the Casa da Montanha, but from sealevel) called the Vertical Kilometre. And they RUN that......
Impeccable images. Keep up the good work.
Best regards.
Congrats, great job! I`ve been living here 18 years and have yet to attempt the climb.
If I can, you can
loved the hike man, great edit, and the music is really fitting for the mood! I need to come!
Yeah man the Azores are calling your channel :)
Great video love pico I love the azores Islands..
Thanks !
i was on the top last year but had no massage;( anyway: açores are simply paradise in the middle of the ocean.... my favorite is flores and corvo...

Deal 👌🏻

Congratulations on completing the climb. It looks like quite an adventure. I think this old man would have opted to skip the climb like Adrianna did. Mark M.
You and many others 😂😂
Pico is a volcano that is sleeping for 300 years now and its the third biggest volcano in the Atlantic Ocean and the highest point of Portugal.
Love the views. Now it’s Adriana’s turn
Agreed !
My mother was born on this island! Visited Pico island when I was 14 I'm 43 now never got the chance to take the hike though..
I went on holiday to the azores and every day was sunny and clear apart from the day we climbed pico, it was very misty so we didn't get a view from the top, and it was so misty that we thought we were at the summit but we were at the other side of the crater

Azores are beautiful great videos
E mesmo se falas portugues
I live in the neighboring island called Faial, I have never climbed it and I hope I do someday.
You need to !
Thank you buddy you're the best 👍
I'm from Azores I climbed it two months ago my first time it was amazing
Btw I know Monica she is a really good at her job.
It's so cool.
yes it is did you got to visit other islands? I loved to climb it and it was a big accomplishment to me because I have arthritis at 17 years old, sometimes I can't do the same things like other people at my age because of it.

Can definitely stop when you take water breaks
Hi Phil, we did it with our kids and even though it is hard, it is doable. And don't worry about slowing down people. Only a certain amount is allowed to be in the mountain at the same time so never too crowded. Let us know if you do it. Cheers
What month did you do this? I'm thinking of doing it some time between nov and jan. not sure if those months are okay.
Congratulations, y bien hecho. I use to do a fair amount of hiking, I still do some but not 8000ft climbs.
I have been there a week ago but the weather was too bad. Couldn’t see anything.
That stinks
I'm proud of you man! ;)
Much Appreciated Gui !
Love the video. And the music! Watched São Jorge video then this.
What altitude did the hike start at? I know roads go part way up.
The mountain is 2351m and we start at 1230m
Wowwww,super awesome.😘🤗😊
That was a lot of hiking, made me tired just watching you do it, I think I’ll pass on that one!
Jajjaja come on
It’s not that bad :D nature conservation students from Hildesheim Germany go each year (I went last summer) and we “climb” it. I am super unfit (never move) but it’s fine 😅
It was more of a marathon than one super hard part i'd say.. but yeah it's totally doable
Here Be Barr the worst part for me is the heat 😅 and the humidity. We went wale watching (with our biology professor) and our clothes did not dry the 5 days we were there 🤦🏼♀️
Beautiful
hi bro im from portugal and you inspired me to do the same thing i have no prof but i have done it btw the clouds are freezing also going down looks very scary but is so much easier also the volcano i didn't clime my big bro my mum and dad did it but me and my sister had a nap
Do it !
Here Be Barr I have and I think that going down after the volcano was a bit easier?? Whould you agree
I thought going down was way harder on my knees, but less dangerous in a sense.
You should have climbed at night and staid there for the night so you can see all the islands from the top in the morning
I agree.
Good job!
Thanks !
cool man!! we climb with Tripix....a local business. small but professional climbers
have you ever went to Sao Miguel island?? I'm from there and its the most beautiful island from my pooint of view ahaha it has alot of green places
Yep, I loved it
glad to hear that
Wow!
I climbed Pico in1977 i was 12 Year’s old , now maybe. My birth place, i go back every year never get enough of the island.
Do it again :)
Woah!! Was that harder than Barranco de huentitan?
Considering it took 8 hours + yes.. Barranco was just really grueling for about 30-45 minutes.. I never ran out of breath like that in Pico.
AZORES TE AMO BELAS ILHAS
Super Bock?? You should had drink a Especial from Melo Abreu! In Açores, taste always and only local products!
That was the only option 😂
Yeah...Simple things I don't understand in those islands. The terrible difficulty, that we have sometimes in buying local products. But if the restaurants or coffee shops don't have, I don't buy :-)
I was in Pico, Terceira, and Faial in March and only found Super Bock. As well as an abundance of delicious wine and moonshine.
It's hard to find, but it's possible. However, in São Miguel it's much easier. I think that's a shame...
Monte Pico, der Tempel des Lichtes.
all i want to know is who filmed you while you got a massage!
Hahaha 😉
You didn't do the whale watching here in the Azores?
No.. not something i'm super interested in, to be honest.. But maybe next time.
That looks epic. I climbed Mt St Helens a couple of years ago, and this looks just as hard. Congrats!
WOW!
Of course a Super Bock in Portugal!
lol you are acting like you climbed mount everest, anyway beautiful place, i've been to sao miguel this year
Haha for me it was ;)
Here Be Barr well everyone has to begin somewhere :)

Eu sou do Pico e sim gostaria imenso de subir a montanha do Pico

Where can I get a guide like yours?
Link in description.
Here Be Barr tank you
Just talk to us ;)
This mountain just looks unrealistically steep for some reason. The next eruption could be its end because it’s so unstable.
Pico❤️❤️
👌🏻

For the people that were born there like the coment. I was😄
You guys might think That this a joke but no it is not I’m at ten and I climb all of pico no joke
I'm sorry but this challenge isn't very hard compared to many other people (firemen, policemen, and more) challenges, and the music is too much. Although great vlog!
the guide lady is cute
She was one of the coolest women i've ever met !!
Also adding on to my other comment, ITS PICO NOT PECO! Sorry...
We did the same climb in May. It's a brutal climb, for a vid see: ruclips.net/video/tyNRxCUeLG8/видео.html
